I'll address those who disagree that this case has "reception" issues broadly...

1. The three of us who tested the cases for the Gear Diary review are all in different cities.

2. We did test one using Clear Coat around the antenna.

3. We also tested using electrical tape around the antenna.

4. As for the testing that was done yesterday, Judie didn't use anything on the antenna. She placed the case on the phone as Element said it should be placed.

The bottom line is this.

There is no denying this case has some effect on reception. Whether or not it effects you will most likely be a personal thing. Do you choose to modify the case, using tape, or skins, or other items etc. Do you live in an area where you're constantly getting 5 bars etc. All of these things come into play. In places where there is weaker reception, even using a skin (Clear Coat, Lucky Labs etc.) has little or no effect.

But for the average user, who'll just pull the case from the box and place it on as instructed by the user guide, this case will likely present problems (unless you live in a high signal area and never leave it.)

The ETS Lindgren guys started doing this whole tsk tsk thing the minute Judie told them the case was aluminum - and they were surprised anyone would put the metal near the antenna. they thought it was a BAD idea. that's she got the whole lecture about how metal kills antenna / signal strength.

I'm happy if this case works for some of you and if you don't want to believe it has some impact on reception so be it. I can only report back what I and my fellow reviewers experience.

As always, your mileage may vary.

Hey Larry, thanks for the intensive testing.Nice to know you guys are still on the job. My experience was quite unique. I was with Rogers here in Canada and for several days tried every type of material under the sun to put between the case and the phone. Rubber, foam, plastic, foil, latex, cloth, tape ( even a plastic bag in one instance)
I also tried putting these materials on different parts of the case or completely around the inside. Nothing worked I would go from 3 bars to 0 then in to the Edge network within 3-4 minutes. I then tried a Bell sim chip in my phone and had not one problem. I'm not using any sort of modifications other than my Luck labs spectra wrap. I've taken the case off on trying to see if I can loose signal or DB's and it's the same with or without the element case. It's like you said if you have great signal than you won't really notice sign loss. The best thing to come out of this for me was that I switched to Bell Mobility , dumped my Rogers Wireless account and no longer have any dropped calls like before. Also not all cell providers handle the data in the same way. yes, they are all GSM but the system they use and how 3g data gets delivered is going to affect things as well.

got a reply back from the elementcase guys...my case is as good as lost and they have agreed to send me out a new one. Hopefully this one makes it to my mailbox this time. I hope the customs agent likes his/her elementcase!

As poorly as this whole fiasco has gone for so many it appears they do care about their customers to some degree and have stepped up and are trying to fix their problems...Now, I wait again. *fingers crossed*

Man, you deserve a medal for your patience. My case works fine with no problems since I switched to Bell. The issue I'm having now is I never get though a whole day on one charge so I'm gonna have to put my B/B Element case on Ebay and buy a battery case. I would just send it back to Element but I fear with their track record I'd wouldn't see a refund till sometime in 2011.

I deserve a case! I just want the bloody thing...wether it kills my signal or not I dont care...it looks cool and I'll always have the memories of the stupid choice to order one...and heck, hopefully the next iPhone keeps the same shape so maybe I could use it for that one too??

glad your case is working out for you though your battery life sucks...maybe its the case causing bad battery life??

I'm just a hardcore user. I have never gotten a full day out of any device.
I re-ordered the Exogear battery case. It's not as pretty but I need the juice.
It's too bad you reordered. I could have expressed you mine and included the 25 dollar slim extender with it. You will need the extender for sure. I don't care about trying to make an eBay profit. At this point I'd rather you had your case.

considering that I already paid for a case, I might as well get one from them...I'm sure the refund process is not very functional, I dont think I've heard of anybody getting one yet. If I need another case I'll PM you...cuz a buddy of mine wants one and if I can avoid regular channels and not get ripped on ebay that would be amazing

Just watch until 7:00 of ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy. Man did he looked happy at first and then a complete change of reaction after he realizes that he paid an extra 20 bucks for a fake carbon fiber sticker...lol

Omg Element, this is so sad, that sticker should be included for free considering that you guys are charging 80USD + shipping for a damn piece of metal, I don't even care what metal its made of, it's still metal at the end of the day.

These guy are trying to get most out of everything, this is really a situation where you REALLY don't get what you paid for lol!

Haha. That would be a bad thing. Your buddy would get mine in three days shipped from Alberta and you would still be waiting. That might drive you over the edge. I can say for sure mine works 100% I have 4 bars with the case on using the Bell Mobilty network as seen in screen shots I posted earlier.

he still doesn't have an iphone to put in it yet though...i'll ask him if he still wants a case

Well I've just this minute had my shipping notice, I'm in the UK so this could take a while..... Will let you know when I get it.

Larry, maybe you guys got a bad set of cases? Or your case touches your phone? I use a Lucky Labs decal and my signal is terrific. Maybe you guys could do some even more testing? Make sure all of the edges of the phone are left untouched by metal and retry?

Don't get me wrong either, I have a lot of respect for you from this thread and after starting to read your reviews. But maybe these things need some more extensive testing before throwing it out with the bath water.

Obviously, I understand that it not touching the edges (if that's the issue) is Element Case's responsibility and that we shouldn't have to mod these things to work properly. I also understand that it should work just the way it comes, but if it works with a simply decal or extra foam tape on the inside, I think it deserves another shot. I have great signal. *shrug*

Sorry for quoting your whole post but I really have to ask: What is such abstruse science that people have troubles understanding that shrouding an antenna in metal is going to affect the signal?

let the waiting game continue

I registered for pre-order sometime in July, I think around the 7th. So I waited and read all the posts people have put up, and then on Sept 2, I get the email to order, and ordered on the 3rd. Now its Sept 10, I get an email with a tracking number. This is, so far, following the trend that everyone else has experienced. I am a patient person, I have a pretty good idea what to expect. I hope that the wait is worth it, and the money spent, as well. I don't expect to receive my case for another 2-3 weeks. If I get it before that, awesome! If it takes longer, so be it. I really want this case, I am not as excited as I was back in July, Element is not Apple, so making customers wait for a few more months wont work for them. Plus, Apple hasn't taken customer's money and then waited a month or more to give them their products. At least I have never heard of that before. I just got an order# email from Element
its order # 9468

in my email with them I was told that the UK buyers from group 4 (my initial group) received theirs last week

I've just been told my order will 'go out early next week'. I'm in group 5, apparently they are printing out the labels. Not sure for how long this will work but I tried a different tac today and got a reply quite quickly. Send me a pm and I'll let you know what worked.

Thanks so much for replying. Of course I agree. I truly do appreciate your research. The only reason I ever questioned you was because I have good signal! :D

I think it would be nice if you could post some review about how works for you the Vapor with Heavy Duty Mounting Tape.

Since the Vapor Case is so gorgeous, a lot of people would apreciate if you try it to see what happens. Hope it really fixes the signal problem.

Atomic iPhone case

Didn't know if this had been posted here yet but atomiciphonecase.com
Is an exact replica of the Element for only 69.99.

Looks like a great alternative, but definitely not exactly the same. There are many differences judging by the pics. Thanks for posting this, though. :)

This atomic case seems to have less openings, which could be detrimental to signal. I don't know. Is it worth the $10 difference? We'll leave it up to the masses. I also don't like the look of the atomic case as much. It seems too squared off.

EDIT: According to the site, there's no interior lining either.

No offense taken, you are right... I'm not reading all of it.

I asked for that because I see that the experiencies are quite different, and I was hoping that tape could be some kind of fix for everyone.

That doesn't mean they're not in the same vicinity or that google isn't updated. For the longest time, my family business was located wrong on google.

That means nothing.

No, your wrong, the user has posted false WhoIs info for their address. Very shady.

No you're wrong. Check this out. Same Address, different name. Again, Google could be wrong, too. Believe it or not, just because Google says it is, doesn't mean it is.

The liklihood of this company being very legit is still pretty low judging by the quality of their website, but the address and what Google says doesn't mean anything at all.
