I recently switched to Outlook.com as well, even though I don't plan to buy another phone for awhile. Works great! One of the nice calendar features is that Outlook.com will optionally send you an email reminder for a calendar appointment. That's just way cool IMHO.

A big issue that I ran into with gmail happened during the daylight savings time change. My calendar appointments were off by an hour between iPhone/iPad and Outlook calendar. I've had no problems with synching between iPhone/iPad and Outlook with Outlook.com.

I have an observation and a question. I have email set up on my iPhone 5 for gmail. It doesn't push just as we all know. But I also have iCloud set up on my phone and it has the option for email syncing turned on. If I turn iCloud email push on through settings, I get push gmail using the stock ios email app. Should this work this way for everyone? Seems like a good alternative. I just don't know if it will last since I don't pay any extra for having iCloud storage, I just have the standard 5gb free.

Edit: never mind. It doesn't work.

I was with yahoo, but recently created a gmail account about a week ago. I set the account up through the iphone mail app picking the gmail account, not exchange. None of my emails from apps or contacts are showing up on my lock screen. I need to go into my mail app and manually drag down the refresh to get the emails. Cannot fix this issue at all. Please help.

Settings->Mail->Fetch New Data->Every 15 Minutes.

VERY VERY annoyed by this latest development.

I still have two of my gmail accounts pushing via exchange but I had to add a third email today for work and there is no way to make it push for me. The best I can do is have it fetch every 15 minutes. Not ideal and definately will be a dealbreaker to continue to use gmail when I get a new device later this year.

I tried to configure it as "gmail" from the options (fetch), exchange (doesn't work following the late jan deadline), and other using imap settings (fetch)

I tried and HATED the gmail app for iphone/ipad. Very sub-par compared to the native app & fetch is BS in this day and age.

Just pay for google apps for business and you get your EAS back.

That didn't do anything. Notifications, banners, view in lock screen are all turned on. Still have to manually drag the refresh button down to see my new emails.

Go into Advanced under Fetch New Data to make sure that the account hasn't been set to Manual.

Surprised theres not more noise about this; starting today Google is not supporting active sync, which means setting up gmail through exchange on iOS to get push gmail is no longer available. Sure its there for existing users but it looks like if you buy a new device in the future you're out of luck. Assume its the same for iOS upgrades if you do a full wipe, so people who like to do that are out of luck too.

Sure you can use the gmail app i guess but it means you dont get a unified inbox and for those who hate the gmail interface (like i do) it really sucks!!

why do you use exchange? don't you just use the gmail mail option? or am i missing something? most likely :)

You mean the gmail option when setting your email up through the given iphone mail app, right? Are you getting email notifications on your lock screen? I can't get them at all no matter how many times I reset my phone.

Have you setup notification for gmail in the notification center?

Notifications are on. Settings are at fetch every 15 min. Push is on.

I tested it out with my yahoo account and emails would hit the lock screen very quickly. When I try it with gmail, it takes a while or no lock screen notification shows at all

So, has anyone else had issues with this lately? My device and account should have been grandfathered in, but my push Gmail has been acting like fetch this past week, where new email doesn't show unless I enter the mail app.

Very aggravating. I have an outlook.com account created and ready to go, but I was holding off until I got a new iDevice and my hand was forced.

I have the same issues.

I was seeing the same problem with Gmail push earlier this week, but it seems to be back to normal now. I had enabled the Gmail app on my iPhone, and used it to alert me of new messages. I would then open the stock mail app to view/reply.

Time to setup email forwarding in Gmail and use iCloud.

The problem I had with doing this is when I needed to search for something in an old email, I would have to use the gmail app. There's no way that I know of to be able to see old emails in iCloud that are in gmail that haven't been forwarded to iCloud.

I'm not sure about iCloud, but I was able to transfer all my old emails and folders (except for Sent and Deleted) from Gmail to Outlook.com by following the instructions in the article below:

Thanks for the replies and help. I'll give those a read and see if it'll work for me. If like to use iCloud email that way.

You can still have your gmail account on your iphone via the native app. You can then search through that.
