DualDisc, eh?

Put it in like this and you can hear something.

Flip it over - and you can see something.

Got a 1.33Ghz Powerbook G4 12" with maxed 1.25GB ram and already installed 64GB SSD for a whopping 50€ shipped :) Can't wait for it to come in 1-2 days! It was also sold by a guy who has it since 2005 and always took care of it so it's in very good conditions!
Bonus thing is the receipt he kept for 2049.99€ when he bought it in 2005 ahahah

Made a bargain yesterday: iMac G3 slot loading blueberry plus the accessories box including the keyboard, user manuals, stickers, original power cord and a matching USB floppy drive for only 30€.

I made an even better deal on an iBook clamshell, but more on that later when it's here

Following up on "SlotMusic"... here's how to do this properly. It is definitely not my kind of music but I like the way of distribution. It combines the new with the tried and true (this sounds like a load of marketing nonsense LOL). The Beatles "1" compilation was also released on/in this format, I'd love to get my hands on that one because I'd actually listen to it.

This came about in 2013 - in South Korea only I believe.

Outer packaging (with a hi-res photo of Il Maestro on the inside) and the actual "book". Very nicely done.

MQS, eh?

DSC00345.JPG

Getting to the inside. Multilingual booklet and the actual treasure on the right. "PULL ME", the red ribbon says...

DSC00349.JPG

OK then. "Mastering Quality Sound", uh-huh.

DSC00350.JPG

A roomier 4 GB microSD card this time - but the logo has been printed on it! I love this.

24-bit 44.1-kHz FLACs - not too shabby. That massive PDF is the booklet.

Yes, this format never really got going in the UK and went straight to downloads, even for high-res lossless digital recordings. The nearest I have seen are the MP3 Greatest Hits/Anthology type CDs that are sold in the former Soviet Union.

e.g. http://umka.com/eng/catalogue/alternative/brem-stoker-6-albums-in-mp3-format.html

You could say the same with software when DVDs went out of style. DiskWarrior 5 is on a flash drive as is Windows 10 and but I can't think of many others.

Which, in all fairness, are convenient/good enough for most people. Just a few physical media die-hards still out there...

Lion - if you paid 70 quid for it back in 2011...

Duh. I even have this on that but forgot. 🤦‍♂️ Also, the restore medium for my MBA 2010 came on the same white flash drive and that was SL.

I have a vague recollection that one of the disk utility applications came on a bootable FW flash drive but I might be confusing that with the Kanguru FireFlash, however.

This is my contribution to the strange formats league - an album bought on floppies about 15 years ago...mostly electronica and abstract beats as lo-res mp3 and some MIDI.

That's nuts and I love it. It's like issuing Big Sur on wax cylinder.

Yep - I have that one too but it wasn't sold in retail so I wasn't sure if it counts or not.

Then you need this to play the MIDIs on the go:

And.. The ante can be upped :)

iMac G4 20" with original box. Unopened manuals. All discs. $150 + shipping. Just got delivered!

The seller thought it was a 17" until after the item sold and he realized it was a 20" and wanted to make sure I was okay with it. I about flipped in excitement. These are very hard to come by...especially original box, manuals, and discs!

Loads Mac OS X Tiger beautifully. I have missed how the old Mac OS X versions would boot (dark gray Apple logo on a light gray background). Very excited!

Awesome work! I'm curious about the 20", and those who have one. I'm not sure how much yours has been used, but I've heard the screen can easily droop and sag, and that it's hard to keep at the position you want. What's been your experience with this?

Happened to be browsing my usual sources a week or so ago and found a 17" PowerBook G4 for $120! I balked at the price initially, but decided to go for it since it's in pretty decent shape and has a working screen. (My first 17" has lines going down the screen. RIP.)

The best part? It's the 1.67 GHz DLSD model. I'd only ever heard about these mythical machines and to see one in person... it is beautiful.

Will try to get some pics up later. And maybe a lotto ticket. ;)

Not a powerpc, but i snagged a 20" 2006 iMac 5,1 A1207 Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz 4GB RAM 250GB HDD with a fresh install of snow leopard for $29.99 USD w/$16 shipping. Should arrive this week as the goodwill ebay seller that had it is only about a 2 hour drive from where i live. Attached is one of the photos i saved from the auction.

Congrats! I loved using these on campus during my undergrad and in retrospect, I regret not trying to purchase or get one for free when the site was shut down...

Another slew of hybrid media...

DSC00352.JPG

This either plays as a SACD in a capable player or as a CD in any ol' CD player.

DSC00353.JPG

"DVDplus" - another CD/DVD combination but ever so slightly different to the DualDisc. Shown here is the CD side as indicated by the "audio" hint.

DSC00354.JPG

Same thing, DVD "video" side.

Now this is really cool, apart from the horribly cheesy gold colour. These came out in 1988. So how did you get audio from an optical disc? Obviously it's an audio CD. But how did you get video from an optical disc back then? Yep - LaserDisc. So it's a CD/LD hybrid. This was a failure since it was (presumably) primarily targeted at teenagers - but how many teens owned a LaserDisc player back in the late 80s? Even worse, in the 1990s (some) "normal" 12-inch LaserDiscs were also rebranded as "CD Video" and coloured in gold.

I haven't seen these in quite some time, brings back memories. I have five of them which I purchased new. Blast from the past.

Hi all - just to flag my threat on the Marketplace forum on here. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/uk-various-powerpc-components.2282268/

After some fun times with PowerPC stuff recently, I no longer have the time and space to play with all this stuff unfortunately so am looking to declutter a lot of what I have accumulated (I will keep some PowerPC stuff though...). If anyone is in the UK and wants to get a bargain on PPC components pls let me know :)

Huge bargain... maybe?

I just picked up a Powerbook G4 1.33GHz 12" with 1.25GB ram (max) with Airport Extreme. Picked it up for just $25AUD ($19 USD)!!! It's a little dented, but otherwise everything is intact.... even came with an original case!

Except one thing. The power socket seems to have some piece of metal(?) jammed into it, so the power cable can't be fully inserted. I can't check whether it powers on and works (but the previous owner seemed to imply it was fully working other than this).

Anyone got any tips about how I can fix this? I'm worried I need to dig in deep and replace a part... has anyone had this happen to them?

Congratulations!...maybe. I hope you can get it to work.

That piece of metal looks like it may have been the center post from the tip of a charging cable. They were made to fit snug inside the socket, and are held in place by friction. If I had to guess, I'd say your PowerBook took a fall onto that corner while the charger was plugged into it, and the impact sheared off the post. If so, what you need is to get a good enough grip on it to pull it out. That's an awful tight squeeze though - not sure you could get hold of it with a pair of pliers.

If you can't get it out, then unfortunately the alternative is to replace the DC-in board; and yet more unfortunately, you're going to have to take the whole PowerBook apart to get to it. Here's a good guide to give you an idea of what you're facing:

I hope it doesn't come to that, because these 12-inchers are a real pain to take apart. But it is possible, I've done it myself a few times, as have many others on this board. Good luck!
