Just for ***** and giggles I tried it too (AT&T account). I upgraded to the 4 3 months ago. I am eligible for the 199 price. I checked AT&T and I can get it for 199 through them too. I wonder why. I am half tempted to get one at the 199 price and sell it lol. Wonder if it is because I am a Premier account

Verizon is trying to screw you guys:D

Probably
Personally, I'm not that worked up about it. Given that my contract ends in june and the iPhone 5 should be out by then. I'm more inclined to hold off and not get an iPhone 4. Not getting the subsidized price just makes my decision easier.

Plus by then, I'll get to hear all the issues (if any) that the early adopters incur. One major concern is the crapware that vzw adds to the phone. Hopefully we'll be able to remove it.

I've now spoken with customer service and a store manager, both of whom said I was upgrade eligible (with an annual upgrade) and both of whom made very detailed notations on my account. If I have trouble on ordering day and call, those will be there.

So yesterday verizons site said not yet eligible for upgrade but i checked today and this is what it said:

Eligible?
Yes, you are eligible based on your current plan. A non-refundable $20 early upgrade fee may apply.

I hope you guys understand that "Eligible for an early upgrade" only applies to selected phones only... does not necessarily mean you can choose which phone you can upgrade too. Go through the process and see what phones the website throws at you first before you get happy.

Verizon doesn't do that to my knowledge (that kind of extra charge totally defeats the purpose of an early upgrade since you're almost paying off contract price). They'd be giving you the upgrade early, but you would have to wait longer for your next upgrade.

Far as i know, ATT doesnt do that either. They let me uprade 18 months in my contract and i paid whatt joe schmoe paid for their 16gb Iphone.

Interetingly, i had a family plan with two lines. One expired in Dec and the primary not set to expire until this July, however i was eligible for the Iphone 4 at 199. Wish they would've made it in white though

I know, I can just imagine the countless threads near the VZ iphone release date about how Verizon is screwing its customers and tons of whining:D

With that new only canupgrade every 2 years, they are.

Most folks phones do not last that long. My Iphone has, but i take care of my ish. Most folks need another phone every year at minimum

Detailed notations are worth the paper they were written on. If verizon basically issues the statement that no early upgrade prices will be available, then it does not matter how many notations are in your account.

Its still too early to see how this shakes out but having something written in your account won't be that helpful imo

Its not new. That's how 2 year contracts have always been.
What you need or want and what the carrier is willing to pay for your subsidy is two different things.

Okay, so the Verizon website says I'm not eligible for an upgrade yet, but the Apple site says that I am. I tried my mom's number and she isn't eligible, even though she got a new phone around the same time I did last April. We both have two year contracts.

Well, guess I'll find out what price it shows on the 3rd when I try to preorder.

Actually this is specifically from the iPhone form that allows you to check your eligibility to upgrade to an iPhone....so yes, it applies. Actually, in my account, I'm up for an annual upgrade and it shows every single phone at promo pricing. Yesterday there was a glitch where Apple showed I was eligible for iPhone, while Verizon showed I wasn't. A quick call to customer service, along with an email confirmed that I was eligible and the site was messed up....now the site shows I am as well.

And don't you think that I didn't print that screen, along with the email from customer service, and the tweet from Verizon tech support....lol.

An Annual upgrade is NOT an early upgrade....and now Apple's site, Verizon's site, and my verizon account are all in agreement.

The problem was that they often refer to annual upgrades as early upgrades...but that wasn't what they meant by "early". They are talking about someone trying to upgrade that isn't eligible for either an annual or NE2 (i.e. contract for 3 months and now want an iphone), big difference.

I saved the screenshots and both emails stating that i am eligible for the iphone just incase.

Yes, I got a lengthy and detailed email from customer service today...explaining that I was in fact eligible with my annual upgrade and not to worry. The form on the Verizon page is now working, where it wasn't yesterday.

Heh, I even recorded my screen which shows me entering in my phone number, zip code and 4 digits of the SSN just so they can't say that I used screenshots for a different phone number :p

Anyone had luck getting VZ to bump up their upgrade date a few weeks/months?

All I know is that I am eligible for an upgrade on February 2nd and I WILL be Pre-Ordering on the the 3rd. I am glad that I don't have to worry about this.:D

I'm due for my 20 month upgrade on Feb 12th. I went into a Verizon store today to talk to them about moving my upgrade to the 3rd. He went to talk to his "manager" and said he couldn't because I wasn't the main line. I asked him if he could do at least the 10th and he said no but, if I were to go in on the 10th he could do it then. I got his card and asked if he was gonna be there and he said he would. He then gave me his card and put his number down and told me to call him. I might go to another store to see if they can bump it to the 3rd solely because I'm worried I won't get it on the 10th. You can be sure I will be there before they open on the 10th tho.

Call Verizon. Much, much, much more likely to do it rather than the stores in my (very experienced) experience.
