You can already tell it's working -- some folks will hold true to the mantra of "no upgrade, no purchase", but others are saying "well, crap, I guess I have to get the Air 2 now".

Yeah I have seen a few of those already on here.. "might as well get the air"

It's just pure marketing.

Sold my retina mini recently. Never really used it for some reason. Preferred my Kindle HDX for when I didn't want to take out my Air.
Something about it never really gelled with me although a lot of people obviously love it. I always found it more difficult to read, and the colours seemed a bit wishy washy compared to the Kindle.

Agreed

It's an elephant all right, but everyone is shouting about it.

Believe me, I am extremely disappointed. I was looking for any reason to upgrade ... But now... there is no chance I'm paying an extra hundred for just Touch ID. Not even the new chip? No slight trimming to the size and weight?

Abysmal. This is likely one of the worst product "refreshes" Apple has ever done, especially for the price.

Agreed. I really do love my rMini; I was just looking forward to a great refresh and the addition of Touch iD

So back in 2011 I purchased an iPad 2 64GB Wi-Fi. The device has been great. I jumped on it at the time because I wanted a thinner iPad. Then the 3rd and 4th generation iPads came out and still did not regret my decision what so ever. They released the iPad Mini with the 4th generation iPad, but I wasn't interested unless it had retina. It was also nice because it prolonged the life of my iPad 2 with support by developers because of the mini.

iPad Air and Mini 2 come out and i'm tempted, but i'm in no rush to get a new iPad. Finally 2014 rolls around and i'm ready to upgrade. My iPad 2 is sluggish, bunch of games I want to play either are not supported or run really slow on it. I started hearing rumors that there might not be a mini this year and I was less than thrilled. So here we are. Apple announces the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 and in effect takes a dump on a lot of people.

I feel like for years Apple has kind of done what they wanted with pricing and it's just too bad so sad for everyone. iPad mini was $329 when it launched and everyone was ecstatic. iPad Mini Retina comes out and it's back up to $400 and everyone was ticked off.

I'm pretty disappointed with Apple that they honestly chose not to do anything with the mini 3. I figured atleast they would put a A7X chip in to really differentiate between the Mini 2 and Mini 1. All they did was add a third color option and Touch ID. I hope people speak up and tell people not to spend the money on the mini 3. If you are getting a new iPad you should either get the iPad Air 2 or the Mini 2 IMO.

When the the first mini was announced I knew I wanted a mini iPad WiFi+LTE when I upgraded next. What I didn't expect is I would be forced to upgrade to last years model and downgrade in size to 32GB. I will have to figure out a way to remove apps and other items on my iPad to make room.

I didn't want a bigger iPad and just don't find it appealing. I have a Moto X and switched after the 4S because I got bored of everything Apple was doing. The iPad was meant to provide me with that connection still into apps and games with Apple while I made this switch over. I still want to continue this but need to upgrade my iPad. I haven't decided, but I might switch back next year with my upgrade to the 6S Plus. At that point some would think the Plus and Mini doesn't make sense but I like the combo. For now I say I want the Plus and my just get the 6S.

I've used my iPad for gaming, watching Netflix, and surfing the web.

And they have the nerve to say on the webpage "So many innovations, but it still fits perfectly in your*hand."

Kind of bummed, want the best, would spend the money for it, but don't want a big tablet.

really expected the usual updates - lighter, thinner, better processor and AC wifi. Would have paid for it, but I guess they decided to push the Air more which does not make sense since they are losing all of the people who wanted a better Mini, me included. I guess we have to wait another year. Going to be the first time I am not upgrading.

As an app dev, I bought the iPT because it was pretty much an iPhone without the phone.

I don't need or want the phone (or the data plan payments). The iPT was perfect for this.

The rMini hit a real sweet spot, you can carry it around and yet still fit it into a larger pocket or inside a clipboard, perfect for people on the move.

If you look back, the iPhone/iPT were very close to the same.

People can use WiFi to make calls and major parks and many businesses offer free wifi.

Many people don't make calls, they text or post on social media.

Phone calls are 1on1, text/posts/snaps are 1toMany.

Point:
They are locking in their customers.

This is the same BS the ink jet printers companies do... they sell you a printer and the cartridges are all different, they charge out the nose for dirt cheap ink and fatten up their wallets.

We The People :D don't mind fattening up someone wallet, we just wanna get something good out of the deal.

Just heard Nexus isn't making the 7 anymore. Maybe it's time to look at Microsoft, they have multi-tasking 8" tablets from other manufactures that will run Android or Window (your choice).

Apple doesn't seem to remember they were a few short months from bankruptcy... All the money came from the customers... We have a choice, they just made the choice a bit easier.

The Mini 2 for $299 is going to be a very good buy now. The mini 3, I don't see how anybody could justify buying it. The Air 2 was a letdown to me as well but not this bad.

It comes down to one of two things for this lackluster release. Either Tim Cook and Apple are so arrogant that they don't care, or they have lived in a cave for the past six months and haven't been paying attention to what Google is doing. The new Nexus devices may have just been officially announced yesterday but the details on them have been known pretty much since this summer.

Tim Cook, since I am assuming he is the one making the decisions, needs to go or he is going to run Apple into the ground.

I have a retina mini and an air. I also bought an iPhone 6 plus and my "master plan" was to get the Air 2 and offload my current Air and retina mini. Then I started thinking about the Air and Mini and kept going back and forth between which one to keep. Kinda glad the mini 3 is gimped as it makes my decision so much easier. iPhone 6+ and Air 2 for me.

-1st I really can't see that Apple is taking a loss or has smaller margins on this. Remember when the Mini came out AFTER the Nexus 7 and all the flack over the mini being LESS in display and MORE in price?

How is it that another company can make basically the same thing MUCH cheaper with the only difference being the OS?

This is the same thing as the Hackintosh vs Mac... You can buy all the parts in a Mac and run OSX for MUCH less than what Apple charges.

I call BS on the margin argument.

- 2nd The net cost of a new chip vs an older chip --- The cost is higher for the new chip, but they are using the new chip in the Air2 and the cost between the Air vs Air2 is what? $100. Not to mention the screen, camera, touchID and other things.

Think about that... What did the Air2 get for $100... what did the Mini3 get for $100

Another issue is the cost of an old chip, it would cost you almost the same to go back and make an 8088 vs 80826 processor, so why make the 8088 processor...

The rMini NEVER went on sale. Last year I watch ads for Target and others, the rMini NEVER went on sale.

I found a sale where I could get the Air1 for only about $30 more than the rMini2... WTF is that?

Conclusion: Either Apple can't figure out how to get good pricing on it parts like Samsung, Nexus, ... Or they are directing their customers where they want them.

Either way... FAIL, they need to get back to giving the customers what they want or they can kiss more of their tablet market good by.

BTW, yea, I'm pissed.

Which nexus 7 are we talking about. The first one's screen was only average and did have some bleeding issues. The second generations was pretty much second to none in the mini tablet category. Higher contrast, better color gamut and wider view angles than any other comparable tablet.

You still don't get the higher storage options with the new mini 2 SKU's moving forward. But on the resale market and the refurb store there are going to be some good deals on mini 2 that won't exist with the mini 3.

I am so disappointed. I've posted before that TouchID was a must-have feature for me now, but I can't justify in my mind selling my retina mini and then buying what is really the exact same tablet, just with TouchID. They didn't even need to throw in an A8X; an A8 would have been a mild letdown, but I could have justified the purchase.

I think the iPad Air 2 is neat and desirable, but it's too large for me to use at work. I guess we'll have to wait another year. If Microsoft releases a Surface Mini Pro, I'll be very tempted.

Apple has been disappointing this year in terms of iOS devices.

Before people give me **** for saying that, I'm not saying these devices are bad, but they aren't great either.

A massive product range is fine and all, but it sounds like they are pitching to their shareholders more than consumers.

iPad Mini 3 - What the Heck was Apple Thinking?

What the Heck was Apple Thinking in brining out the iPad Mini 3 with a small minor FingerPrint Sensor Upgrade and nothing else ? I mean what a total waste of Innovation plus keeping the same old A7 Hardware and Crappy Camera.. Really doesn't make sense shelling out a couple hundred bucks for this new crappy model !!!

They clearly don't like the mini in general. Remember the keynote last year they were basically like "oh yeah and we gave the mini a retina display" and went on with the rest of the keynote. It is almost clear that the market demanded the form factor and they had to comply.

Calling it now. Next year we hear about the success of the iPhone six plus so much that Apple discontinues the iPad mini line for the iPad Air 3 and iPad Pro.

Calling it.

Disappointed. I was kind of hoping to upgrade my original Mini and get TouchID and a much newer and better A8 chip, but I guess I'll either keep the Mini 1 since it works fine or get the Mini 2 discounted. Same way I felt in September about the iPhone 6: I'm sticking with my 5. I love Apple products, but I'm not going to spend that much money on products I'm not totally excited about.

So does the iPad mini 3 REALLY still have the A7? It's not a mistake?

I don't understand the reason for it? I could understand not having the A8X, but why not put in the A8?? It makes no sense, why continue making A7 when you could throw in the same chips as the phones? Or are we to believe that they need any spare A8's atm because the phone is selling so well?

First they gave mini 1 the same specs as ipad 2. Then they gave it the A7, same as every other new ios device and now they are 'holding' it back again? Why?

Why not just call it 'the new ipad mini' rather than selling 1,2 and 3 if it's not really an upgrade...

Worst upgrades? Nah I disagree because Ipad Mini 2 was decent last year same specs as the Air.

I'd say the worst was releasing Ipad 1 with no retina when Ipad 3/4 were around with a retina. Also had A5 I think?

I reckon they kept the Air with better specs so more people pay more and go for the more expensive tablet.

I was going for the next iPad mini from the first generation, but I think I like what the Air has to offer this time around.

It's thin, it has a laminated display (dirt under the screen, ftw!), it's just a nice device. I haven't recently gone to a best buy and looked at the current iPad, but I have seen it before. The Air has a nice screen size, but I don't see myself switching from the mini to the air.

I'll probably go to the iPad Air this time around, it looks really nice.
I'd go from the first gen to the mini 3, but I rather have the flagship device.
