Oh absolutely. The idea of going to another country just to eat in a chain restaurant you can eat at when home, has no appeal. I prefer pubs to chains when I’m at home anyway, especially if there is a good recommendation.

Some pub grub can be excellent - some really pride themselves on offering excellent food.

I've had colleagues who wanted to head to Pizza Hut, or McDonalds when we were in interesting countries at an interesting time; gantt, I can understand this if you have been a way for a few months, and long for the taste of something familiar.

However, to arrive in a strange city and new country and proceed to want to beat a path to the nearest McDonalds is something I have never understood (and resist, if this option is open to me).

Agree. A colleague (who hasn’t traveled much and was quite young) went to Burger King for the one night she was in Amsterdam.

We went to a lovely place by the canal. Served nice beer, nice atmosphere and food was good to.
