New 15" Retina MBP vs Audio

I'm a musician, my 2007-2008 17" MBP is still a workhorse studio for my apartment set up, it is awesome still but lacks the speed now to master / render. This new 15" MBP is really beefy! For those concerned with audio, just get the Apogee DUET with the firewire converters and you're all set for the pro mobile studio.

Happy times! Can't wait to play with this new beast!

It's soldered in. Period. It's not a stand-alone SATA pluggable SSD. Check the Keynote Videos.

From the assembly video I beg to differ. This is a PRO machine ... if the MBA can be upgraded (regardless of Apple saying you cannot: most likely warranty voided), you better believe the Pro Retina can ... just not on the market yet. See my last post; previous to this.

^ 13" MBP, although beautiful in its own right is on its last iteration as I predicted. 13" MBP has better battery life, lighter, faster boot (SSD native), cheaper at 256GB storage and in higher resolution. I own a Pro, and I used to own 13" MBA ... which I'm re-evaluating to own yet again.

13" is my sweet spot. I currently have a 15" and I think it's a bit bulky at times. Gimme a 13" retina macbook pro (or retina Air)!

What if I need to record what I'm playing?!

I'm always plugging in an 1/8" cable in the audio out and back in the audio in to record.

Also, I don't care about the price of adapters. I care about the quantity of adapters I have to haul around with me everywhere I go with my mac. It's getting ridiculous now with, DVI adapters, VGA adapters. Now I need ethernet and Firewire adapters?!? Well **** me.

Forgive me if someone already responded to you. Apple now offers a range of thunderbolt adapters for ethernet and firewire. I believe the audio input is also an audio output.

Also (not directed at you, but others): If you complain about the price of adapters, perhaps you're not the type of "professional" that needs this machine.

ayfkm??!

Grrr what the hell is it with the glossy screens? I want MATTE, ANTI-GLARE, NON-GLOSSY. What's the point of having extra crisp typography when all you can see is the floor lamp behind you?

Oh holy ****ing ****.

This TOO?!?!?!

There's NO option of antiglare? Jesus. I'm so happy with my current mbp (15-inch, early 2011)

And how many business meetings or lectures do you go to where the presenter hooks into a TV set?

EVERY DAY ... in 3 boardrooms.
CEO's, Main room, and auxiliary ... ALL have 720P LCD's with a VGA+Sound port, along with HDMI connections. These rooms have been upgrade from Polycom to Cisco Video Conferencing just recently.

There is another 2 rooms where we have 1080P LCD's with HDMI/VGA connections - the majority of our laptops (75%) have VGA & HDMI connections. Soon we're going to upgrade with ATV2's for 720P/1080P conniptions as our iPhone 4S roll-out has begun. A LOT of executives have been waiting if not already using display connections to TV sets as we can share the content to other sites (internal/external over VC or local presentations).

That Engadget video was as good a quick presentation as I've seen lately. Non-stop facts, delivered at a rapid clip so no filler, clear diction and the video matched what was being talked about. More vids should be like that.

Can someone please explain the HDMI out? To me it makes almost no sense.

Edit: Because there are crap tons of morons on this site, why would Apple introduce HDMI on this macbook? Obviously it connects to TV's, I know 3 year olds who could have come up with a more clever response. Why HDMI and not Firewire or Mini DVI, is using an adapter too complicated now?

Second Edit: Your Retina Macbook Pro will have MORE pixels than your HD Tv, by a long shot, so why would I want less pixels and a (Much) larger screen? Convenience of hook up is not a reason either, by now you probably own a slew of adapters and cable options to connect your Mac to a HDTV.

Because HDMI is everywhere. And I forget adapter at home.

So instead of having a thunderbolt that can be used for three different things, the 1" thick MBP just has those three different things so you don't need adaptor. I do wish the 1" thick MBP had HDMI--would've saved me having to get an adaptor for my external monitor.

Bart

I meant audio-in. My bad.

There's no audio-in. Ridiculous.

I really don't get why they're making the Macbook Pro like a Macbook Air.
The Pro version still exists, boys. Right there waiting for you to buy it. Optical audio, optical drive, more upgrade and plug-in options. Looks very similar, most probably won't even notice which you have.

This one is sorta like the Air because that is the intent. Rumors have been flying for years about a 15" Air. This isn't quite as thin as the 11/13", and it's kept a few Pro features. And the most important one, the cpu and gpu. But make no mistake, this is the 15" Air people have been asking for.

What's a MagSafe 2 connector?

For the love of ****** god somebody answear these damm question !.?
Really? Stated in the presentation: New, thinner magsafe connector. "2" seems like a viable designation....

Don't forget to use the education pricing. I don't know how they check whether or not you're telling the truth but I'm staff (Also, obviously, applies to students). Saved $380 and received an additional $100 as a gift card. :apple:

I'll agree with you on that ... but I think I've gotta decide between:
13" MBA Ultimate [8GB RAM + 512GB SSD] $2129+13%Tax CAN
-or-
15.4" MBP Retina [16GB RAM] $2429+13%Tax CAN
-or-
15.4" MBP Retina [16GB RAM + 768GB SSD] $3579+13%Tax CAN (OUCH!)
( this last option may have to wait until February bonus time, by then we may see new architecture with more max RAM 24/32GB & 1TB SSD/Flash storage).

Decisions.
PS: I'm no pro ... just a mac user with need for running Windows 7 Enterprise (maybe 8), learning Xcode and getting fully into Logic Express then Logic Pro.

PSS: Why no mention of Logic Pro/Express being upgraded to support the new Retina Display?
I'm also curious about Traktor, Ableton, and Reason supporting this new resolution; a few friends would cream if this was available for their preferred DJ setup.

Are you for real?
How do you think its possible to import audio on the 13" MBP? Audio IS in with the combined port.
It's not the same. The 13 MBP has an actual combined analog/digital in/out. The new thin 15 has an iPhone earphone/mic port. But if you are doing some pro work, wouldn't you have some USB input, anyway? I don't really know.

aahhhh
