lol he thought he could get away with not activating the phone and only getting it for 200. Another one bites the dust
what do you mean get away?
The phone was paid for, the contract renewed and paid- nothing had been gotten away with....I dont think there is a requirement to use equipment that you purchased.

I returned a black iPhone 5 and bought a new white iPhone 5 and activated it weeks ago but I got this email too. Do I need to worry about them activating the returned phone?

He agreed to a new contract when he got the phone. It has obviously been at least a few days since he bought it since they think he Won't activate it. So yes there is a requirement

That's silly. Apple doesn't care whether you use the phone now or never, nor could they "require" you to use their product, if you own it. Apple (and the carrier) have two goals in mind: they want to receive income from the service contract and they want to minimize theft. The auto-generated letter is supposed to help.

I got the same email from apple and called them back right away because the unactivated phone in question was stolen by the UPS driver and was never in my possession. I've already gotten a replacement phone and have since activated that phone. But apple thinks my stolen phone is still unactivated and in my possession. I've already called apple about this and have forwarded the email to one of their managers informing him DO NOT ACTIVATE THAT PHONE because it is a stolen phone. But 2 days later, I received another automatic activation email saying that it will activate my phone in 5 days. WTF??? why can't apple put a notation in their records that this phone was reported as stolen. Looks like I will have to call them again tomorrow and get this straightened out.

How do you know your phone was stolen by the ups driver?

The carrier cares, to them you just cheated them out of $400. So legally they can and WILL activate your phone if you don't do it yourself in a few days.

the account is tied to the SIM it comes with and will get the activation screen. however i think if the person takes the SIM out and gets their own, the screen will not appear.
