I am extremely pleased that he is not going forward with it, there are plenty of extremely right wing people owning media.
This is what partisan hackery looks like. People on the right and left own media companies. Seeing only one side of them is crazy. And Musk being on the right? Like most non partisans his opinions are complicated and he is not easily categorized as right or left.

Only problem with that is he can’t “drop” the deal. He’s on the hook for the whole $44B
Yes and no. If it goes to court, it might be settled at a lower price, such as the case with the Louis Vuitton/Tiffany merger.

It's really funny that a few years ago when Musk was saving the planet from another warming cycle, you all loved him. Now he sticks up for a few people on the right who have been banned from twitter and says he may vote republican, he is the biggest dolt on the planet, and his cars are crap.
He was not saving anything from anything. He is PT Barnum at best, or maybe the monorail salesman from The Simpsons.

So if Twitter sues Musk to "enforce" the agreement... and that agreement was Musk buying Twitter... then that means an extremely bitter Musk will end up owning Twitter.

I thought it was crazy that Musk wanted to own Twitter in the first place. My first thought was "what will he do with it?"

But I'm not sure it's a good idea to "force" Musk to own Twitter if he doesn't want it.

He could shut Twitter down just for spite!
It shows how greedy the twitter board are, lusting over the money.

Don’t be surprised if this ends with biometric Digital ID as a necessary credential with which to log into and use Twitter. The story has been building in typical fashion.

The board has a fiduciary duty to the shareholders to get as much as they can on their behalf. It's not their fault that Musk decided to be an idiot.

Not sure I accept the analogy. This man is talking about accepting bankruptcy and worse, the dissolution of his empire, specially for the greater good of the world.

Let’s not get confused. I’m not saying he’s Jesus. But I think calling him “the worst” is highly irrational.
I'm not saying he is the worst. I'm just saying the faux-altruism he has been bestowed with in his supporters' eyes is less deserved than the sum of his actual deeds suggests. All of his businesses are designed to maximize valuation for his stock holdings in a relatively short amount of times while simultaneously stunting their ability to actually function at a level that would justify their extreme valuations. Everything he says and does are a means to give the impression of a substantially higher valuation than is reflected in reality. I'm not saying his businesses aren't good and don't deliver decent products or services, I'm just saying they have been massaged to look like they can deliver future growth and revenue that his current cap table will never make possible.

Not surprised st all, was he serious about this in the first place I alwayas wondered.

There is something good that's come from this though. Musk truly exposed the extreme left wing bias running the company that favors censoring opinion it doesn't like.

Banning lying and purposeful disinformation (which was used to falsely vilify the left) is not censorship. And let's not forget all the flase information spread about covid vaccines - lies that cost lives.

I would also add that Musk has on seveeral occasions asked Chinese censors to block anti-Tesla comments on Chinese social media. Musk has quite the history of banning speech he doesn't like. E.g., all the people he fired at SpaceX for complaining recently in an open letter about his behavior damaging the company.
