I agree. I just would like the rules to be clear, concise, and known when it comes to posting.

As for Elon having his own platform, tough to do. In the global scheme of things, Twitter is predominately US and if I remember correctly is like #4 and about to be overtaken by TikTok. It would take Elon years to get that starting new.

But the age demographics are in Elon's purchasing wheelhouse.

I'm all for reform of Twitter

Elon "buying it" and just imposing what he wants, however, isn't my favorite way to get there.

He needs to be talking in terms of legislative boards and groups of diverse people becoming decision makers.
It needs more voices shaping things, not less.

And - ultimately I really believe there is no pleasing everyone here.

Some people just want to act like complete ******s and have no repercussions for it.
That's not in the interest of many platforms, nor their other users.

Maybe, just maybe...we've finally hit the point of 'Peak Elon'

Unless he finds a way to exit some of this ego-maniacal ********* gracefully, history won't be kind to him.

Bill Gates almost...ALMOST...pulled it off. Elon is sitting on a much higher perch.

Visionary or not...the man needs people in his life telling him "no".
Will the scandal be called Elongate?

Elon Musk, founder and CEO of Tesla, has offered to purchase all of Twitter for $54.20 per share, valuing the company at $43 billion, in a letter to the social media company's chairman of the board, Bret Taylor.

In a letter filed with the SEC, Musk says that following his purchase of 9.1% of the company earlier in the month, he is "offering to buy 100% of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash." Musk purchased nearly 10% of the social media giant and was set to become a member of its board, but due to unknown reasons, Musk pulled out.

Musk in the letter goes on to state that Twitter has "extraordinary potential" that he will unlock. Since making his earlier investment in the company, Musk wrote that he has realized "the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form," adding "Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company."

"My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder," Musk concludes. Musk in the last several months has been a vocal critic of Twitter on the platform, calling into question its policies and at one point seemingly contemplating whether a new, competing social media platform would need to be made.

Update: In a statement, Twitter has confirmed it has received Musk's offer and will "carefully review the proposal to determine the course of action that it believes is in the best interest of the Company and all Twitter stockholders."

Let the REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEs flow 😂

For the good of mankind Twitter needs to be shut down. A lot of idiots pretending as intellectuals shape public opinion to divide our societies.
And the worst of them is the richest person alive and has made an offer to buy Twitter...

Visionary or not...the man needs people in his life telling him "no".
People that tell innovative people “no” are those people that probably aren’t that innovative.

Someone that says “how can we?” would be better. Or maybe someone like a person who took an electric car company to heights those “no” people never would, or that one guy who started a Space company cuz he doesn’t give a **** that other people have said “no” or “can’t” to reducing the launch cost by a factor of 10, thus making our ability to be a spacefaring civ a better possibility.

People that create VALUE for humanity might be different from you (there’s that diversity thing people keep forgetting applies to ALL people), but … they get. ****. Done. “No” people are insufferable “no”body’s - literally.

Absolute ego play or possibly a way for him to position himself for an office run in the coming years. Owning one of the largest social media platforms would do wonders for a run towards the presidency.

edit: never mind, as he was born in RSA.
It could be a platform to push for an amendment to allow him to run
Yep, a true con artist. It's not like millions of Tesla's are being produced and SpaceX is ferrying crew and cargo to the ISS and are the only company that lands and re-uses boosters.
You say that as though those are mutually exclusive.

I am not a part of either political party in the U.S. However, there is definitely anecdotal evidence that Twitter and other social media platforms have suspended and banned people for political opinions/ideas. This is wrong and bad for society no matter what side is being banned Or suspended. The problem here is that Twitter has never embraced a philosophy of who they are. Are they the public town square, or are they a company to disseminate news and information, or what are they? They want it both ways: They want to be and open forum for everybody while still maintaining tight control over the speech on the platform. That just doesn’t work. If Musk is successful I hope that Twitter can truly embrace free speech and stop with the namby pamby excuses for its banning of some information and people while others are allowed.
The hundred thousand laws against unlimited free speech have worked pretty well so far.

Even better, he could use $43B to actually do some good in the world. End world hunger, end homelessness, build free universities across the world with progressive science and technology programs, the opportunities are endless. But no, he would like to control the narrative so he accumulates more power and money (what it's all about for Musk). No knock on your post either, btw.
Every billion is approximately 540 average American's LIFETIME earnings. He will do what he always does and manipulate the narrative to make it look like he is doing something great or beneficial when he is just doing what he has to do (see his: "should I exercise my options and pay taxes on them before they expire?" garbage from a short while back).

I have used Elon Musk's manic depressive cycles as a cue to short the stuffing out of TSLA. If you are not already doing this, take a look at TSLA's stock performance when Elon has acted out in this way. Its easy money, and it feels good.

In all likelihood this is just a scheme to manipulate the value of his existing shares so he can dump them at a profit.

Remember when "Tesla was going to accept payment in Bitcoin", and then all the "to the moon" or whatever tweets? Followed by him summarily dumping all of his bitcoin, i.e. the textbook pump and dump.

He will do it and get away with it and millions on the internet will fall over themselves to defend his honor.

Also, lets be clear: Elon, nor anyone else for that matter, cares about "freedom of speech." They only really care about the freedom of their own speech.

Buying it for 54.20 a share?
5 4.20?
Musk is always trolling marijuana inferences and besides in his SEC offer there is a clause where he can back out or change the conditions of a sale at any time.

He's TROLLING and people are lapping it up.
This is a brilliant take on your part and an interesting breakdown that actually makes sense. And the fact of the matter is, (even though I’m a Tesla-Musk supporter/enthusiast), you’re right, he does troll and he’s very keen and divisive on how he trolls. One could learn from him.

I look at the East, I see horror.
I look towards the West, and I see this...
Then I look at my children and I feel powerless to help and I feel so sorry for the world they will have to live in.

The most insane and ridiculously useless issues of humanity since the beginning of times, repeat in new & old manners.
There are times when you realize the internet was growing too fast.
If you’re worried about your kids, then teach them the lesson you just laid out here: all of this is garbage, focus on what‘s truly important and don’t let the fads of the day consume you.

I hope Elon does take it over and overhaul things. Their approach towards third party apps is adversarial, rather than embracing vendors who support their platform they limit and restrict them.

It’d actually be nice to see something entirely new that not only competes with but also offers an alternative to Facebook too as how many wouldn’t jump at that option.
There has always been a mismatch between twitters influence , user base, and revenue. If the company had been able to monetize the way other social networks have in the last 10 years it would be too big for Elon to make a bid like this. That's the financial reason behind the bid. If You believe you can solve the moneitizaion problem and reipo the company in a few years it'll be worth far more and stand to make you tons of money

It's in line with the rest of big tech. It's a market wide sell off
