The rare times when I log into Twitter to see an important update from a company or brand, I always end up getting exposed to dangerous levels of toxicity and stupidity. So my personal opinion is to shut most social media sites down. Let people have conversations in their private family, work or interest groups.
I agree in many ways. But shut-ing it down are not happening, we all know that.
I said to a friend recently: in the early age of internet, the smart people was online, now it's the stupid ranting sh** that are occupying most of social media.

You can't prevent people from being stupid. They are allowed to live and grow too. I have found this an important lesson when we evolve ourself. Conscious choices how to handle the on-line life and its toxicity is an important part of mental integrity and growth.

Absolute ego play or possibly a way for him to position himself for an office run in the coming years. Owning one of the largest social media platforms would do wonders for a run towards the presidency.

edit: never mind, as he was born in RSA.

“I want to buy Twitter ’cuz Justin Bieber doesn’t post any more”

Seems completely logical

Can you teach me or point me where to find those lessons in self control? I always get sucked in but have got a bit of handle now because I no more post anything now and even when I do I try not to light a fire.

does this human know that ad guard will work well with blocking twitter ads?
oh well, it's his plie of money.

Twitter should have sections like newspapers did
-news
-local
-sports
-science
-entertainment
-CARTOONS!

If we were to believe Elon, and surely he is right about Twitter having a lot of potential and being long term undervalued at $43 billion, then why would any current stakeholder want to give up 100% of their shares? Makes more sense to hang onto your stake if Twitter could be worth $100 billion in 10 years time. Makes more sense to buy Elon's 9.1% off him at $54 a share.

I cannot imagine Musk is liquid for that amount. Im curious what his actual proposal is or who is making the purchase. Is he selling stock so he will be liquid for that amount or is he offering a combo of his companies stock?

This seems like BS on many levels. He's doing a good job at an out in the open pump and dumb though.

Maybe, just maybe...we've finally hit the point of 'Peak Elon'

Unless he finds a way to exit some of this ego-maniacal ********* gracefully, history won't be kind to him.

Bill Gates almost...ALMOST...pulled it off. Elon is sitting on a much higher perch.

Visionary or not...the man needs people in his life telling him "no".
He's the richest man in the world... he didn't get there by being told no.

Might be easier to start from scratch. Would have to purge a lot of employees or most likely they would quit. Also purge all the bot accounts. Other platforms are working on that.

Starting from zero would be a huge mistake, guaranteed failure. As for the employees, given the state of the platform, many would be fired regardless.

The last thing Twitter, and the free world, needs is a deplorable manchild in charge of the narrative. He should go back to 4chan with the rest of his cult.

Personally I think if Elon bought Twitter and Facebook then drove them into the ground, the world would be a better place.
You cannot unthink a though. Even if Musk did that, it would take weeks for replacements to pop up. All he would have achieved is burn unprecedented amounts of money. And Musk isn't an idiot - he's a con artist. So somehow he thinks he'll make a buck out of this. And he probably will.

Social media is here, and it's here to stay, and no Elon or Batman will change anything about that. Now society has to figure out how to actually incorporate it without tearing itself asunder. Censorship - of any kind - is no sustainable way. No censorship of any kind is also no solution, that's 4chan. I have no answer to this conundrum, and I believe nobody has, except that maybe a society has to be so rigid to suffer through the noise and unpleasantness that most people are idiots in one way or another, while having rules enough people can agree upon what is absolutely beyond "personal opinion". But most certainly Musk will not magically save society from itself buy making a high stake, high publicity play for Twitter.
