168000 people in the world have seen that site, and most of them will forget his face in the matter of a second, and would never recognize his face if they saw him walking down the street, even if they remembered that website.
That point I concede. But part of what makes something humiliating is the fact that ppl WITNESS it. 168,000 readers and 485 posts in a month is a lot of witnesses. Most local newspapers can't come close to that. People who post stuff also tell others about the story. Not to mention it bothered Amir so much he faked an ID to respond to the site, AND GOT CAUGHT! That's pretty strong proof of the effectiveness of the technique...on Amir.

And I didn't say I wouldn't care. I would. I just wouldn't get too flustered about it. I would still go to buy groceries, get petrol, go to the cinema and watch a movie, etc.... I'd feel like a jerk, but I don't feel it would be effective in the way you're describing it
I accept that you THINK it wouldn't bother you that much. I just don't think you're really putting yourself in Amir's shoes (so to speak). Likely, I suspect you probably don't have much to be humiliated about...are you
anywhere close to being the kind of person who commits mail fraud, doctors a passport, has an older relative threaten the ppl whom you've ripped off, writes up lies about ppl you've ripped off being child molesters, and takes perverted photos of women on the train with your camera-phone and keeps those pics on your computer? I just don't see you as being anything like this Amir. I certainly HOPE you're not.
But even if it wouldn't bother you "that much," you definately left out the "that much" part in your first post. But as I said, it worked enough for Amir to fake an identity, call the guy a pedaphile, and have his uncle threaten the blog creator. So I don't understand how you can make an arguement that you don't think Amir would be that humiliated. He is totally embarassed, the enormous tantrum he's throwing is the proof.

Sure, almost everybody will forget his face, but humiliation isn't permanant. Except maybe for Bill Buckner. And I doubt most ppl could pick him out of line-up.
