I like mine but if I had to do it all again I would have taken a pass and waited until better versions were available with much faster processing.

I woke up this morning and felt a little sad that I didn't order yesterday when I had the chance, then I read this. It made me feel a little better. I really do want one once they add some insulation. Maybe by Christmas things will be settled down at Element and my hubby can order me one for my present! :)

This is such an epic fail-case it is just hard to believe how this company has turned something with so much initial hype and desire into utter failure.

Vapor seems an appropriate name for this vapor-ware.

he better order it now if you wanna have a chance at seeing it by christmas

Still caseless in canada...awaiting elementcase to respond to my email and if they are going to honour their end of the bargain...if not, asking for my refund and if that fails a paypal dispute will be filed...now if they only shipped with proper tracking like any other company does (especially for $25USD) we wouldn't have this problem.

its been over 2 months since I've paid for this and its been nearly a month since it "shipped"

I just wanna get this elementcase fiasco over and done with already...

Reeee-dick-u-lous ... you already got married before the case arrived.

Taking odds on first child first or Vapor Case first??

LOL! I feel for you! You have had to wait WAY too long for your case! Too late for him to order anyway. I had to make the decision by the 7th. I suppose group 6 should be getting their notices any day now. I am curious to see how long the group 5 folks will have to wait. I did see that at least one of us ordered on the 7th.

I think somewhere there is a Customs Agent rocking Cynical Mindsets Vapor on their iPhone 4.

I'm glad. Its really strange. The case looks really good and I was excited to finally get it. ( i do dig it ) But after using it for a few days I've come to miss how cool the IPhone 4 looks on it's own. When you factor in all the mods people are doing to the case and the mods you have to do to all your accessories to make things work it really tells the whole story This product isn't ready yet and the seller isnt capable of dealing with orders. I personally find that the case makes the phone very slippery and hard to hold at times when I'm trying to text or email in landscape mode.
You kind of get to a point ,really quickly where you ask yourself if having the case is worth the limitations. I just noticed that the new Bose bud headphones I bought for my girlfriend won't fit her case. I can't wait to break the news to her. She gets her iPhone 4 next week.

I know it's clumsy, but you can buy an adapter to work. All of the high end headphones I own work fine. :S

Hey Wade. If you see a good headphone extender out there please let me know. I have to buy two. The Bose is really, really small. I'm surprised it didn't fit. I use Bluetooth myself but I need an adaptor for my car 3.5 imput.
Thanks. Oh, do you find yours slippery? I haven't heard any comments on that from anyone but myself.

If you update to iOS 4.1, you can dial *3001#12345#* to put the phone into field test mode. Which change the bar meter in the upper left to the numerical dB instead.

Touching the number meter will toggle back and forth.

The home button exits the mode.

For those that wish to see how things change the signal level on your phone more accurately. I was just able to prove that I loose around 20dB by touching the antennagate spot (which aligns with the AnandTech testing.)

The Apple bumper absolutely prevents this from happening. As well as gaining me around 8-10dB from having my hand a bit further away from the antenna.

Not sure if this will work if you're not on AT&T.

Hey akeakemai
mine says -84 what does that mean. how do you read this.

Hey akeakemai
mine says -84 what does that mean. how do you read this.

It means -84 dBm. ie -84 in relation to a signal strength of 1 millivolt. The closer you are to zero the stronger your signal strength is. Each -3 dBm is equivalent to a halving in signal strength. ie -84 is double the strength of a signal of -87. So, to compare, leave your iphone on the table for a couple of minutes and see the signal strength. Average it. Then put the case on and see what happens. Signal strength does seem to fluctuate a lot but you will get an idea.

The range (for displaying bars) is -51dBm to -121dBm.

Showing it as a number just allows you to get a better idea of how much anything is degrading (or helping) your signal. More precise as each bar isn't quite the same range (see the AnandTech article link above).

Even if the bars do not change, you can still be getting a small drop (or gain).

As already stated, a larger negative number means less signal strength. (Also explained in the link.)

Just thought that since ppl are trying to discern whether the Vapor is doing anything to the signal strength, this could help provide more definitive answers.

Hey Guys

Thanks a lot both answers cleared up my question very nicely.
Now fix the Iphone 4 antenna issue and I'll send you a months supply of Twinkies. :D Steve said he would hook you up too.:D

Hi

Hello, first post here. I've been reading this thread for a while, very informative. Could someone let me know if there is a 'code' for the field test set up described above for O2 customers in the UK?

Also does anyone know which colour will look the most like the 'bare' metal of the phone, Silver or the 'extreme' nickel? Obviously I've emailed EC, no reply. Their photos also are from different angles so you can't easily compare one to another, also no easy photos showing the cut through area, where you could compare the two 'colours'. Any help would be most appreciated.

Very best wishes to you all. Sulaco

The silver looks most like the iphone. The extreme cases sold out within 30 minutes of being offered. Neither extreme model is available. The silver is a very cool color.

<snip>

The "code" is the same for every iPhone running 4.1 no matter the carrier. I am with Rogers in Canada for example.

Guys take a lOOk at what's up @ EC this morning... This new 3G/3Gs case as stated will be a available for the iPhone4 in October .

Thanks, I have tried it but no joy. Mabel IRS because I'm on 4.2? I put in the code and nothing changes. I had to order so thought the nickel looked closest, from the pictures I could see. I'm doubting I'm in the 'lucky' group, although my order says awaiting fulfilment. In light of peoples issues I'm 'concerned' as to what is actually happening. The fact they don't answer emails is the main issue.
