I dunno - I never had a Twitter account, so I really have no idea what takes place there (other than I miss out on an opportunity to add an entry to MacRumours giveaways, and apparently they gave an important account back to some guy in Florida). That said, nobody here is picking up on Musk saying he'll make his own phone? The possibility for humorous names and taglines seems abundant:

* Muskphone - "It doesn't stink!"
* T-phone - "The 'esla for the restofya"
* TwitPhone - "Free speech comes with a price!"

Call me crazy, but in over a decade here, I've never seen the rest of the content in a conversation thread like this do anything else but devolve.

People who are talking about wanting free speech online are mostly just wanting a place that isn't controlled and censored by one side of politics. They just want something where the place everyone is talking is censored as little as possible. Some censorship must occur on a business like Twitter, (incitement of violence, pornography etc), but what people are wanting is some place where there isn't a force from just one political side deciding what people can think and say on the platform.

Once you understand this, you'll understand why people are talking about "free speech". And then you might not be so condescending and rude to them.

I’m generally not rude or condescending, but I’m honestly tired of the cesspool where swimming in.

Your statement of the “goal” makes no sense. This is why the gold standard definition of freedom of speech is the US First Amendment. Where the government has very little power to determine valid speech because the act of censorship will always result in speech being suppressed. The government is forced to endure all speech, valid and invalid, as it is powerless to determine its validity.

To say that some censorship is required, but “not from a view that differs from mine” is nonsensical. What’s considered “porn” is very much something that differs across political and ideological spectrums. The same for violence and anything else…

In the pre-Internet world we had reasonable ways to limit the damage to those who sit in the back of the class. Sadly, we have yet to find a way to build those guardrails in tech and until we do we’ll lose a lot drowning in the ocean.

I've never seen kiddie porn on Twitter, so if you are seeing it without searching you might want to change your behavior.
They don't actually care about children. This is a performative action to avoid real debate or critical thinking (on their part) because a nuanced response allows them to declare that you are a pedo or at a minimum pedo-sympathizer.

If only the leftist celebs and their rabid fanbase were as mad about the recent Balenciaga controversy as they are at Elon for doing nothing wrong thus far. That'd sure be nice. Use your energy towards a person/company actually doing something wrong like Balenciaga did.
You must be missing the headlines because celebs are commenting on Balenciaga.

You didn't notice? The left used to defend free speech against the right - there's your example.
Are you conflating the first amendment right to free speech with being allowed to make that speech wherever you want without consequence? If you come into my house and say racist or transphobic things, I'm perfectly within my rights to tell you to leave. That doesn't mean I'm taking away your first amendment rights. Try again. Hopefully with a better example. Come on, with the kind of claim you made you should have at least half a dozen examples to pull out of your back pocket. Instead all I'm seeing from you is persecution complex.

I did not actually see it but Twitter themselves admitted it was on their platform, don't take everything so literally. The fact is Apple knew this and never said a word.
I'd be interested in how you learned what Apple knew and did about this? Is this hearsay or is information that has been confirmed?

Provide an example. I'll wait.

Sure- when CNN lied about trump dumping fish food into Pond. Calling him insensitive

Btw- Abe actually dumped food first- Trump actually followed.

CNN only modified story after unedited video showed Abe did first

Amen

I heard someone say the other day, "It's like he (Elon) bought a toilet and thinks the problem is people don't defecate enough in it". 😂

Indeed! Also, freedom of speech or free speech also means freedom to remain silent. If Apple chooses not to advertise on Twitter or to reduce its advertisments on Twitter, that is covered under free speech.
This I agree with- it’s Apple choice

But banning- not so much

Pretty sure almost nobody likes what Belenciaga did, my guy, but sure keep making it up as you go.

What's changed as far as this issue? App Store rules have always required moderation of user-generated content.

Apple cares to enforce that rule when it comes to conservative voices otherwise Apple would have banned Twitter from the App store for the Taliban and many others who are on the site. Perhaps that's yet another reason to remove the Berlin wall Apple has errected around the app store.

He’s going to make a brand new phone that:

a) Can compete with Android and Apple
b) Can run one app - Twitter

What a genius!!!

If this is the best example... ok.

I would agree they made a mistake. CNN modified the story, which is good.

What would you like to happen?
