He doesn't need to have class. Steve Jobs didn't have class. He straight out called people bozos if he didn't like them.

Anyway, Musk is Tesla's boss. What do you expect him to say?
Doesn't have to, but should know better than to not. How Jobs behaved is irrelevant to this.

I lost a bit of respect for Tesla. Pretty ship, ugly captain.

I'm about as big of a fan of apple products as anyone out there. But going up against Tesla is going to be a heck of a lot tougher than Blackberry. I think the idea of Apple building a car is a real stretch but who knows.
Why do you say that? What exactly is Tesla doing that Apple couldn't? Clearly Musk doesn't agree otherwise he wouldn't even give Apple the time of day. Unless he's like Donald Trump and just wants the publicity.

So, it's safe to assume that we won't be seeing CarPlay compatibility on a Tesla anytime soon lol.

Seriously though, I rented a Model S for a day and it was life changing. It makes driving a gas powered car feel like riding a donkey. Alas, I am in no position to spend $80k on a car. Fingers crossed that the Model 3 is ready by late '18 when my current lease is up!

Or maybe they leave because they're fed up of working for a ****.

+ Haven't Tesla's cars all be crap so far? Every time they were on Top Gear they just got ripped into for how unpractical they're.

Wasn't Steve Jobs also called an ****? Do you believe them 100% too? There is a difference between being determined to do something people said can't be done and truly being an ****.

And have you ever personally driven a Tesla? I was skeptical at first...until I drove one. If you're going to give  the benefit of the doubt before they have even confirmed they are doing a car, I think Tesla should get the same courtesy. It is a phenomenal car, phenomenal company, and they have a great CEO. I respect them/him as much as I do 

This is why Tim Cook meets with heads of state, while Musk sweeps up parts of crashed rockets. He really needs to leave this kind of thing to Larry Ellison.
I am not so sure. I think Musk will pull through.

I've been an Apple user since the early 90's. I consider Steve Jobs to be a hero of mine. It's funny that people think that Elon is scared of Apple. They are different. Elon's comments are similar to comments that Steve often made about other companies. They aren't a desperate attempt to tear down a superior competitor. He's just stating facts. Steve did it all the time. Elon's doing it now.

I'm just going to leave this link here now:

However, Musk cautions that cars are far more complex than smartphones and smartwatches. "You can't just go to a supplier like Foxconn and say: Build me a car," Musk told the German newspaper.

Didn't Blackberry and/or Nokia say something similar about Apple joining the phone market?

Hopefully when Apple starts making cars, they'll have less bugs then the last two mobile OS's that they've released. What is going on over at Apple? Both iOS 8 and 9 have been awful compared to prior releases. It really sucks to have apple releasing so much junk lately. Seriously though, Tesla makes amazing cars, amazing. Apple has a long way to go to get to where they are.

Then you laugh it off or be coy about it, you don't diss multiple Apple products and suggest that making the iPhone is as simple as Cook calling Foxconn and asking them to build it. What was that if not dissing Apple's engineers and implying that Foxconn does all the hard work.

Any other CEO I would agree with you. But Musk's experience with SpaceX probably inspired his comment. Making and designing rockets from raw materials and manufacturing them in the US with his own dime is much different than designing and assembling lcd panels and chips.

He successfully developed rockets at the tenth of the cost — again manufactured in the US, (did you know the Atlas V rocket used by NASA is Russian? And we have trade sanctions on them, how will we resupply ISS?) again, against all odds. SpaceX is the first private company to resupply the ISS. This is NOT something Samsung can just copy.

Why do people want to work for these companies over Apple?

Musk is selling what the 2015 SHOULD have been before people got pessimistic. Apple is selling a fashionable wristwatch, even with hordes of cash. This is why people want to work for Musk, they believe in this future, not Tim Cook's. Similar to what Job's sold.

Certainly investors will probably favor Apple's model of making insane profits, but at the end of the day I want to work for a company that is bringing meaningful change to the world.

Tesla is getting so popular in my city... I think Elon Musk is doing something right here. Automotive is an industry that so far hasn't been disrupted by tech companies, and I really don't think Musk is disrupting it as he is basically making the same thing, exchanging the internal combustion engine with an electric motor that was invented a century ago by Mr. Tesla and he freely took away the design due to expiration of patents. I wish the tech giants make something great in this field.

I agree that he is doing something right and I think Tesla is the disruptor of the auto industry. The car receives over the air updates just like a phone, has a 17" display computer in the car, and from ambitions that they currently have will do a variety of impressive features I have yet to hear from another car company. If Tesla was the size of  and had their resources, I think you would be under a highly different impression.

Musk should be more concerned about Apple mounting an aggressive buyout of Tesla.
The most innovative thing they've come up with is the "PowerWall", that alone would be a tasty purchase for Apple.
How much VC has Musk raised for Tesla and how long can they haemorrhage cash?
Apple's sitting like a Dragon on a gold pile and Musk looking like Bilbo Baggin's.
Tesla being absorbed by Apple makes perfect sense for the ambitions of both.

I think you better recheck your supposed list of 'innovations'

Then you probably should work for the Gates Foundation or something.

whats tesla really done thats really so great? as a die hard auto enthusiast, the cars are ass-ugly, and the enormous touch screen is gimmicky and a hindrance to use while driving. all theyve done is create the first electric car that most people (myself excepted) dont think looks like total ******* and gets decent range. they do catch on fire occasionally though?

they have some nice battery technology, but its just another electric car with poor styling that screams upcoming facelift built right in that wont age well at all.

id hate to see apple make a car, but apple turns a profit while tesla doesnt and never has and wont for the forseeable future. as someone else said, you cant hemhorrage VC cash forever, eventually you have to turn a real profit, and writing endless checks to make the biggest factory on the planet when you have virtually no market share isnt how you get rich. you dont get rich by writin' checks after a certain point.

Musk will undoubtedly eat his words just like Ballmer and Ed Colligan when the iCar is released and millions with spare money and nowhere to travel will make lines in front of the Apple store to buy a two wheeled first gen that can only turn right. Then onwards every version will add a wheel and more turning points, thereby driving upgrades and making Tesla feel even worse :D

Doesn't Tesla also have a partnership with Google? IIRC, Google's self driving cars have already driven over a million miles and they have over 70 self driving vehicles on the road today.

Apple has its work cut out for them.

As much as I love Apple the ride won't last forever as no company is on top forever and the arrogance in this thread means it's really gonna hurt when Apple doesn't dominate.
