It runs great with Leopard - especially for older games like Halo: Combat Evolved, which my son showed interest in. Frame rates more than tripled in Halo under Leo when compared to running on SL.

Quite intriguing that it runs faster using the earlier Rosetta.

I had Halo running with the v2.0.4 UB patch. I figured it must be something to do with the older OpenGL implementation performing better than the Snow Leopard OpenGL - at least for this game.

Edit: Some quick Googling shows Leopard used an OpenGL 2 implementation, whereas SL moved up to OpenGL 3 - so maybe the game was never optimized for OpenGL 3 or later.

I have some bits coming in slowly - a sil3512 Sata controller & radeon7000 64mb pci for flashing & a usb2 pci card. With the pandemic, shipping (even domestic) has slowed tremendously, so who knows when these will come in.

I'm experiencing this too. A courier dropped off the QS logic board this afternoon - there are items that I ordered more than 10 days before this purchase and they still have yet to arrive. It makes me wonder if the sellers are personally delivering the items on foot and are trekking across the UK to reach my address...

I have 6 won auctions that show:

A) Absolutely nothing - 4
B) Delivery date out to June - 1
C) Refunded - 1

I think sellers are simply not venturing out to mail parcels as they are not deemed necessary. It is what it is.

All of my orders have shipped, but I must agree that they are taking far longer than they ordinarily have to arrive.

My Pentium !!! machine has sat in multiple pieces on my floor for over a week now because I've been waiting for the parts to show up.

I suppose all is well, however. When you get to use 20-year-old hardware as much as we have, you tend to increase your patience...

I know the wait is real,

but

I cannot help but smile at the notion of how accustomed the UK are with respect to Royal Mail’s longstanding intra-national efficiency.

Meanwhile, here in Canada, one can order an intra-urban Xpresspost (high priority) envelope via Canada Post, and the time it takes for that envelope to basically travel less than 3km within the middle of a major city can still take up to 56 hours. An infant could crawl that distance in probably half that time. :D

It’s also why a lot of intra-urban and intra-regional high priority stuff gets handled so regularly by local courier companies instead of Canada Post.

My issue isn't with the Royal Mail but rather, the sellers for failing to post the items in the first place or to just communicate and warn me that there will be a delay. :)

Efficiency really isn't a word that comes to mind when I think of my experiences with the Royal Mail. Originally, I was going to share some anecdotes but on second thoughts, perhaps I shouldn't.

I can relate to that somewhat. Whenever I want to send stuff to my dad in the Caribbean, we always arrange for someone who's going out there to take it with them and meet him at the airport. Using the local postal system is regarded as the absolute last resort if nothing else can be worked out. (I suppose we could try DHL, they successfully couriered an item for me from South America to the UK.)

It probably depends on where you are and where your orders are coming from. I've received a few orders this past week. Shipping is definitely longer on Amazon. But my eBay purchase actually arrived a day early.

Our household gets far too much from Amazon and I've found that it tends to headline a date much further away then it actually ships on. At worst, most stuff takes either the same time as ever or may with a day's delay. That's with Prime, however. Amazon UK delivers on Sunday here, which doesn't happen with couriers.

I hesitate to talk too much about my vintage Pentium 1/2/3 builds on this forum. I really shouldn't. I'm pretty freaking horrible about staying on topic as it is. I'd just be staying true to form if I were to do so lol :p

Anyhow I did get an update on one of my purchases. It has a shipdate of 5-5, so that leaves 3 unaccounted for. I will need to reach out to get some clarification on these - all purchases are shipping from continental US.

Scored this bad boy, brand new unopened.
Will go to my X230, which means my Pb G4 will get an upgrade from 64Gb to 256Gb ssd.

Be sure to tell us more about it once it's up and running! :)

Alright... But only because you asked.

@RhianB The thread says "eBay bargains - what's your latest conquest?". It says nothing about PowerPC! ;)

The mods are in general pretty reasonable people. They know perhaps better than anyone else the nature of how one conversation can fluidly move from topic to topic - no matter which directory it happens to take place.

Opening a new thread on them shouldn't be a problem, after all, early Intel Macs are also welcome here.

If @arn or anyone else can confirm they won't move it to another directory (and change the intended clientele in the process), then I agree that there indeed should not be any problem to speak of.

@z970mp

Oh, Im not so much worried about the mods (who are in fact very cool) as I don't want to upset the anal retentive contributors who visit the forum. Not many I admit, but we have a few and jeez, only so much non-conformity can occur before they get their panties all up in a bunch. Not that I care all that much about their emotional needs but in the interest of getting along, I try not to be too distracting in my wandering.

But I may post about osme of my win boxes if it gets extra boring which it rarely does around here.

Here is my latest conquest, a studio display crt and a PowerMac G3 350MHz with a Macally Mouse.

Right now I don’t have any vga monitor , nor any adc Mac. Hope to build an adapter for the Apple Monitor.
The g3 turns on, chimes , and has inside 4x128Mb ram, 12Gb HDD and a plextor px 116 dvd drive.

Quite right - I shared the details of a 2011 MBP purchase a few pages back and there were no howls of outrage. :)

The thread title doesn't even specify that the bargains discussed have to be Macs. ;)

Oh boy this has not been lost on me. I’ve taken generous advantage of the title’s vagueness & could continue this trend if these dingdong eBay sellers would send me my stuff lol. :D

Man I love the design of those crt cinema displays - SO F’ing cool. I just literally don’t have the space for one sadly.

Well I could always change the title to specify Mac and PPC if you like :D

Personally however I like to read about all vintage bargains, whatever type of machine they are ;)

Cheers :)

Uhhh no that’s ok. The title serves your needs perfectly. For the sake of clarity, my earlier comments were not directed in any capacity to this thread specifically, I was merely thinking out loud about vintage intel win box threads in a ppc Apple forum & if I could get away with it.
