ATT - Letting the cat out of the bag.

I talked with ATT a few days ago and they let me know that I was eligible for the new iPhone that was about to be released. It appears that in an effort to lock iPhone customers into another 2-year contract, they are revealing that a new iPhone is about to be released. Not that we don't already know this, but an Apple partner is actually telling its customers.

I feel your pain

This is exciting for me. I've been using the 3G for other 3 years now, and I'm just tired of how slow it is. I hardly use it anymore, because of all the waiting just to do anything. The maps applications is especially bad, just trying to type in a location and find it is painful. Something major changed when they released the 3GS, because the difference between it and the 3G is like night and day.

Anyway, all I'm hoping for is 64GB Capacity, 8MP Camera, and the new Dual Core A5. It feels like I've been throwing away $100/month for last few years, and I look forward to being able to use my phone again.

I'm in the same boat. Glad to know it's not just my 3G. I've been patiently awaiting the next model but Maps among other apps have been making me itch to upgrade. Typing in an address only to see the letter key get stuck for 20 seconds until I can type the next is absurd.

re ip5 renderings edge 2 edge

the so called edge to edge renderings of iP5 are starting to look pretty

I disagree. I went from the original iPhone to the iPhone 4, expecting to be blown away by the speed difference. Guess what? Not much faster at all. Camera is still a closed shutter _forever_ while launching. Text messaging, maps, etc. slow to respond. Typing characters just as slow as ever - I've typed a whole word and then look at the screen to see the letters i n d i v i d u a l l y appear. I still love my iPhone4, but I can't imagine how you could have seen a difference from the 3G to the 3GS when Original to 4 was minimal improvement. Don't get too excited for the 5.

Man, i dont see how that is possible. I also went from the original to the iphone 4 and my eyes were opened. it was easily 10x faster in every single thing that it did. opening apps, typing, emailing pictures. most times if i was doing anything in a app, and i hit the home button, i would have to wait about 8 seconds for the home screen to appear. also many times it would ring and the swipe to answer would not respond.

my bro also had this same experience

i have been awaiting the IP5 for a while now!

However, i really want an ipad, as i am often away from home, and an ipad would make more sense than a new iphone!

I have copped every iphone since day 1.. should i break this habit now?

If you already have an iPhone 4, why get the new one? The iPad is a totally different device and you will get a lot more out of it than a device you already own

Let's hope AT&T is better equipped to deal with the iPhone 5 launch than they were with the iPhone 4 launch. What a JOKE of customer service that was...

Good part of the iPhone 4 problem falls on Apple. Hell 90% of the problem I blame Apple for. Apple was the one forcing everyone to get new sim cards instead of just swapping it over from the old phone.
Then you have the iTunes activation crap. Plus standard Apple iPhone surge. Something that you can not expect a someone to have to pay for a once a year thing that would add insane cost to AT&T. AT&T system is set up to deal with average peak load during the day and even then it can take up to 15-20 mins for a sim card to go threw the system at peak times. Apple once a year slames AT&T with chances are more new sim activation in a matter of hours than AT&T normally has to deal with in a month.

BS

the carriers have to certify the phone on their networks before they will allow it

once that is done it's not like apple is going to sit on it for months without selling unless there is some issue in manufacturing

No so exactly. Providing Apple is using an approved chip-set and radio stack they do not have to do anything else. Just make sure the radio stack and the chipset are good. Since the radio stack is in iOS 5 AT&T and others more than likely already have approved it and I am willing to bet that the chips Apple is using is a among a the carriers approved list.

Apple biggest issue is the iPhone 4 is old at this point and way over priced for its speck. If it was any other phone it would be at the 50-99 range at this point.

And iOS 5 Beta 6 will be removed by September 29th. So all the pieces are fitting together. In about 1 month from now, we should expect an Apple Event.

Well I for one am pretty much convinced now that it's going to be a early October launch.

I have been struggling with my 3G for years now, as an earlier poster said it's painfully slow and only really use it for it's phone functionality.

At least it's all given me time to save up for the top model when released :D
I'm still on Generation 1. GAWD … slow. Edge only in my area until Verizon started selling iPhone … vowed to get the new one and not settle for iP4.

Generation 1 is still quite sexy, I thinks.
