They want to be able to make a living and Apple won’t let them. Apple’s system destroys innovation and hurts the formation of new businesses - which, in return, hurts the economy. Apple’s system favors individual developers who wouldn’t be able to afford marketing their products otherwise. But it hurts young companies that can’t properly monetize on their product and build an ecosystem around innovations.

btw all of these were used against AT&T and other companies that were split up by the anti-trust agencies in the past.
They sign an agreement it is not like they do not know what they are getting into. And if you did not read it you should not be there. Companies wanting to make money without paying the company that created the devices and setup and maintains the store.

Macs allow apps to be downloaded using the browser, why can’t the iPhone?

I'm dreaming a day of a Mac app store Only. One source for all the apps: no website, no torrents, no strange site with ads and stupid things. Only one place with huge wall of protections.
Customers are stupid so you need to protect them and the only way to do so it's to allow only certain type of app from a specific place.

Personally as a non-developer I don't see the need to sideload apps to my IPP or iPhone. When I had an android device I did but I've moved on from that and just want apps delivered in a secure centralised environment. If I were to develop for iOS the the route to market presented seems much better than my having to serve the content myself, make it accessible and above all get it to the point where people find it and can install it.

As for Telegram I don't understand why they're bringing this case as they don't charge for downloading so it's not hitting their pocket, or are they doing it on behalf of developers world-wide///

I don’t want to side load apps either - but this isn’t about customers. This is about devs and dev companies that are struggling to survive in an already tough economy

Because a virus or malware on a data sensitive device like a phone is next level stuff with the potential to destroy a person’s life or endanger national/company security.

Some people. They forget that Jeff Bezos of all people got hacked by a dictatorship that tried to blackmail him.

I am excited how this plays out but I am sure this will take forever and will just be forgotten.

it would be great to have the OPTION to check „allow installing apps from 3rd party sources“ and a pop up quickly explaining the potential risks so Apple isn’t liable.

That option would be permenantly turned off for me. I like my walled garden.

I'd be happy to keep the garden wall in tact if the fee structure changed, for example if they dropped to about 5-10% the sub / purchase charge perhaps topped up with a £10 fee per app submission for review. I'd also be happy for the fee structure to remain as-is and the door opened for competing stores rather like Amazon has got one for Android as long as they are forced to review apps. I am more concerned (although happy to be convinced) of just allowing us to do what we do on Macs and install from anywhere, on mine I hardly use the App store at all, but in the hands of normal users that is more dangerous.

where else would they sell their product? Please do tell

Yeeeeaaahhh, that's not ever going to happen. Why even bother trying to complain about this?

Exactly... they just want to get a ‘kick’ in.

I agree. I find this whole thing not much different from retail.

I’m for it, it’s about time to force open that platform like macOS, Windows, Linux, Android & Co.

To allow software installation from different sources, and in return to allow Apple to charge the % they want for app store publishing. People would use what they prefer, and we‘ll have more competition.

Apple loves to play the saviors by jailing and patronizing people, $€£...

Not to change the subject but if you follow that link to telegram and then edit out the url to the root it allows you to post something else without credentials? What's with that?

Interesting how companies want to use Apple's platform but not pay Apple any fees.

Clearly companies want their apple pie and to eat it too.

Just like you don't have to pay to deliver software on a PC or Mac. I've already paid quite a bit for my iPhones and iPads, I don't see myself as property of Apple that they can gatekeep access to.

Not going to happen (voluntarily). Apple‘s MacOS app store is living proof that devs won‘t use restrictive frameworks if they can work on their own terms elsewhere.

Stop calling it an „encrypted messaging app”. Telegram’s encryption is bad, because it’s only enabled for private chats which most people don‘t know. Also they built their own encryption implementation which is always a bad idea.

There are a lot of apps with true universal encryption (iMessage, Signal, even Whatsapp) and yet you never call them „encrypted messaging app” in your titles.

This makes no sense. The complaint is that they want to use the platform (iOS) but bypass going through Apple.
Well, we can also take the other route and request Apple to open the hardware, to allow us to install whatever OS we want. Because you’re saying the platform is iOS, but currently we can’t use anything else on an Apple Device. If Apple suddenly disappear, their activation servers goes down, all your beloved hardware just become useless bricks. You probably would be the first one to scream for help in here.
