It could still be a design that previously leaked, but i hope it is the second photo.
I still don' t think apple will make holes in a display for sensor, camera, speaker, etc. Tech just is not there yet. I think it will have very small chins.

Ehhh I wouldn't say so. There's way more evidence and leaks that support this vertical camera iPhone design.

There were definitely a lot of people believing that tear drop iPhone including myself, but there wasn't much evidence for it.

Well, I gotta be honest, and the biggest thing that separates 2011 from 2017 is that in 2017 we're more likely to see a new design of some sort.

But generally, what evidence do we really have this year compared to 2011? It's mostly just potential schematics. Who knows how real or fake any of them are.

Maybe the camera is the fingerprint reader. Every phone comes with a little chamois cloth to clean the lens afterward. :p

Huge difference with 2017..... We have PHYSICAL leaks of the phone. There were physical leaks of pretty much every iPhone before it was officially released. None of that tear drop phone.

It's practically May. WWDC isn't far away and September isn't far after that. There's no way Apple is "still testing prototypes". And if they are, it's for next year's phone or beyond. The phones are being made as we speak.

I would like to think that Apple has finally done a good job with keeping the design under wraps until announcement day, but I doubt it.

Physical leaks of the phone? Really? The only thing we've seen are dummy units based on the supposed schematics. Unless I've missed a leak/report of some sort?

I don't disagree that a new phone with new design is coming, and that they've settled on a design. My point was just that case makers are likely using leaked supposed schematics to start making cases, which they seem to do before anything is really confirmed.

My bet is they're going with the look of the first photo because it was mentioned that they're supposedly going with the flat metal band design just like the iPhone 4. In essence, they're kind of going old school with this which I think is probably a good idea. They need to go back to flat because too many competitors are using the rounded edge hardware design and that it's far easier to pick up with flat edges.

I think Samsung had a very good idea of what Apple has up their sleeve and the S8 was probably a preview of what is supposedly coming around the corner.

I'm pretty sure it will be called the iPhone 8 for the 10th anniversary. Wouldn't make sense to call it a 7s, so something tells me they're skipping over the 's' phase. I doubt I will buy it because of the apparent high price tag and I need the 3.5 headphone jack for practical reasons, sticking with the 64 GB iphone SE for a while.

Because us left handers can't reach the power button currently....
[doublepost=1493379833][/doublepost]

The buttons actual name is the sleep/wake button. Makes perfect sense to me.

Sleep/wake button it may be called, but I and other people I know tend to use it only for locking (Which is where the confusion of unlocking with a "lock" button, may come in to play with some). My mom (not tech savvy) doesn't even remember half the time the button is there. But those are user habits that can change. Putting Touch ID on the lock button automatically creates a three step process: Pick up your phone, Authenticate with your finger, then press the home button to enter your homescreen. If they're to add Touch ID to the lock button, iOS and lock screen dynamics would have to change yet again to cut that process down, to what we've all come accustomed to: Picking up our phone, and pressing the home button.

When the leaks of the iphone 7 showed up last year, it turned out to be accurately close to what they revealed on Keynote. They have about 3-4 months to produce the devices otherwise, the apparent rumors of a delay leads me to believe they're trying to find ways to buy more time to implement the Touch ID under glass. And if that was the case, something tells me somebody has been slacking over there behind schedule.

If they don't unveil the new phone by September on time, they have a lot of explaining to do because they have to get moving to bring the new iMacs out by the end of the year like they said they would via their ' apology PR interview ' ( remember that one? ). They can't cram the iPhone and iMacs this close by the end of the year.

But I think you're right because they have to start manufacturing the devices soon before Fall or end of summer comes around. After all, they have to create some marketing and advertising in advance to support it. All this cannot be done at the last minute.

I agree with that. They probably are using schematics of what they "think" it'll look like. And yeah the physical leak in referring to are those one or two dummy phones.

I obviously have no concrete proof, but just going off of past releases, I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of the new phones looks like this.

Also, we've seen schematics in the past that did come to fruition. The tear drop was just one that didn't.

That's the thing... I don't think they're still trying to figure out how to put Touch ID under the display. I think it's already figured out. Or maybe that feature was never meant for this year.

And yeah they probably have the marketing and ads figured out or they will soon.

I do hope they make good on that iMac promise. Mine is from August 2010 and I'm looking to upgrade it.

Perhaps the longer power button is to accommodate for a touchid integrated button. Makes logical sense as it's a button many hit often.
The problem with that are the stupid volume buttons on the opposite side. Everyone I know hates those buttons because they always accidentally press both sleep/wake and volume button at the same time. So I think any kind of Touch ID interface would be awful if it's located on the opposite side of any physical volume buttons.

And it's now 4.7" in screen size as opposed to the 5.8" or 5.5" or 5.2" screen sizes you've stated in previous stories...

That immediately caught my eye too. It must be a misprint. MacRumors has been saying 5.8" for the OLED phone for months, and the round up still lists it as 5.8"

https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-8/

A 4.7" "edge-to-edge" screen doesn't make sense. The phone would be the size of an iPhone SE if that were the case. Actually, as an aside, that's what I want since I prefer the smaller sized phone. But it will be a few years before we see something like that from Apple (if we ever do).

Why take this as an indication of the final design? Every iPhone leak with different designs we all say "oh Apple is testing different prototypes to cover all eventualities". Well perhaps the case makers make prototypes of every leaked design so when the final iPhone design is announced their factories are ready to start full-scale production.

Exactly!!! I keep telling everyone wait for part leaks that's when we will know the design for sure. Usually in May or June is when parts start leaking if memory serves me correct.

TouchID will be under glass. Period.
No backside implementation (too Samsung-y). No power button implementation (too thin + lefties be damned). No other bizarre-o implementation. Under glass. Ives has even stated his desire for a clean slate of glass as his ideal. And it's coming.

And they're doing the right thing to keep it under glass - even at the risk of delay. It will definitely be ready at launch. Just super duper limited supply. Will be 6-mo before it will be readily available. And we'll wait. Bitching and moaning, no doubt. But we'll wait. As it will be worth it.

I just almost threw up thinking about the mind numbing 6mos of "My 256 OLED Space Gloss has been on a plane over China for 2 weeks. Tim has GOT to go!!" threads. Ick.

Anyway, I still find it odd that there would be a badass OLED version and then an almost as badass LCD version. I mean I can see how they'll justify via marketing positioning. But still... Kinda miss the days when Apple just made one badass version and the world was left to cope. #simplertimes #getoffmylawn

In closing... C'mon flush backside camera! I'd SO take a 2mm "less thin" device for the joy that is a flush camera. #hatecamerabump

Ok, now this is really starting to feel like 2011 with the supposed iPhone 5 tear drop design (that never came to be) and cases leaking out

Okay, so, explain to me how any of those designs look like this:
