If anyone happens to find a motherboard for a m6709ll/b iMac (233 bondi blue) please ping me, as mine has died, and none of these appear on eBay :(

Scored this little beauty for £20. Was very much dead when it arrived, and looked as though it had been stored in a shed (absolutely filthy, full of muck). However, it turned on and presented a flashing question mark startup disk fail - which I took as a very good sign!

Ordered a refurb IDE drive from eBay for another £15 including delivery.

Got her open and my god it was filthy inside. Someone had clearly been in there before as the ATA ribbon cable was completely disconnected from the mother board, and when I got the drive caddy out it was completely missing its original HDD. Gave it a bit of a vacuum, popped the replacement drive in, managed to get it back together... and now... whirring away and running 10.4 happily!

Bloody love this machine. I always wanted one, but at the time it was released I had a Power Mac G4 so had absolutely need for one... I ended up getting a G5 iMac but was never a fan of its design. The iMac G4 just makes me smile every time I look at it.

Lovely find! but please tell me you repasted the heatsink contact point between the base and upper-dome?

I just notice that its not mentioned, a lot of people dont realise it has to be done and neglecting to do it is a quick way to fry one of these machines

Latest addition to my lil' mobile phone collection...

Any Sony Ericsson phone branded as XPERIA is a smartphone, right? Nope. :p

Meet the XPERIA Pureness, a tiny, featherweight minimalist phone from 2010 that could have been yours for just™ 600 euros.
What's so special about it? The transparent 1.8-inch 240×320 64-level greyscale LCD. The display is milky-glassy white when it's off...

...but turns transparent when it's on. Contrast isn't that great to begin with and strongly depends on the background.

IMG_0251.jpg

My favourite, yet totally useless, feature is that the display can be seen from the back of the phone as well, providing a mirror image.

There's no other game that could possibly have been a better fit for this device. :D

Those were the days.

I have a couple. I just wish the fan could be a lot quieter but I think it has a lot to do with the case design.

Mine seems pretty quiet... though not silent. That being said, the comparison is against the Quicksilver G4 sat on the other side of my desk (also a very good eBay find - £70 including a 17 inch ASD) which though quieter than my old Mirrored Drive Doors G4 is pretty noisy! It's easy to forget these days how loud computers were back in the day! I remember an office full of G4s and while you got used to it the HUMMMMM made you need to speak a bit louder!

Yeah. The QSes ramp up a bit. I use mine for PPC gaming and it gets progressively louder and obnoxious. Nothing you can do without drastically modifying the internal airflow layout and that would mean a completely different PSU.

I only really use the iLamp as a glorified iTunes jukebox. The fan still makes its presence felt, sadly. I think, even sticking a quiet Noctua or something inside would be diminishing returns because of how the airflow has been designed. I would probably have to drill holes all over to change that.

Scored a PowerMac G5 dual-core 2GHz from eBay. Seller sent the wrong power cable (it uses an oddball C19 plug).

Ordered a power cable on Amazon. Patiently waited.

Power cable arrives. Plugged it in. Hit the power button.

Mac chime.

YES!!!

BANG!

All of the lights in my room are now off.

Grrrr, I explicitly avoided buying a liquid-cooled unit to avoid this exact problem! WTF?

Popped it open. The only obviously out-of-place thing which stood out was that the video card had been jammed in just below its slot, not actually in the slot. This meant the card was literally touching the aluminum plate which should normally be about half an inch below it. No idea what happened here, perhaps the seller had a fancy card in there and swapped it out before selling it, and fudged the install. Strangely, no burned components on the video card, nor the mobo. Maybe I'm lucky and the damage is limited to the power supply.

Anyway, replacement power supply ordered. We'll see!

Was a long time I didn't bought any new (old) Mac stuff. I needed to make myself a small present I guess...
Got this PowerBook 1400c for 45€. At that price I couldn't resist, these are more seen at 80/100 € + when in good condition nowadays. Was sold as "have no power adapter, don't know if it works", but wow... the thing is in perfect condition,
no cracks on the lid hinge area, it has the transparent lid cover, a 32mg RAM card, and it booted on first try :

Only... the 2Gb HD died just a few mn after I tried seeing what was on these four 500Mb partitions.
Had to change it anyway :D

I have just welcomed a new addition! A 400Mhz 'Pismo' PowerBook G3. Sold as 'untested' on eBay - which I read as 'this machine will almost certainly not work'. so was very pleasantly surprised when I got my power cord out and it booted first time! Display/speakers/optical(DVD)drive all work perfectly fine!

Seems to have been last used in 2006, and from the few files and apps on there it looks to have been previously owned by an art/multimedia school of some description. The most surprising thing about it though is that it is in PERFECT condition. There is not as much as a scratch on the case. It has all four of its feet. Flipping back the keyboard and the internals look as clean as the day it rolled off the production line. It was clearly very well taken care of, and then must have been packed away very neatly for the last 16 years.

Now to decide what to do with it. I actually don't have a Mac OS 9.2 install disk anymore, so can't really reset it to factory settings... though I do have a 10.4 bootable USB... so may just install OS X on it...

Thoughts?!

You will need to find the lid template PDF somewhere so you can print out your own cover designs!

Now that's beautiful picts of a beautiful Pismo...
What to do with it ?... Mmmh , 9.2 disks images are easily found on the Macintosh Garden, plus so many period games ...
I'm "working" on one at the moment, a 500Mhz, have Debian Sid installed on a VST expansion slot HD, and I'm doing my perfect WindowMaker/GNUstep desktop, Pismos and Wallstreets looks so good with a NeXTish Desktop :p

I found an in box Japanese keyspan usa-28x usb to serial adapter for 20 dollars. Still has the original Japanese language driver cd in the box and everything. I have no idea how it ended up in the US nor do i know how to read the Japanese on the box but i really like owning things in their original packaging.

And the Japanese text gives it an "exotic" feeling. I really like that.

Absolute WIN, that Titanium-- I almost wanna call it robbery! :p

I got mine for almost 4x what you paid for yours, and it wasn't nearly in stellar condition, and the batt was completely cooked. With good upkeep yours will last for a long time no doubt indeed. Especially having it maxed out like you've done.
