That would be great, thanks! Oddly enough I have a via chip usb card in my Quicksilver that functions without incident but need drivers for old mac & windows boxes regardless.

I would love to flash that fw/usb card though. Sounds like a fun project. I will certainly peak into os9lives to keep tabs on this utility. Thanks for the tip.

From memory, I had a FW400 card with a VIA 6207(?) chip that worked without issue. Tried to replace it with a combo USB/FW board that had a VIA 6206 chip and... nothing. No amount of tinkering with drivers would coax it to work, so it put me off VIA for anything but Windows. There are so many VIA iterations though, so I hope yours is one of the good ones.

It's the ATA controller card that can be flashed btw, not the FW/USB one. There is also work going on flashing SiI3124 cards for 64 bit SATA adapters that are faster than the rapidly diminishing supply of 32 bit SiI3112 cards. Good times.

Then I have to ask, would this work in a Sawtooth? The verdict in the FB group was that an NEC based card would be a better choice but given what you've mentioned, I'm curious as to your opinion.

For anyone looking to buy, this one is advertised with OS 9 / OS X 10.1, 10.2, etc. compatibility. Also has the famed NEC chip attached.

Thanks but...

Shipping:

Does not ship to United Kingdom

Nonetheless, I might have found an alternative that uses the NEC chipset and is Mac compatible according to the packaging:

I have a VIA chip card in my DA and it works fine (save one port that I think might be failing)

I suppose I could just try it and see what happens.

I apologize for the miscommunication; that wasn't intended as a solution to your problem, but just for anyone looking for PPC USB 2 cards.

Except, perhaps, anyone in the UK. ;)

No worries. ;)

I really think we need a PowerPC PCI card Wiki. Although that will be for someone else to do.

You already do enough. :)

Not tried that one, so it's a gamble with VIA as always. I did a quick google and it seems to be compatible with OSX 10.2.8 and above (as per VIA at the time) but someone did post this in a forum:

[usb 2.0 and mac os 9.1 (5:09pm est thu jul 15 2004)
i have usb controler base in via vt6202 chip this card not works in mac os 9.1… i installed usb card support 1.4.1 for mac os,my usb peripherals not have a power! (usb optical mouse) help please !!!
my apple comp is power mac 8500/233mh procesor 128mbram – by daro

Depending upon your needs, it might be OK but if you can find an NEC card for a similar amount, always go for that. It's what Apple used after all.

(MODS: NOT MY AUCTION!)

I wasn't even aware of this device. The same seller also has a Radius Power View (external graphics card for 68k Macs which plugs into the SCSI port) that I might try to get if the price is reasonable even though I don't have any 68k Macs. I just love weird stuff like that.

So... I finally decided to bite the bullet and grab one of these suckers after wanting one for almost five years now...

It was listed as untested, but I figured that even if the PSU were dead, the MDDs are massively easier to get going with an ATX supply than the Quicksilvers are, so that option realistically remains if needed.

Anyway, we'll see what happens... :)

Nice score on that MDD @z970mp ! Just too bad they suffer from the flaky PSUs.

Technically not eBay, but there's an original Bondi iMac G3 on my local craigslist, the seller won't reply to my email :(

I can hope, though.

I sold a lens on eBay, and before I knew it I had found a Pismo for £30, hopefully it'll work or at least I can build a good one from the broken Pismo in our loft.
I missed my G4 Pismo from a few years back so with one of the 2 CPU boards I might try another G4 upgrade.

Then yesterday I scored a 15" a1138 1.67 DL PowerBook for £20. From the description all that seems wrong is the flashing question mark on boot.

They should both arrive some time next week, when I'll know more about them.

Cheers :)

Hugh

I used to have the same model...and yes, I did have Youtube running on it, amongst other things....

I am looking for a battery for the powerbook g4 12 '' A1104.
I have found -

Well, aliexspress - $ 21. Apple has not been producing them for a long time, but I do not think that in 2020 there is a problem to produce a high-quality 10.8 v 4400 mah battery. But according to reviews on the internet, they do not work well. Where to buy? Can anyone advise? Or is it easier to buy a Samsung IRC18650-22F and replace the six cells yourself.
Does anyone have any positive experience?

I have bought one from aliexpress and it holds fine for the price

Lasts between 2:30-3h I believe. Keep in mind I use my pb g4 12 from month to month.

Perfect, I wanted to find some benchmarks. Since that is h264(it is using MPlayer however) MPEG4 Part 2 in QuickTime 6 should work with the current PPCMC transcoding settings. What do you think?

The youtube downloader was showing 3gp from when youtube-dl still offered it....but yes, to MPEG4 as below:

Have you used the 3GP features of PPCMC, if so what do you think?

Here’s a comparison of the 3GP (from the best of my memory) and the 240p QuickTime 6 MP4 settings:

-same codec MPEG 4 Part2
-3GP is 180p, mono 64k AAC audio
-MP4 is 240p, stereo 128k AAC audio

If it doesn’t play fullspeed I bet lowering the bitrate would make it work. In that case I’m only lowering the video stream bitrate and not touching the audio.

On a side note, I’m going to have the same exact specs as you had on your iBook. It’s a Blueberry and I ordered a 512mb ram stick.
