Apple clearly stated that pre-orders began on 4/10 at 12:01 am PDT. 1 million people stayed up late or set an alarm and successfully ordered a watch. It really wasn't that difficult to do. So humorous that a few whiners have to complain to daddy because they are upset with the process that 1 million other people had no problem understanding. And its not like this was a one shot deal. Apple is going to make millions and millions of these watches. Everyone who wants one will eventually get one. Your life will continue if you don't get it on day one! #FirstWorldProblems

I think a major sentiment that should have been covered is the fact that even users who pre-ordered within seconds of launch are receiving dates of 4/24 to 5/8. They should update their launch date to be 4/24 - 5/8. I know its a bit cynical but at what point do you consider a product launched? The day that 50 people can order/buy it?

What, exactly, are you hoping to accomplish? Cook writes you back and says 'Gee, you are right, we will release on the 24th'.

Some of you people need to get ahold of yourselves and join us back here on planet Earth. Yes, Apple flubbed on the launch. Yes, it is a bit annoying. But are you so inconvenienced that you seek the attention of a CEO of a muti-billion dollar company to hear your cries?

Yup, I agree. This is Apple's product launch for them to manage however they see fit. I see no justification in writing to the CEO about this.

Why can't people just talk in normal English, instead of speaking in corporate buzzword-ese? "Reached out"? Ah, you mean "contacted them".

It's a shortcut to trying to sound intelligent, but had the opposite effect.

As long as some folks get in on the 24th, it can be considered launched.

It's a hard knock life, for us...

Get a grip, honestly.

Andrew, when will your book be available on the iBook store and kindle store? I'll read a paragraph a day, and give you my review in a month or so.

I think you wasted your time. Cook is not jobs you have no chance of a reply

I got a reply when I emailed Tim Cook last year on a different matter, though not from Tim Cook himself. Instead, my reply came from the guy in charge of the thing I was complaining about. And the next iteration of that thing saw some fairly major changes which resolved my complaints.

I respectfully suggest that you condense your thoughts into a succinct paragraph next time. No one there will take the time to truly read such a long email.

Maybe something like:

Dear Tim,

I'm confused about the launch of the Apple Watch. Will there be any retail stock on the 24th, or is that simply the delivery date of the initial pre-orders?

Thanks for any clarification and congratulations on a successful pre-order.

Andrew

Agreed! Best response so far

Good job Andrew Turko I really do believe Apple listens and responds to e-mails seriously. Back when the iPhone 5 came out and was coming to customers scratched out of the box I emailed Apple executives and they promptly contacted me to fix the issue. Then a week later MacRumors reported Apple was improving quality control on the iPhone 5.

Really?

With all due respect, are you just trying to be difficult for difficult's sake? Every point you've made has been clearly outlined, and communicated by Apple well in advanced of the pre-order time on April 10. You might not like the message, but, to claim confusion, is, ah, confusing.

My question would be if there are not going to be any actual :apple:watches in store on "launch day," then what is the purpose of waiting to ship the preorders they do have? Shouldn't they just ship them as they are available if that is the case (meaning they should start showing up at people's houses any day now)? Again, as several have already said #firstworldproblems. I'm just trying to add some other thoughts to the table. Luckily I was able to order right away, so hopefully I'll see all of the replies hit my email on my :apple:watch on the 24th :D

Translation. You didn't make enough and I'm mad that since I had a problem getting my preorder in in time to make the initial shipments, I would now prefer to wait in line like people do for iPhones except that since you didn't make enough yet I can't do that either.

I want it when I want it and I'm upset that I'll have to wait longer than I thought I would. Waaaaa.

That about sum it up. Ever hear of Cabbage Patch Dolls, Tickle Me Elmo, Playstation 3 or other game console releases. This is how it goes sometimes. I do think you need to get over yourself.

As for your they didn't inform us well enough, here's what you can do. Stop worrying about your spilled milk, order the option you want if you haven't already, and get on with your regular life until you get your watch.

Then, and this is really important, keep getting on with your regular life after you get it, because I see a) you are going to be so consumed using this thing it will suck up more of your time 'managing' your life, and b) it's not going to change your life.

I do apologize for the editorialized commentary on you as it pertains to society and gadget OCD, but I think a lot of people really need to step back a second and get some perspective. "somewhat worried Apple fan." What was there a shooting on the Cupertino campus, or something else that should have Apple fans actually worried and concerned.

Translation: I didn't understand what you were trying to say so I'm gonna make fun of you.

Back on topic. Has Apple ever launched a new product online only? I'm with Andrew on this one. It seems stupid for me to launch a product online only and not in store, this is not kickstarter, this is Apple we are talking about and the decision was obviously made by Angela, a bad one in my opinion. People love to wait in line for a new product, it builds up hype and gets everyone's attention.

I think that's what they're doing, they won't have enough to ship until the 24th.

Long Emails

Andrew

I personally see nothing wrong with your email length.

I share you concern about the product not being in the stores, as I almost didn't order online because I have never been able to get through. I was able to this time but I was lucky.

I had ASSUMED that I would be able to get it on launch day in the store, even though I didn't know how they would carry so many choices. I was sure it would be available for those of us who do like to camp out. (and btw I have a life, a serious one, and if I think this is fun that's my call I'm not sure why people hate on that).

I am more concerned with people who see a "long" post or email and decide that they have no time or patience to read it. Some things can not be expressed in 150 characters. Get a life, stop hating on Apple fangirl/boys and read more.

also there is a way businesses speak, there is a jargon that is used in every industry so using that helps get your point across. Do you all really think that in business they don't have long emails or reports?

Lmaoo "you're wasting your time", they actually replied to him and he made it to MR front page! Great job

While I agree with many of the points made regarding the launch, I will be annoyed if Apple decides to shift stock from preorders to retail stock if it results in preorders being delayed. If Apple does this, you'll end up with a large percentage of people with online pre-orders standing in line to get a watch, only to either 1/ cancel their online order, or 2/ keep their online order and sell it to a friend or worse eBay for a profit, etc.

It won't solve the problem, it will only shift it, and honestly make it worse.

My suggestion is Apple have a coupon ready to hand to customers who mistakenly show up on the 24th expecting to be able to buy a watch for a discount on an online order.

Just put signs up in stores and a notice on the website explaining that there won't be stock available in-store for purchase on the 24th. Since this is a departure from the way things have been done before, I agree that it's a good idea to clarify.

you mean tell people who are used to camping on the 23rd so they don't stay out overnnight.

I don't necessarily expect Tim to reply, I know it's read by one of his receptionists. I'm just asking for clarity, because I don't believe we've yet been given any official response as to whether or not it will be available in retail stores on launch day. Apple has a near perfect customer service track record, so I don't think it's asking much from a company that should definitely have the answers straight from the get go.

Hey everyone. As someone who has connections at Apple corporate, I know for a fact that emails addressed to Tim Cook actually do get read by him and are escalated to the appropriate team manager if needed. There's a reason the man is up at 4 in the morning and doesn't leave until well past 8 or 9 p.m.
