I think you wasted your time. Cook is not jobs you have no chance of a reply

I very rarely if ever post much but, I can say that for a fact that you can get an answer from Tim Cook, or at least his email. I had a severe problem a couple years back with Verizon and a phone upgrade (won't get into specifics, unless asked) so I sent a SHORT email to Tim's email address explaining my problem. The next day I received a reply and a offer to forward my concerns to a Verizon exec. I obviously said yes, and thanked him for the reply. About 3 hours later I received a call from a Verizon corporate sales exec apologizing for the problem and he let me know my iPhone would ship within the hour and overnight. I had it the next day as promised. So while he may not be Steve, he is listening, well someone is anyway. I will also say that sending it from my work email, a government military address, probably helped!

If even just a few people get their Watches on the 24th, then it's Launch Day. At some point Apple has a choice to make; launch with limited supplies or continue to wait while the fires die down. Honestly, I think it's too early to be complaining about the Launch Day deliveries when the 24th is still nearly two weeks away.

So are e-retailers incapable of ever having a product "launch day" because they have no shelves to stock? It's too early to be predicting doom and gloom for the 24th.

In my humble opinion, a launch would mean they set aside products to purchase in store come the 24th. Sure, if Apple were exclusively an e-retailer that'd make a bit of sense, but the fact is that they have more than 450 retail stores, of which most likely none will be receiving the product on launch day.

Being one of the millions that watched the TV spot on the Apple Watch flash with "04.24.15" at the end, I'd assume I could lineup at the store and purchase one then. Am I wrong to assume that? I don't particularly think so.

Your letter makes you come across as someone who thinks they deserve some kind of special treatment that everyone else didn't get. If I had to summarize it I'd say that you didn't preorder in time to get it on launch day and now you're upset that there isn't a way for you to circumvent the preorder queue. I have no idea how you came up with your definition of what a launch is, but this is a product launch, and it's happening on the 24th. Product is shipping to consumers on a first come first serve basis. It's utterly ridiculous to email the CEO of the most valuable company in the world to complain about the supply of a product. He knows there is more demand than supply, that it is back ordered for weeks, he doesn't need you telling him that.

I don't know how much if any it is a problem for the company, but it seems with the new system they will have a lot of cancelled orders. Many probably ordered their minimum of 2 prior to actually seeing and trying on the watch, planning to cancel one or possibly both orders after their appointment at the Apple store. If the watch is available to pre-order online for store pick up at launch 4/24 as I was told at the Apple store today, then those who are able to secure the watch that way will cancel their online order for shipment.

Take it easy on the OP of this thread - he's just passionate about this stuff like the rest of us. That's why we're all here. He just used a ton of words to say it. My emails get way - WAY shorter the older I get.

Haven't there been some references that Apple wants to get away from launch day lines for a number of reasons? It's turned into surrogate buyers queuing up for well to do buyers and creates more problems than the hype that surrounds the launch.

So I personally would just condense your email significantly. I emailed Cook regarding his op-ed in the Washington Post a few weeks ago and he suprisingly responded with a nice succinct thank you.

Duly noted that the email was long, no need to say it again. It was 4:30 in the morning when I first wrote it and I tend to go on about things at that time. :p

The point of this thread wasn't exactly to bash opinions, but more or less to expand on how the launch is being handled.

I think there are many questions that pertain to this topic, other than "Why the hell would you email this absurdly long letter to him?".

In the words of Louis C.K., how quickly the world owes us something we only knew existed a few months ago.

while i didn't get a reply from Tim himself, I emailed him to complain about how FCPX was terrible. The next day I got an email from someone very high up on the development team for FCPX...

I agree with some of what the OP said. I don't think it's a waste of email.

Launch means the day the product is available to be in people's hands. In this case the day the product is available to the public is when people start recording their orders. April 24th is the launch day regardless of whether or not product is available in store. It is possible all future major product launches will be this way. It allows more people to get the product they want on the day the product is first available. I personally support this plan. I have only ordered online from their store since the iPhone 5 launch and it's always been great.

I don't understand the sour grapes. Apple told me what to do, and I followed the instructions. Pre-orders online starting at 3 am on 4/10, for a 4/24 delivery. Set alarm for 2:50 am. Ordered from my iPhone in bed, rolled over and went back to sleep. Launch Day the 24th at my house...happy camper....no sleeping on the sidewalk for this gadget.

I already said this before, but since you seem to have missed my post, allow me to repeat.

I did the exact same thing you did, and I got a delivery date of May 13-27.

I hope you see the problem.

Jobs didn't reply to every email either. Tim might answer it, if he felt inclined. He has answered emails before.

The not getting a reply is more a factor of Tim being a little busy right now. And it's not Apple's style to explain themselves. Under Tim or Steve. Especially since we don't know that the 24th isn't going to happen. That's almost two full weeks away. All kinds of things can happen between now and then.

I think all input is good. I doubt that there will be a personal response, but Apple should know what people think

Same here, i was awake ready and placed my order at around 3:10 when the website allowed me to use my gift card (another problem imo with GCs) this is product that was first announced 8 months ago lol i doubt that a 700+ usd accessory was sold out in minutes nor seconds they just don't have many units available so why bother to hold a preorder, i would have prefer they just went straight to "not available" as soon they couldn't delivery any time soon.

Executive Response Update

I've added details about the response I received to the original, first post in this thread.

Thanks for updating and posting the response, especially considering the verbal beating you took for 3 pages.

Of course. I tend to filter out the noise anyway.

I thought it'd be appropriate to create this new thread regarding the reply as this thread became somewhat messy. Some interesting information came up that's worthy of new discussion.

Good for you. I believe in Apple and thought that your email was a good idea, and that although you may not get a Tim email, not surprised that it got someone's attention. Nicely done.
