Don't like eMacs? Don't buy one!

Honestly, I've never understood why people who don't prefer eMacs just don't leave the rest of us alone. I know when I updated my school's Mac lab it was either eMacs or no more Macs at all. Think about that a minute before dissing these computers. For the money they are simply the best computer for the K-12 market, certainly much tougher than the Dell products many schools (including mine) buy. In one year, not a single eMac out of twelve in our lab has needed to be rebooted. Meanwhile, the Dells suffer wobbly video cards, failing 3.5" floppy drives (even though no one uses these anymore and in fact they have been disabled by the BIOS set-up screen) cheap plastic pieces falling off, and worst of all seriously restricted access to the Internet and certain capabilities and applications due to the threat of viruses. I would be very upset if Apple discontinued the eMac for education without replacing it with a product in the same price range... not the Mac Mini. I need monitors and keyboards with my computers.

colouring

does ne1 know why the emac went from all the nice colours it had, wheich made it look pretty cool, to just being *****e white

WHY?

ne way the mini mac is great, small compact, and your not restricted to what you use with it,

the imac is basicly the same as the emac but with an lcd screen.

crts are loosing there touch,

any way if you had a eMac with a piss poor tube, that collapsed youve lost a whole computer, with a mac mini, get a new monitor, wih a dvi out it can plug into any digital source, get the bluetooth and airport like me and your laughing. al you need is a mains socket. if you had a lcd screen in your car , get a power inverter and connect it to your car, it will hide under a seat and if you have 1 of these fancy people cariers then theres more space then pandoras box to fit one in.

1 last good point about the mini, if you need to ajust anythig its easy, putty knifes and away you go.

BULLOCKS. You can get a 17" CRT with a bag of chips. The mini is very good value for money, although they are trimming edges on the entry mini.

First of all, what does a castrated bull have to do with anything? 😛 😎

Secondly, all I was referring to was that some people may look at the price tag and not realize that it does not include a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. I think the mini itself is a fine little machine. 😎

I was referring to people venting their anger for the dissappearance of the emac on the mini 😱 😀

But really for 1/2 the price of the imac, say 600 versus 1200 (imac 20" - 500 for the 20" monitor) you get 2/3s of the performance (1.42 vs 2.1, G4 vs G5 compare roughly clock for clock). Now don't ya'll go nitpicking on me 😛

Besides, you can hit the emac incidently and when it falls from your desk your computer will be total-loss. Now, you can throw a mini from your window and it will have a few scratches, the most. Worst case scenario: someones head gets crushed during the experiment (science is never without risk)

Yep, good points - I agree. 🙂

And yeah, I was just being a bastard with my first comment, don't mind me... 😉 😎

iMac G3 was multi-colored, eMac is not. The eMac never changed colors, really.

iMac=G5, LCD, $$$
eMac=G4, CRT, $
Way not the same.

The eMac's CRT technology is very well understood. There are fewer dead CRTs than dead pixels. Also, the input for the eMac is digital, like all of Apple's computers have been for a number of years now.
The eMac does support Airport and Bluetooth, but unlike the Mini, they can be added later. And if you have an LCD screen in your car, you want the best tool for the job which is the Mini. The eMac is the best tool for other jobs, such as at-home computer or classroom computer.

How about grabbin' a screwdriver and not worrying about scratching the Mini? The eMac is really quite easy to upgrade. Just be careful of the CRT discharge. If you wait ~24 then the energy dissipates and it is safer... something the Mini wins on.

However, the eMac is designed for a different purpose than the Mini. Once we understand that, we will have a much easier time realizing that the eMac is the budget computer for schools and the Mini the budget computer for home. There, said and done.

No offense man but you seriously need to learn how to spell, it's painful reading your posts.

As long as it remains available by the educational market

I have two sisters who are teachers who could buy it for me.

I think the eMac will see at least 2 more upgrades . Possibbly a 1.6 GHZ G5 model . If the iMac went dual-core G5 in 6 months from now, the eMac could get the fastest single-core G5 ( 2.7 GHZ ? ) before switching to Mactell. The Mac Mini is good for longtime Mac users . They could use their old usb keyboards and mice with it and buy whatever monitor they can get with it. Many HDTVs have the necessary ports to hookup to the Mac Mini. The Mac Mini will never have the dual-core G5 inside. Dual-core Mactel Minis might become available around 2007. Single-core chips should be left to die in 2 years.

I got mine!

I just ordered one of the last models from Mac Mall. I ordered the one with the Super-Drive. This will replace my 500MHz iMac G3. As was previously mentioned, I sure don't want one of the first intel macs. I have a good deal of Software for OS X and PPC. Now, I'll have something to last me a good while more, and hopefully, Apple will have this whole mess running well by that time!

look if you work in sales then you will realise that the odd mistake makes people notice, and in the amount i have written allows me to make more mistakes thus equaling you read it more thuroughly 😛 to make sure that i have or have not made mistakes (all this is being done subconsusly 😛 whilst you tut at my child like spelling.

the other thing is have you never heard of dyslexia?

it allows the brain to suffer in small things like typing mistakes and number alteration, BUT you improve in oter areas which are much more important

and for that im glad i am dyslexic. 😛

eMac is for schools only!

Actually, the only way to get an eMac now is with a purchase order from a school/university. I guess it's possible to buy one from a school the next time the have one up for auction.

The eMac is gone from the "education individual" storefront too....

I loved my eMac, it's was great and the CRT was beautiful with great saturated colors. I won't deny it was outdated, but it was still a deal. I'd rather have a great CRT than an LCD with dead pixels. Believe me, i purchased a new 20" Apple Display for my powerbook and it has 2 dead pixels. What a b**ch! I now have to look at the dead pixels on the bottom right corner of the LCD. Don't get me wrong, I love LCD, but i can't help but feel dissapointed deep, deep insde.

We have eMacs at my school in the graphics lab, I think they are perfect for their purpose. They run the Adobe apps great and have yet to let us down. Kind of disappointed to see it go, my brother was thinking about getting one.

two eMacs fail

I bought 2 eMacs at the same time a number apart. one for me and one for my girl friend . .I shut mine off one day and it never came back on . I ran all the test to confirm that it was the analog display ( which is really 15 components welded together) I' m sure it's just the power supply_ it was just over a year old .
so then I jacked my girl friends eMac that was hardly used, and within 6 months i put it to sleep one day and it didn't wake up, it's not totally dead like the first one it's just totally useless . mean while my old g3 still works and my friends 1999 g4 tower runs fine, I will probably up grade the processor wile waiting for the Intel stuff . It seems that the pre iPod stuff was more reliable , maybe it's just my imagination .

Don't feed the troll guys. 1 post, and it is this one. Hmm. Makes you wonder. Anyway, just read my 'tar and you will be safe. Also, just registered today. This post is pure crap.

I wonder when Jobs will make the formal announcement that the eMac is discontinued? Perhaps at the same time he formally announced the new Mac mini? 😱 😉
