Can't see that Apple is going to supply accurate schematics to a two bit plastic case manufacturer who could probably knock out tens of thousands of them with a weeks notice if necessary.

You are right. But pretty much all mass market cases (not to mention parts) are made in... China. So Apple not sharing design with a "two bit" manufacturer doesn't mean that company can't easily aquire it. In the past these "two bit" makers have been the first to market, way ahead of "Made For iPhone" partners.

That is not to say this case is accurate, just that your assumption that Apple is the only source China companies take to get accurate info on upcoming designs is wrong. If there is one country in the world where there is zero respect for IP it's China, esp. when it's a Chinese company doing the infringing with a "wink, wink" from a gov't official. To companies who manufacture in China this is offset by the rock cheap labor. Stolen IP is a cost of doing business for them.

Remember we're still 6 months out from a launch. Most likely Apple hasn't finalized any decision Things are probably in a prototype phase
Take all these rumors with a grain of salt

*YAWN*

I remember all of the 'genuine' cases that have leaked pre-announcement that turned out to be completely wrong.

And it takes very little effort for these third-party cell phone case manufacturers to design and release a cheap plastic case. If there was anything remotely close to being unbelievable, it would be two things, A render and a plastic case for a phone that has not been released yet.

Early cases mean nothing. How many times in the past have we seen these alleged case images, only to find out they're totally wrong on launch day? Companies shouldn't even make products based on leaks and guesses, you're only setting yourself up to lose money.
Either you can find an explanation why the case manufacturers act illogically here or they must get some financial gain from trying to procure prototype cases.

The power button needs to be moved back to the top right corner edge where it belongs. I can't tell you how tired I get of the obnoxious placement of the power button on the side. I'm constantly causing the phone to "sleep" when trying to change the volume. Putting the power button opposite of the volume controls? How stupid is that?

Associating design with leaked case is ludicrous. It most probably takes at most a few hours to go from design to factory for manufacturing cases. If a case manufacturer has to start preparing now for a phone that is coming 6 months later...well

Or perhaps they thought noone is going to use the Touch ID sensor on the back anyway, so they just didn't bother with a cutout.

To be clear, rumours states that Apple has already finalised the technology to have a Touch ID under the screen, BUT they are struggling with mass production, due to some issues. The fact that other rumours say that iPhone 8 availability will be constrained or even possibly delayed, in my opinion is a demonstration that they have decided to stick with the front facing Touch ID, at the cost of some delay in mass production.
lets hope.....

The Touch ID will not be in the power button. That would preclude any case that covers the power button. Won't happen.
If the touchid can be put in a thin powerbutton, they shouldn' t have a problem with putting it in the rumored lower bezel/chin of 4 mm on the front of the iphone.

Isn't it a little too early for 3rd party cases?

All I can say is good riddance to vertical videos!
Vertical videos have to do with the grip and the screen, not the location of the sensors. People simply prefer to hold their phones vertically.

I'd much rather have the sensor on the front where it has always been, but a touchID on the side would be better than having it on the back in my opinion
Why people think the side-mounted fingerprint reader is "better" is beyond me. Just look at the girth of your thumbs, the fingers you are most likely to attempt to use for such a button. And imagine a phone (or a button) with the thickness of those thumbs. Is it realistic to expect an iPhone with that thickness? Before anyone says "But Sony!", Sony's buttons were way thicker than average power buttons, and even then they were not very reliable.

Samsung's note 8 will probably drop in august like it did last year and the tech is ready from their provider, Synaptics. The only reason it didn't make it to the S8 was timing.
What complicates the iPhones in this regard is the 3D Touch as well as the phone's maintenance/repairability. Remember that you would no longer be able to replace the TouchID-embeded display for "cheap" if it cracked.

I really don't think we can take much from these posts.. what stops anyone from making a mockup case based on a "leak" we've seen on various rumour websites in the past few weeks and saying it's the real deal?
More like mock up photo.

And why does it need to protrude? Increase the thinkness by 2mm, make camera flush and put in bigger battery.

I actually think the vertical camera makes the most sense if it's now included in the smaller phone too. I don't think it would fit in the smaller phone in the 7plus orientation.

It also closes the gap on that being the differentiator between the plus and standard sizes. This leaves room for one new feature which will be exclusive to the plus size which simplifies the marketing.

What is stupid? That, after 3 1/2 years , when the powerbutton was moved, you still make the same mistake?
Or just the placement?

These case manufacturers don't have any inside information. This story is like taking some random speculation from the forums here and posting it to the front page. Zero credibility.

I remember plenty of times when these case manufacturers got it wrong chasing some fake mock-up.
