I don't believe Musk will submit to the Chinese gov't by silencing voices in the U.S., but this is interesting and could affect global policies of the platform.

However, since CCP propaganda is currently left up and unchallenged on Twitter anyway, it won't make that much difference.

That's exactly the point. People were censored for spouting "misinformation" ... and several months later it turns out it wasn't disinformation. Twitter is specifically targeting those that don't agree with their ideologies, even if it turns out what was originally the supposed "truth" was actually false. And yet nothing is done about that when it's found out. Such as all the lies that Facebook was peddling ... and when they had to backtrack because it turned out the narrative they were pushing was indeed false, nothing was really done about it. Just them saying oops. And because of this ever-changing "information", people cannot be shunned for having differing viewpoints. How can anyone expect to have any sort of intelligent debate anymore if one side is entirely cut off from expressing their side? And even worse, people are afraid to speak up about very basic things in fear of being "canceled", so instead of having their own opinions and spines, they just go along without the current narrative or "truth is" ... and it stifles any and all chances at discussion. People that are in favor of all this excessive cancel culture need to go move to a country where they actually have no freedoms ... then come back and kiss the floor because they didn't realize they had it so good. It's disgusting and terrifying what's going right now. And anyone in support of this needs to really take a look at the bigger picture of what's going on. Those in power are able to gain more power by dividing and conquering people ... and setting them against one another. This Democrat vs Publican thing is absolutely asinine ... especially all of Biden's supposed desire to "make peace" ... and yet he's never stopped calling half the country racists, white supremacists, and terrorists. Even if millions of people don't agree with what the extreme right are doing, they still all get lumped into the same crowd. This Biden "unity" was nothing more than a talking point. The world is becoming absolute bananas.

From what we've seen so far, the "arbiters of truth" are literally now openly stating it's because of an agenda ... of power ... of control. They aren't even hiding it anymore. This is all insane. And it's incredibly disheartening that so many people have absolutely no clue or care just how bad this is getting. Even worse ... defending it. Being brainwashed is not a sign of intelligence and free thought.
Thus, the reason why the most vocal voices of one side are so afraid of open dialog, aka; free speech. It has nothing to do with Musk per se, it is the power to squelch competing ideas they crave and want to retain, plain and simple. To argue otherwise is a) not understanding what taking place, or b) to be disingenuous.

It's scary how many people are okay with this ... which is the biggest problem. Seems a lot of people have lost the ability to think for themselves and just parrot everything they're spoon-fed.

but censoring a sitting President is tyrannical
I've seen this claim before and it baffles me. Whether you agree with the ban or not, how is banning one of the most powerful people in the world more tyrannical than banning a nobody?
Being willing to treat powerful people with the same rules as nobodies should be a sign that they are willing to stick to their core principles.

What kind of revisionist world do you live in where Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and Truman were conservatives?
They're literally all Democrats.

If you don't see the problem with it, then we have nothing to discuss. You may not agree with the diarrhea that came from his mouth, but censoring the sitting President is absolutely ridiculous, regardless of what side you're on. This has literally never happened in the history of the country ... and you should be worried.

Just a reminder that less content moderation ≠ more free speech.

It just means that the speech of the vulnerable, the harassed, and the targets of hate speech will be silenced, or at least chilled

Elon has a long hill to climb to prove that he now cares about the fair, but perhaps not favorable, views of everyone, particularly as they relate to him and his companies personally.
Well said. Too many people have a 12 year olds understanding of what the first amendment means.

Twitter is currently an echo chamber. That needs to change. You can't have a social platform where only certain ideas and viewpoints are allowed.
It still see tons of people on Twitter saying the 2020 election was stolen, vaccines are bad, "woke" people are going to destroy America, etc. And if I click on one of those tweets, I get a list of dozens of similar tweets that express a similar viewpoint.

Mostly on the side of those censoring it.

That's because Twitter has 10 trillion people on it. Also, people are allowed to say all of those things, whether you agree with them or not.

You know how SEPERATE companies work right? Or the fact that Telsa is the only car company that seems to cope with supply issues and chip shortages... and you have seen the sales figures right and every professional forecast for the next 5 years. and:

Oh if you are shorting now on the back of Bill gates. you should probably know all that happened a few years ago - so you know should probably get out of the investment game..

Musk in 12th Feb 21.
“I also heard that at one point he had a large short position. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but it seems weird. People I know who know the situation pretty well, I asked them “are you sure?” and they said “yes, he has a huge short position on Tesla”. That didn’t work out too well.”

Bill Gates 24th Feb 21. after he failed with his short ( because it was some time ago )
"Well, you know, I think Tesla is an amazing company. I wish I’d owned or been more on the long side (laugh), but it’s great. I have lots of relatives that own Teslas that I helped buy for them so nothing but positive thoughts about Tesla and its role."
TSLA is down $147 a share since April 4th. Ive made a bundle. You shouldn't be emotionally tied to this stock. You need to understand how this stuff works before commenting. Google it. Learn how to short, but don't do this if you don't know what you are doing, like now. Thanks for posting!

Have account on another platform that allow all offensive speech and I can testify it’s insane. Use the block feature heavily. o_O

Why is censoring the sitting president—who has a plethora of different ways to get their speech out there—worse than censoring a nobody, if both of them broke the rules?
I'm not debating the merits of that specific action, but I don't see how a powerful person being above the "law" (or in this case, the rules of the platform) is a good thing.

There goes Twitter. If you guys thought it was a cesspool the way it was, just wait for the crap-storm now. It's going to be like the thunder dome... only no one leaves.

So, if you don’t want to look at them, why do you click?

Is your problem that other people have opinions and arguments that differ from your own, or that, perhaps you’re not fully invested in your own viewpoints and want to take to look at what people are saying?

Great…. A significant blow to censoring is being dealt

Layoff all the woke people and move the headquarters to Texas
Do you really believe everyone should have a platform? What about Hitler? Charles Manson? Should those people have a platform? Where is your line? And if you don't have a line, do you really think the world could survive without one? Because I'm sure allowing everyone a platform is the quickest way to all-out anarchy, misery, war and violence. We can debate what the line is, sure. But there's gotta be one. There's gotta be.

It has literally never happened because we literally never had a sitting President that displayed that kind of behavior on the "public Town Hall".
You're sounding the alarm at the wrong historical "first". You should be worried that more didn't happen to that President.
