Its a sad life to live in fear all of the time, do you wear a bullet proof vest outside also? I live life the way I want to, if a seat belt bothers me when I am going 1 mile away in town then I won't wear it. Its a risk assessment.

I don't agree with you not wearing a seatbelt, but if you don't want to wear one that's your prerogative. Your choice, your risk and everyone in this thread should stop beating up on him.

But I digress. Thanks rdowns for that video, it was a terrific ad.

Only if he signs a waiver that in the case of a debilitating/nonfatal accident, the rest of society will not have to pick of the tab of hospitalization and rehabilitation/chronic nursing home care. ;)

Click it or ticket. I believe in personal choice and having the freedom to manage risk in your own life, but the problem with seat belts is that in most US states it's the law. It's sad that people don't take the responsibility of driving seriously.

It is inarguably moronic not to wear a seat belt.

That said, it should be the choice of any adult as to whether they wear one or not.

When it comes to kids, that is another story. Hopefully if ZA has kids someday, the same low-speed/risk-assesment logic isn't employed.

No, like I said the only claim on my insurance is hail damage, I was a passenger in all my wrecks.

well that being said you were never ride in my car unless the belt is on. Policy for me is belted or no go. Both for safety of you and more importantly in a wreck I do not want you to go flying into me.

And in neither wearing a seat belt nor holding any form of health insurance, you are also catastrophically stupid.

Whatever you have to do to justify your own views. I hope this post empowered you to feel better about yourself today, I have a feeling you might get ran over by people quite a bit in regular life to have this kind of hostility pent up. :)

Besides a leg injury in football and a shoulder injury I am pretty much invincible.

Just out of curiosity ZA, would you have ever considered playing football without a helmet or pads? I don't mean being caught up in the moment and finishing a play after your helmet pops off, but taking the field at the beginning of the game with no safety or protective gear in place.

We played football without gear all the time (since you are from texas I would assume the same). I don't think people who play Rugby (for our european people) even wear pads do they?

^ I'm not a native Texan, but that's beside the point. Surely you are talking about backyard football with your friends or practice with light or no contact? I've never seen a school allow any player to take the field for a full contact game without the appropriate safety gear and I highly doubt you would consider such action to be in good judgement.

Through my previous job - I have seen ( and video documented for education ) injuries caused by car crashes that would have been prevented were seat belts worn. I promise you - it is not a smiling mater. infact, your attitude on this is not only unhealthy, it's frankly - sick.

That was their choice.

I actually agree with this, same with helmets for motorcycle riders. We SHOULD get rid of all helmet/seatbelt laws, but ONLY if the insurance companies don't have to cover injuries caused from not wearing seatbelts/helmets. This would lower my insurance premiums and help rid the world of people who don't understand how such simple devices can help them.

Great little video.

As for me, when I was younger (pre mandatory seatbelt laws) - I usually didn't wear one as a passenger, but did as a driver. Now it is second nature and I feel weird w/o one on. I also require my passenger to buckle up also before we depart.

Still, many of those I know, including myself, do not put on/require people to put on seatbelts in the backseats. Considering the obvious danger to the passengers in the back AND the front, I have no idea why this is...I would have to guess that having 3-4 people in the car is a relative rarity (it is for me).

Anyone else have the same experiences?
