Does anybody here think Elon should run for president? I kind of think he should. I think I would give him my vote, personally.

Man, I’d love to see him and Tim Cook converge minds if they could get along, two of my most respectable CEOs on my list.

Twitter has agreed to Tesla CEO Elon Musk's offer to buy the company for $44 billion, Twitter announced today. Bloomberg was first to report early Monday morning that a deal between the two parties was imminent.

Two weeks ago, Elon Musk offered to buy Twitter for $54.20 per share. Twitter and Musk, following weeks of speculation and public drama, agreed today to the $44 billion deal. Earlier reports indicated that Twitter's board was concerned that Musk's offer would be undervaluing the company by the time the social-media giant announces its Q2 earnings later this week.

Before his offer to outright purchase the platform, Musk purchased 9.2% of the company following heavy criticism of Twitter, on Twitter. Following his share purchase, Musk was poised to join the company's board to try and enact changes he said would promote "freedom of speech," but Twitter's CEO, Parag Agrawal, unexpectedly announced that Musk would no longer be joining the board.

In a statement, Musk said that he wants to make Twitter "better than ever" with new product features that will defeat spam bots and authenticate all humans. When Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter is complete, Twitter will become a privately held company. The deal is expected to close in 2022, subject to approval of Twitter stockholders, the receipt of applicable regulatory approvals, and the satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.

Much ado about….someone’s ego…and nothing really more. The amount of time the MSM has spent on this today (Bloomberg/CNBC especially) shows how low they have dropped in regards to real and pertinent news coverage. Well, have to wait 15 minutes now……

Literally what makes you think a car company CEO can save a social media company other than the fact that he’s rich?

I’ll never understand the blind loyalty to Elon Musk.
Remember that song from long ago? ‘Cult of Personality’. Simply foods for simple minds…..

Hey @turbineseaplane , does this count as "hate speech", should this person be censored and removed from this platform?

If this members comments had been directed at a race or gender they would be perma banned in a second but they are free to spew hateful things at people because of their politics?!?! Time to add "political party" to the list of protected classes.
You don’t choose your race or gender, you’re born with it or into it. However political afilliations can be changed, you can choose to not even indulge in any politics if you want, and it has never been a protected class. You can’t stop gay people from being gay or change their race, their gender identity etc, that’s who they are. Parties are not the same thing, in fact almost everyone would leave their parties if their party’s platform changed radically.

I think that post should be taken down, and has no place on this site. I reported it. I suspect that it will be taken down. As for "in a second" it's silly to think that a single post taking less or more time to take down than another is some kind of proof of partisan bias.

Current America hates democracy, doesn’t it.

These days it’s just about personality cults, plutocracy, authoritarianism and absurd, made up battles.

A dystopian future ahead fueled by dopamine and adrenaline stimulating AIs, increasingly concentrated wealth and the inevitable violence those factors create.

I’d rather neither of them run for any office, but I agree with you otherwise. That would be a great team. Two great minds.

You can choose whether or not to join and participate in a hateful political party. You don't get to choose the colour of your skin. Do you really not get that?

Not at all, it is a simple observation. The member I questioned had a few posts in this thread claiming that hate speech should not be tolerated so I simply asked if the post met his criteria.

My reference to "in a second" probably should have read "without question" but I stand by it either way. If the post in question would have been directed at a race, gender or sexual orientation the post would be moderated without question and the member probably perma-banned based on what I see occur on this particular site and hear about others.

I see that Elon deleted the tweet about removing the "w" from "twitter"

I guess that won't be happening, 'eh?

Members of the Republican Party literally tried to overthrow the government and destroy democracy. I’m a registered republican, but I’ll call it like I see it. If you think otherwise, you’re drinking the cult koolaid my friend.
It was a riot with a few bad actors. I'm a registered Republican as well, and I call it like I see it. If you think otherwise, you're drinking the Elitist Democrat & Corporate Media cult koolaid, my friend.

See how that works?

To keep it in perspective, just a few short months before that, the Left was crying about excessive use of force when BLM protesters were at the gates of the White House throwing bricks at the police there.

Just a few short months before that, parts of Minneapolis burned. Throughout the year, Antifa tried to burn down a Federal courthouse in Portland multiple times.

It works both ways and hypocrisy is rampant.

Do you really believe that blanket labeling an entire party "hateful" based on the actions of a few is wise? Should all Democrats be labeled the same as those on its fringe that behave badly? Should all Democrats be labeled cheaters, abusers of women via their position of power because those labels fit former President Clinton? Etc. There are despicable people across all spectrums, groups, classes etc.

Be better.

Exactly! Though I went a step further in 2016 and registered independent. Long line of republicans in my family, but what we see today is NOT the Republican Party.

I'll vote for a candidate up and down the ticket, regardless of party.
Hilarious. You can say the exact same thing about the Democrat party. Can you imagine JFK talking about defunding the police or suppressing free speech? Nope.

I care so little about Twitter… that all of this is seen more as entertainment than anything else.
Getting the 🍿 ready! Curious to see where this ends.

Tesla supporters are concerned that Musk adding another company to his collection will distract his attention from Tesla. EV haters welcome the Twitter purchase because they hope it will distract Musk's attention so that Tesla declines and the rest of the EV industry also goes down.

The same people who say a rich tech billionaire like Jeff Bezos has no business owning the Washington Post, now think it's ok for Elon Musk to own Twitter?

For all his talk about free speech and no censorship, let's see how "free" it will be once people start posting threats of violence against Musk and his family, along with blatantly harmful false accusations.

Truth Social: freedom of speech as long as you don't say anything negative about the company or its leader.

I think you miss the point of what it means to exercise "free speech". It should not be used for the purpose of bringing harm to others ... verbally, emotionally, or otherwise. Yes, some speech should be downvoted by society.
It's not my fault or responsibility that you decided to wrap your self worth around your braindead opinions, and to stifle my constitutional rights over your decision to stick your head in the sand, and then stand here to share the good word about the safety of the sand, well that's just hypocritical.

You don't have a constitutional right to not have your feelings get hurt, I have the constitutional right to say absolutely whatever the **** I want, and I'm never going to stop exercising that right.

An entire party can definitely be labelled as hateful, and the modern Republican Party certainly seems to qualify. I'm not American though, and I don't really care about American politics, I was just explaining the example to you because you seemed to really be struggling.
