The more I learn about Mastadon, the more I realize that it's an actual free speech platform that Twitter can never be. If Musk's free speech supporters actually believed in free speech instead of just liking Musk's politics, they would be moving to a Mastodon server.

Mastadon looks promising but from what I saw it's a little byzantine compared to other venues. I hope it does well.

So far, it seems relatively straightforward to me. Pick an available server based on your preferences. Sign up. Search for and follow who you want. To access users on other servers, simply include an "@" like you would with email.

Of course, it would be more complicated if you want to set up your own server.

Welp.. this aged well.

You’ll have to dumb that down for me. As is, it makes no sense.

Musk didn't like the results, so now he's whining like a prat and wants to change the rules.

Limiting votes to paying members makes sense to me. Just as here, contributors’ voice should be given deference over mere lurkers. Just as verified citizens should only vote in certain elections. 😏

Goal post shift. That "town square" he wanted is now becoming a "town gated community", because he didn't like what the rest of the town told him about his performance. In short, he is only wanting this option to belong to people who.. wait, how did you say it? Ah, yes: bend the knee, and kiss the ring.

Just so I have it right….it is your opinion people who actually have skin in the game shouldn’t be given deference on policy decisions? Does that go for corporate elections too … votes are not limited to shareholders?

If you are going to have a "free speech" democracy (as he puts it), you don't limit that "free speech" to only those that pay to have said speech. That isn't democracy or free speech...

That... is FEUDALISM.

Um, limiting voting rights for policy issue to contributing members does not prevent a non-contributing user from posting within the TOS.

It does, however, defeat the entire purpose of "free speech" and Musk's concept of "town hall democracy", again, showing his hypocrisy.

Correct. They are a different type of user…they‘re the type of user without voting rights. Please pass that along to your friend.

So not all people are created equal. Thank you for taking us back to before 1965. From musician Bruce Hornsby:

Said hey, little boy, you can't go where the others go
'Cause you don't look like they do
Said hey, old man, how can you stand to think that way?
Did you really think about it before you made the rules?

Thank you for showing your side's true colors.

It does no such thing. All users are free to post within the terms of service. When it comes to input on policy issues those who have skin in the game can vote.

Our conversation was limited to Twitter users. Your attempt to turn to 1965 is a preposterously childish allegation.

Very grateful for Musk dropping more Twitter files.

Showing how the government colluded with twitter

Colluded to censor republicans

And now the open discussion around the Omni bill package, which is essentially money laundering.

Very happy. Very grateful the message is spreading not just in the USA but across the world. Spread spread spread!!!!

Musk says he will step down as CEO once he finds a replacement which is in line with what he has been saying. It’s good to see he will continue running the software and server teams though.

Let’s see how this will go 😂

But does that mean you don't see content from other servers? So for example, I pick a server that is mac centric, will I see stuff from other people that signed up on different servers? For example, say that Microsoft has an account for their xbox, and its on a gaming focused server. Will I see their posts, on my mac centric server?

I was looking at mastodon and then saw how I have to pick a server - it kind of threw me for a loop

He didn't say when though :( AND he's gone back on his word, like promising to let elonjet stay. Not banning people, having complete freedom of speech, except when he disagrees with the message, i.e., banning journalists.

I think what started as a way to puff up his feathers and say look how great I am, turned into an embarrassment when most people wanted him out.

Yikes. “Genuine” meaning what exactly?

Also, who decides who is genuine and who isn’t, or did I miss someone’s swearing in ceremony?

To be fair, I have like seven twitter accounts for the worthless companies I have. So I could have voted seven times as opposed to one. But I could have paid to blue check each one as most are separate legal entities. So I would still have voted seven times.

However, putting a cash up front wall to vote would get rid of frivolous bot voting. I would also price the blue check to regions to bring in more people from countries that are not as wealthy per capital - but that’s just me.

I am way more curious about the conversations that went on at that World Cup game he attended - but that’s just me…
