Eleven-year-old Accidentally Downloads $1000 App

- Always ask for password for purchases of $Y and over.

The first one would be nice so it I could set it to free and easily update my apps.

Problem solved. Apple DOES have this additional barrier that parents can use to stop accidental or unwanted purchases by children. In this case, the parents didn’t know about that option (they put in their credit card and gave their kid an Internet device without looking at Apple’s online materials enough to see that Parental Controls even existed). A simple mistake which I can understand them making—and one Apple did not make them pay for :)

Those restrictions, if you choose to enable them, are locked by a 4-digit code (separate from your lock code).

I miss shopping cart, but it is still around - called wish list now. Click on the drop down arrow next to the file you want to DL and click "add to wish list." Not sure if it works like this on the iPhone OS though...
 
As usual American's (yeah I'm American) love to blame someone for their own responsibility. It's so weird how people on here fight for freedom from the lockdowns that Apple puts on it's developers, freedoms from the limitations and restrictions Apple puts on the iPhone (hence why people jailbreak). Yet when a parent doesn't take accountability for their absence of judgement and legal obligation to be responsible for their child, everyone goes off on Apple for not having the protections in place to prevent this?

There are so many hypocrites in this country, probably because nobody wants to take accountability for their own actions. What if it were a gun. If the parent left it on the night stand with a bullet in it, and the kid picked it up and shot & killed someone, would you all be blaming the maker of the gun? No, you'd be going after the parents for failure to supervise their kid which led to actions causing someone's death.

So why is it different here?

IT'S NOT.

Kids are only as responsible as their parents. Would you give your kid $1000 cash to walk around the mall with and blame the store if they sold the kid a pack of gum using your cash? Of course not. It's not the kid's fault, 100% irresponsible parents. They gave their kids a form of payment (yeah, an iphone is an electronic payment method just like a credit card), and but not for that action the charge wouldn't have taken place. I don't want to have to press BUY 5 times and enter my password 5 times because Shaniqwa can't supervise her 8 kids who she gives an iPod with a billing account tied to her name to. SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN, IT'S NOT THE GOVERNMENT NOR APPLE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE THEIR PARENT, IT'S YOURS.

Yeah, after all if you buy a coffee there u have to sign a waiver of responsibility for burns, then reply YES three times to the cashier asking "Are you sure you want to buy this potentially scalding-hot coffee?" ... but what's it matter, thanks to people not wanting to take responsibility we can't buy coffee above 82 degrees fahrenheit. lol

funny you mentoned it. I always order their iced coffee. large 32oz with 7 shots of hazzelnut and 7 pumps of cream. evens it all out... mmmmmmmmm

Perhaps she should lock her phone and this wouldn't be an issue. Mine is set to 1 min I think.
 
This is one of the reasons why I don't have any of my credit card associated with my iTunes account. I always just buy myself some iTunes credit and use that instead. So far I've never bought anything by accident on iTunes (but I did once buy a Kindle book on Amazon by accident (since Kindle books are automatically and always 1-Click purchases even if you disable that feature for everything else on Amazon). Lesson learned for this kid and mother. Luckily they were able to get a refund from Apple.
