Twitter = 2 billion ppl trying to be famous and clever in two sentences. Kill me.

Literally what makes you think a car company CEO can save a social media company other than the fact that he’s rich?

I’ll never understand the blind loyalty to Elon Musk.
I’ll never understand why people brand him a car company CEO. He has his faults but that’s like calling apple a battery company.

Elon has fingers in bio robotics, is the largest name in space flight, a worldwide internet company, solar, tunneling, electric vehicles (not just cars) etc etc. this guy isn’t just some car CEO. He’s someone that thinks completely differently than the rest of us. Some like that, some are afraid of that.

I personally welcome the outside the box thinking - even if I don’t always agree with it.

Hypocricy: No matter your political opinions, you have to at at least agree that its mostly conservatives being banned

1. We have no way to actually know the truth there. I know that many conservatives make a big noise about it though, for sure. Real data on it either way is only in Twitters hands.

2. If folks run afoul of the TOS, they should be banned, irrespective of what their political leanings are.

3. Prominent figures always have had different rules. I don't know how to handle those users. It's tough for a company as there are good arguments on both sides.

Just a reminder that less content moderation ≠ more free speech.

It just means that the speech of the vulnerable, the harassed, and the targets of hate speech will be silenced, or at least chilled

Elon has a long hill to climb to prove that he now cares about the fair, but perhaps not favorable, views of everyone, particularly as they relate to him and his companies personally.
Totally disagree. There are better ways to control calls for violence and harassment. Time outs, banning posts and not individuals, etc.

Just a reminder that there are still laws to deal with content. But never fear, Ayatollah Khomeini will still be able to spout hate as has always been allowed.

Now do The Washington Post.

There's the problem..

How do you know if a news story is fraudulent content or not?
If a story is totally BS, it shouldn't be shared to zillions of people, right?

Who decides?

See how fast this gets messy?

(not poking at you by the way --- just highlight how hard this really actually is)
Well for one the profession of journalism itself can reign in the BS that is click bait, "I'm first", narrative driven, work back from what our viewers want to hear and craft a story based on the conclusion we want vs. fact driven/unbiased profession it used to be. Journalism was once a "working mans" profession. They weren't political elites making millions of dollars..

There used to be a standard to have more than one source and that source gets verified and corroborated or the story doesn't run. The media wonders why they have next to no credibility? They repeatedly shoot themselves in the face, but if the ends justify the means and it gets their readers frothy then credibility takes a back seat.

Maybe, just maybe, these outlets get told to clean up their act or they'll have their accounts suspended until they figure out how to. Anyone (esp journalists) Doxing others should be automatically banned.

Give me a break. It’s conservatives who have been censored on Twitter and all over democrat-run social media.

Everything went online starting in the 2000s, including the biggest opportunities for expression. But the tools for that expression have been run exclusively by leftwing, progressive nuts, who have actively tried to suppress any viewpoint they strongly disagree with or that might hurt their chances of seeing their political candidates win elections. That’s why Twitter suppressed the truthful story about Hunter Biden’s laptop. And why Facebook wouldn’t let anyone say anything in defense of Kyle Rittenhouse before the trial (though they were allowed to disparage him). And why Social media was rife with posts constantly undermining Trumps legitimate election with ridiculous talk about him being a Russian agent but Trump couldn’t suggest the 2020 election was illegitimate. Meanwhile rising stars of the Democratic Party like Stacey Abrams speak freely about losing due to election fraud and refuse to concede.

In other words, you can say it if it benefits progressives. You can’t say it if it harms their narratives.

Here’s how it should go: Everyone gets to speak as long as it’s not threatening violence or openly encouraging it. And no, words that upset you are not violence. If you don’t like the words, don’t read them.

I hope Musk cleans all that up pronto.

Tell that to some of the women who've been run right off the platform by endless armies of disgusting behavior..

(among many examples)

If anything, what I see is folks not understanding just how freaking awful Twitter was at one point for many people and how much better it got over the last few years.

Reverting on any of that (if that's part of any plan here) is ... awful

As a user since 2008, I plan to remain for now and see how it goes...
..but I'm highly skeptical based upon Elon's often childish and petty conduct over the years.

The proof will be in the pudding
The proof will not be in the pudding, it will be where it always has been - in the eating.

The thing is he has to comply with Apple & Google's terms or Twitter leaves the app stores like Parler and Gab and the rest and there goes his investment. He can't just let anything go without moderation of misinformation and other dangerous topics.

Apple and Google (and Amazon as Twitter uses AWS in their backend) have the real control. You can bet Bezos would absolutely love to kick an Elon-owned Twitter off his servers.

And then there's China and other countries who will demand censorship of certain things and Elon will have to agree or face consequences for himself or his other companies.

Doubt he brings back Trump for those same reasons. The last thing he wants is for Twitter to be considered a niche right-wing service. That will lead to the celebrities leaving and their followers will go with them. Twitter isn't the only major social network. And like it or not, Twitter is celebrity-driven. Nobody cares about you and your 47 followers.
