Don't think there's any available anymore - obviously it's limited online though Opera still works.

I have a thing for old, turn of the century digital cameras.

I agree - a lot of character and personality in tech from that time, lots of different form factors trying to achieve the same job.

Remember using those Nokias with Blue Phone Elite 2.2.8 in my iBook G3 800MHz. Sending sms and making calls through the iBook (Messages, Facetime anyone?)
Syncing contacts and calendar through iSync (if I am correct). It was just awesome and seamless. A very similar experience of what Sony Ericsson guys had with MyPhoneExplorer on windows (later, available for Android phones).
I also have a thing from some "old phones. I have Nokia 8310, Siemens SL45i, Motorola Z8, Sony Ericsson C902, W902, C702.
Also my latest "conquest" : an original iPhone SE 128Gb
For me one of the best form factors from Apple. Will be an upgrade from my 16Gb one.

I regret not getting one when prices were reasonable ;)

IIRC I got mine for about 50 bucks and it had the latest firmware on it, so I decided to bite the bullet. 🙃 Still quite a bit of money for an (awesome) 2007 smartphone. Cheap compared to what original iPhones go for these days...

"What fresh lunacy is this?"

This is currently for sale on UK ebay at £70 (collection only.)
I have to ask, does anyone find this remotely appealing? Ok, if someone were to say it's now an object d'art, then wouldn't the MDD still be an object d'art but without the awkward legs?

It looks like they just took posts and put them where the screw holes on the case would be :(

What does Linux have to do with putting legs on a case?
I think he's saying that more people are putting legs on their old computers rather than putting Linux on them now. Likely it's hyperbole, but I can see the point. It does seem that case mods that reduce the utility of a computer are all too common now IMO.

Or those people are increasingly advising others to repurpose old computers as furniture - with the implied dismissiveness that old hardware has no viable computing purpose, as I saw this week in the Facebook group whose name shall not be mentioned: when someone inquired about uses for an iBook G4. Even Intel Macs have been subject to that sarcasm on there.

Yeah, that's also a definite possibility. That would also go along with "make it furniture" being recommended as much as and for the same reasons as "install Linux on it."

I don't see the recommendation of putting Linux on old computers as being dismissive of them or reducing their usefulness - quite the opposite, actually. Turning them into furniture is an entirely different matter and I agree "it should not be done" unless the computer is FUBAR.

I think we can arrive at the consensus that this group is best ignored. ;)

Agreed on both accounts ;)

If I'm ever in the mood to build some furniture, I might pick up some dead and messed-up PPC Macs to use. They do look really nice. :3
