So if you get abuse off some loon, you won't be able to block them?
This guy is an absolute W ⚓️ for thinking of introducing this option.

Sure am glad I have never got involved with any of these parasite web groups. They all have as their first demand access to my contacts. A huge NO.

I don't use Twitter either, I created an account just as a placeholder for my business... and recently learnt that that isn't even guaranteed, they can take your @Handle at any time.

With that said, you don't have to provide access to your contacts to use the app, you can deny it. And you can also use the mobile website and avoid the app if that helps you. I simply stay away from it as the UI/UX is also confusing.

I see a lot of rage but I don’t understand the issue.

Once you mute someone they are gone from your Twitter. They don’t exist to you. So if someone is annoying you or harassing you - mute and they disappear. Boom. Done.

Why is it important to have block which just stops someone from seeing your tweets. The important thing is that people don’t get harassed, right
They can still read YOUR Twitter and still follow you and respond to your tweets.

Imagine an abusive ex who's stalking you, obsessing over everything you post, and calling you horrible names under every tweet you write. You can mute them and not see what they write, but they can still keep tabs on you and write stuff that everyone who reads your tweets can still see.

Block actually makes it impossible for the blocked person to follow you or see your tweets. Mute only prevents you from seeing their tweets.

This just further pushes Twitter into 4Chan territory where you really don't want to use your real name or post anything important or interesting.

He's...I guess you can say he's a joke now. He spent 44 billion because of his ego to platform his neo-fascist, libertarian 'views'. I'm not sure he's ever done anything to deserve his money (he bought Tesla) , but of course we are supposed to celebrate people getting rich for little reason. We celebrate it even more if they inherit from family. Not unlike feudal Europe were the Lord's and Barrons were chosen by God and well, the rest of you can eat dirt. He's definitely a fun buffoon to watch.

Twitter no longer exists. I have seen some news sites referring to as X (fka Twitter) which seems to be the best approach.
Personally, I think it's good that some media outlets seem to be refusing to refer to it as anything other than Twitter, often out of spite I imagine. Anything to annoy Elon gets a big thumbs up from me.

Have you considered that harassment can extend beyond the platform and information from your account can be used maliciously outside of twitter? It's not just about them disappearing to YOU. Sometimes, for your own safety, you need to disappear from THEM.
HERE is an IDEA....dont post on a public social platform.

I dont use twitter but I thought for 15 seconds and this is what I figured out regarding blocking someone...

You block me so I cannot see you. You continue to post on a public platform. I sign up 15 seconds later and am reading your tweets again....

Twitter is social media. It's largely public. Unless your account is set up so you curate all people then mute and block work mostly the same in practice.

He certainly replied to someone asking what the difference between them is with this asinine change… but the difference is quite tangible. It’s the difference between preventing someone from stalking you, and merely plugging your ears so you don’t hear their footsteps.
No it's not. To prevent someone from stalking you, get off public social media. Unless only your friends can follow you (whattsapp) block does not deter stalking.

I read this as Twitter has to have tools for blocking abusive users, not that those tools need to be given to other users. So quite possible Twitter can remove blocking as long as it has a way to remove bad actors.
As someone who has worked at Twitter and submitted other messaging apps to the App Store, Apple does deny the app if the user cannot initiate an immediate block of another user
