I am due for an upgrade at the end of March, but would love to get the iPhone when it come out likely in the first week of February. Is there any realistic chance a Verizon rep would move up my upgrade date so I could get the VZW iPhone at launch? Is anyone going to try this/have experience with it?

I know that Verizon is removing the upgrade after 1 year after a 2 year contract, but the end of March represents the 20 month mark in my contract.

Like said, wait till tomorrow.
But if I was you I'd wait a month.
Usually early upgrades on AT&T cost an additional $200 on what the full upgrade customers get. So $399 and $499 for the 32GB.
Not worth it IMO if you only gotta wait from February till March but up to you.

As Carl said, wait until the details are released tomorrow. We are still not 100% that an iPhone for Verizon is coming, though we are almost positive. The fact that AT&T offered it can only mean Verizon will most likely allow it too in the name of competition.

Verizon doesn't do that to my knowledge (that kind of extra charge totally defeats the purpose of an early upgrade since you're almost paying off contract price). They'd be giving you the upgrade early, but you would have to wait longer for your next upgrade.

Interestingly I got an email from Verizon today telling me "You've earned a new phone!", when my upgrade doesn't kick in until September.

That makes two of us. We literally JUST purchased my daughter a new Samsung Fascinate a couple of months ago on Verizon. She used her new-every-two upgrade for that.

As of this afternoon, it now shows online that she can upgrade now.

Maybe they are upping everyone's upgrade eligibility?

Its possible that they may let anyone upgrade who's contract expires within a certain time frame. They did it with the Droid X.

I looked at my account 3 days ago to check my new bill and it says I can upgrade with discounted pricing now. My new every two isn't up till April.

Ughhh...I haven't gotten any emails :(

I really hope they'll let me upgrade 2 months early (18 months into 2 year plan instead of 20 months).

Now two of my four lines on Verizon are eligible for upgrades, and both were JUST upgraded to new 2-year contracts in the past 3-4 months.

So I guess you could be right, but I've been with Verizon for over a decade and they've never done this before. Early upgrades, sure...happens frequently. But not a "use your upgrade and then BAM here's another free upgrade to do it again!" a couple of months later.

I'm seeing these same reports on other forums as well so something's up.

So far it's only on my main line. My other two still say they can't upgrade until 9/2011 and 11/2011. Verizon has NEVER let me upgrade early either.

They have a thing on their site that checks your upgrade eligibility and it tells me no different than my account does... July!!

I wonder how much it is going to cost me to get this phone. I have the Droid X that I bought in October, so I will have to pay an ETF fee plus pay full price for the iPhone on verizon?

You won't have to pay the ETF since you're not canceling your contract. You WILL have to pay full price for the iPhone though.
