I have got emails from people with them in and I have been able to see them on my iPad! Must be there somewhere!

They are... Apple just removed the dedicated emoji keyboard and embedded it within the normal Japanese keyboard, enabled by simply typing "emoji" each time you want to use them. Check out post #17.

Also notice how this post comes "after" my first response to ukyo229 before which no solution had been posted. 😛 (blindly my ass) LOL

I don't see any emojis on mine. I followed post #17 instructions and scrolling left/right does not show any for me. Did you ever try installing an emoji iphone app on iPad and then using the trick on post #17? If so which app did you use?

You have the iPad 3G model don't you? 🙂 apparently this method only works for the WiFi only model. Not sure why but I've run into quite a few 3G owners that cannot get emoji working using this method.

Nope, I've got 64GB wifi only version. So make that your first encounter? 😛

Won't work on both my 3G and WiFi iPads. Only shows the three 'icons' when 'emoji' is typed in.

Both are jailbroken if that makes any difference.

Some of the other emoji that don't appear when you type 絵文字 will appear if you type what they describe, for example the two kissing emoji appear when typing キス (kisu), the hearts appear with ハート (haato), and things like that, just like some of the symbols do on Japanese cell phones and using qwerty-jp on a computer (三角 (sankaku) for △ and 丸 (maru) for ○ and other). If you wanna type the poop icon, うんち (unchi) works too (I thought うんこ would but it does not) 😀

I found on my iPad wifi, emoji still needed to be enabled the traditional way that you would on an iPhone (meaning, through a program to enable the preference). Although you still don't select it as a keyboard in Settings (you still use just the Japanese QWERTY option) it then appears when typing 'emoji' and other things.

Try the app called Emoji Enabler ... It is the only thing that finally worked for me. Now when I type EMOJI it brings up the emoji characters.

Thanks but didn't work for me. I tried all different Japanese keyboard layouts, rebooted and still nothing. 🙁

I have 16GB Wifi Model, and the process of enabling Japanese Qwerty keyboard and typing "emoji" also did not work for me.

I downloaded the Emoji Enabler as suggested (even though it's only for iPhone). I ran it, and then went into settings afterwards. The option for "Emoji" in the Japanese keyboard list was not there as suspected. But I went back into Notes and tried typing "emoji" again, and it worked. They are all there.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have a 32GB 3G and had emoji working. Since then I've restored and haven't bothered trying to enable it again. But I can confirm that emoji will work on a 3G iPad.

The main issue here is that there's no full-size emoji keyboard, so actually using emoji requires some Japanese ability (and enabling another keyboard you may not use at all). Or at least it sounds like it.

The Japanese kana and emoji keyboard setups are quite different from a qwerty keyboard and I imagine Apple either hasn't come up with a suitable full-size adaptation for the iPad or isn't going to.

I downloaded a free emoji iphone app and simply pick the emoji I want and the app copies them to the clipboard for me. There are literally hundreds of emoji related apps, but here is a link to a free one called "icon-keyboard". Yes it is an iPhone app. But it can place emoji on the iPad clipboard to paste into text you are composing in email or other apps. Of course the person on the other end must be viewing on an iThing to see the emoji. I use them in Aircoaster XL when I create track names to draw attention to my tracks. Since I only use them for this, I decided it wasn't worth buying an app that might have provided a more convenient method of using emoji.

Ok here is how I did it

Guys, all apps installing emoji just enable hidden settings on your iPhone/iPad,
After installing nothing will work until you restart it. 

As well you can use a free one like spell number
Google spell number in the app store, download it
You need to input a special number, it was 9876543.21
Now it might be 91929394.59
Then hit the home bottom, restart and select the Japanese qwerty keyboard as
Explained in the thread above.
You might see the slide "enable emoji" or not, that doesn't matter as it is country or carrier specific for what I know.. (I do not have it)
Hope this helps 

Presha,

I have the 64 GB | 3G non jailbroken as well. How did you get your to work?

Sorry it took me so long to reply cameljok.

To use emoji on my 3G, non jail broken 64gb iPad, I simply did what I would normally do on my iPhone....nothing else.

I mean you have to consider that, if you have it on your iPhone and can properly use it, then there's no difference on the iPad. Just initiate your international keyboard by hitting the globe icon left of the space bar (make sure Japanese is selected) and type the word "emoji" into the email or text that you're composing and the emoji icons will appear in the marque box above the keyboard. Select the icon of your choice and then hit the globe icon left of the space bar to return back to the English keyboard and that's it!

Does anyone know how I can just view emoji on the iPad? In my twitter app my friends are using emojii but I can't see it.
