So will Elon Musk be the CEO of Twitter?

What does it actually mean for one man to "own" a social network like this?

And does he have to show up at the office every day? Or will he be using Zoom?

:p

Just a reminder that less content moderation ≠ more free speech.

It just means that the speech of the vulnerable, the harassed, and the targets of hate speech will be silenced, or at least chilled

Elon has a long hill to climb to prove that he now cares about the fair, but perhaps not favorable, views of everyone, particularly as they relate to him and his companies personally.
No, it means more free speech.

Do you really believe everyone should have a platform? What about Hitler? Charles Manson? Should those people have a platform? Where is your line? And if you don't have a line, do you really think the world could survive without one? Because I'm sure allowing everyone a platform is the quickest way to all-out anarchy, misery, war and violence. We can debate what the line is, sure. But there's gotta be one. There's gotta be.
There are literal terrorist organizations on Twitter right now that are calling for the genocide of other countries and aren't being censored. So the hypocrisy of Twitter has known no bounds.

The answer to the problems of "what people can say" or "how they say it" or "what types of people are on a service"..

...is always going to be "more services" so people can choose the type of experience they prefer and get the most out of....or partake in multiple services!

Elon isn't going to usher in some utopian perfection of "free speech!", but no "bad stuff"..
It's an unattainable goal. It isn't even a goal worth pursuing.

All of humanity isn't going to suddenly all play by and be happy about the same rules, for all people, of all persuasions, worldwide.

We can't get everyone to agree that "the Earth is round"...

By the same token, there is no method of operation or set of rules that will make all concerned parties "happy" about how a service is run and what you can/can't do on it.

While true maybe in the future I won't get censored for posting a CDC graph.
Or quoting a CDC headline.
Or ...

Considering the President (Dictator) of China, the Taliban, the prince of Saudi Arabia, and DPRK shills are allowed on twitter but the sitting POTUS was deplatformed, that should tell you that the only line that exists is based on political ideology.

Yeah there are Twitter accounts that have been banned and literally all they did was post tweets of people contradicting themselves. The type of censoring going on in inexcusable. These weren't even issues of hate speech or harm, they were just posting hypocrisy.

People want to willingly ignore what's actually happening. I mean there is literal modern day genocide happening in China. When Biden was asked about it, he said it was just part of their culture.

Oh, I’m not speculating. Any platform can be abused. If a person can be harassed in real life then they can be harassed digitally as well. It’s unfortunate but it happens (to everybody, BTW, not just those you mentioned).

However, it’s a moot point because I don’t believe Musk will do away with all content moderation. But I do believe he will do away with policies that have silenced some voices...

Please do your own research.

There are countless examples of it.

I know we can all think of at least one particular voice and one particular news story that have both been censored in the past couple years.

That will be the real challenge.
Allow all POV while regulating content to keep it under control.

Can it be done?

Right. But did any of those leader's followers storm the capital, kill police officers and steal laptops from our politicians why they stood by and watched?

If it were simply about ideology, Trump would have been taken off years prior.

Although that event was stupid, how many police "officers" (for some reason you are using that plurally) were actually killed during that day? One cop died later from health complications and an unarmed woman was shot and died. People were taking selfies inside the capital and officers let them inside. That entire day was idiotic and shouldn't have happened, but what actually happened was blown way out of proportion. And yes, genocide in China is infinitely worse than what happened that day. Or terrorists in the Middle East throwing homosexuals off the roof for being homosexuals (and the God knows what they are doing to women and children every single day). Or parents eating their own children in North Korea because they're starving. You're living in a bubble. You have no idea the atrocities happening in the world.

Great…. A significant blow to censoring is being dealt

Layoff all the woke people and move the headquarters to Texas
Lol. You think he won't censor? Elon Musk does not care about free speech (which - indisputably - does not apply to Twitter). Rather, Elon Musk is a fan of speech without accountability. Big difference.

So, if you don’t want to look at them, why do you click?

Is your problem that other people have opinions and arguments that differ from your own, or that, perhaps you’re not fully invested in your own viewpoints and want to take to look at what people are saying?
I wasn’t complaining that those tweets exist. I was countering the claim that Twitter is some kind of partisan echo chamber, left wing or otherwise.

Me saying that “allow all legal speech” isn’t a realistic goal isn’t the same as me saying I want to ban people who disagree with me, or that I agree with all of Twitter’s moderation decisions.

That was a tough subject, in their defense.

I was on a group trip with friends and in that group we had "refuse to take mask off at any point" all the way to "had ivermectin on him, just in case"

We have to try to show some grace
None of this is perfect and platforms are in really really tough spots.

I promise you there is nothing Elon Musk can do that will rectify all issues of likely overzealous moderation (as in your case).

Right, but this was about the US and Trump's influence over US citizens. He's like freakin' Jim Jones. Allowing that man a platform is dangerous. Not because he's right-wing or the left-wing of whatever... there are plenty of sensible, responsible people from the right who are on Twitter and allowed to tweet endlessly. The reason Trump isn't on there is because he's able to influence people to violence with a single tap of a finger, and that's just too dangerous to meddle with. So they removed him. It's pretty simple stuff.

The killing of the police officers has been debunked, not one person that has been arrested at the capitol "insurrection" has been charged of such a thing, and all but one of those officers died under curious situations days after the event. In fact, if you bothered to watch any archived video of the event, most of the capitol police stood around and watched them walk right in as if the whole thing was encouraged.

There was minimal security, and not a single "insurrectionist" was armed during the whole process. But yeah, as the media will have you believe we almost lost our democracy to a few hundred idiots and a guy dressed as a shaman.

Meanwhile in China - forced labor, organ harvesting, and genocide is happening to muslims and chinese nationals are being locked in their apartments and starved to death but the MSM doesn't care to talk about it.

Without acknowledging the validity of your example (because except for a few bad actors, what happened on Jan. 6 was a riot), we can say that, yes– the leaders of China, Saudi Arabia, and the Taliban do far worse than that on a daily basis, including genocide.

If the CDC is posting it, is it really a tough subject?

The point is that, in a free society, we need to be able to debate all these issues honestly and openly.

What Twitter actually did by censoring these opinions is to harm public health, because they made those who were already reluctant to take the vaccine more suspicious.

I don't belong to a political party. I have no pony in the race. But I can see crazy from a mile away, and it comes in shades of blue and red. Trump is a madman, period. If I were a republican, I would not have voted for him, and I would not have supported him after he won. He was a disgrace to the office he represented, based on the way he spoke and carried himself alone. Beyond a president's policies, his decorum is paramount and matters... and Trump was like a heavy-drinking, loud-mouthed, swashbuckling mechanic sitting at the end of the bar, telling one politically-incorrect joke after another. In other words, he's not fit for the oval office. And the whole Twitter thing is the result of that.

If Twitter were anti-republican, they would ban every one of them. But they don't (look it up). They only ban the ones like Trump who use it to manipulate naive people for their own gain. They only ban the obvious madmen (and women). If you can't see that, then there is nothing I can do for you. You'll just have to keep believing what you believe.

Are they calling for genocide on Twitter? Or are they terrorist organizations that are on Twitter but don’t break the Twitter TOS on Twitter itself? (I honestly don’t know, perhaps there are Tweets by these organizations that should result in the banning of their account)

You're kidding, right? They threatened to ban the American Heart Association for posting studies that the vaccine has been linked to an enlarged heart. They ban anyone that doesn't align with their narrative, not just "madmen". It has nothing to do with crazy people. People are getting banned for very mild things. If you can't see that, then there's nothing I can do for you. And yes, they are very anti-Republican. Banning every single one of them wouldn't make sense and would be an even more obvious abuse of power. But the ones that are being banned aren't often "madmen" ... they are just stating ideas that go against the narrative. Please ... just stop.

Yes, they are calling for genocide and death on Twitter. They are greatly violating the TOS, but they don't get banned. Twitter only cares about TOS when it goes against their narrative.

Please back that up with some sourcing.

Who has been censored?
About what? Where? When?

Twitter has terms of service - if you violate that, you are going to be reprimanded.

If you want a low moderation service without liberals, you can just join Gab.
Does Gab have a wider array of voices? Does the speech on Gab more accurately represent the beliefs of humans?
Conservatives, liberals, and progressives do not bother me, it's unfortunate some are so deep in their own hate they cannot see it. I prefer a place that welcomes all views, especially opposing. I like the free exchange of ideas whether I agree with them or not. If I see something absolutely abhorrent I keep scrolling and do not waste time crying about it. Twitter was the best purchase, it is already well established. It just had zero direction or accountability, the rules were more fluid than gender. I hope they create some solid guidelines and work to educate or root out the actual hate that exists on there.

Even conversations about Twitter are awful. The best thing that Musk could do for the world is just shut the whole thing down.
