It's not that Apple doesn't have the talent to create serviceable AirPods. Apple doesn't want them to be because that means less repeat sales after the batteries wear out in 1-2 years.
I had mine for 4 years. What are people doing with charging cases that need replacement in 1-2 years?

Cool but man am I getting worn out from those YouTubers. Sick of their thumbnails, sick of the clickbait titles, sick of how vapid they all are. MR being one of the few exceptions. Love the MR show and their videos.

You sound like a hater lol

"EU legislation will force Apple to switch new AirPods models to USB-C from late 2024"

I'm still pretty sure the EU legislation doesn't force anybody to adopt USB C. While it's of course 99% likely Apple will continue to include a charging port on the AirPods case and if they do it will be USB C, they could delete it altogether.

There is nothing in the legislation that says a device has to have a wired charging port at all. Only that if it does, it needs to be their standard which is currently USB C.

Seriously Apple, hire these people. Third parties and student engineers and programmers are doing a better job than you are at this point.
I'm pretty sure Apple engineers have all the knowledge and competences needed, it's a business decision that determines what port is used on what device (and it is the reason we still have this decade-long mess of having Lightning on some products and USB-C on others).

Cool but dude could just have waited until September 2023 and bought Apple's version.

Yes this. It makes me want to crawl into the screen and confiscate their mouth holes.

I have never seen a cult around a charging port before. USBC just has wacky fans. It’s just another port. Yippee. I have 50 different devices charging with all different types of chargers. Hard to care about the difference between Lightning and USBC for charging. In a headphone case.

My beats charge with microUSB- now that’s real suffering.

Personally, I expect Apple to offer USB Type C connector charging cases for the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 by April 2023
This would be the easiest product for Apple to ditch all ports on, it already has MagSafe, and there is no data to transfer.

AirPods is not a "disposable item". Give it back to Apple for recycling at EOL.

I charge my AirPods Pro 2 wirelessly. I don't care about this USB-C port modification.

Blame the algorithm that rewards these kind of thumbnails and titles. Nobody including the YTers ar happy with these thumbnails and titles, but when it's your actual job and you make 50% less ad revenue without them, you'll learn quick enough how to make a funny face.

Apple should be embarrassed. ;)
We should be embarrassed with not responding with our wallets enough. Apple will not upgrade what they don’t have too until sales drop or need to take out of their pocket for the next big thing.

It used to be for the lolz. Now its for the clickz. With MR feeding the clickz. Also, if anyone here thinks apple hasn't already prototyped every device it makes with usb-c instead of lightning (notice the lack of "e" in there), I have a spaceship in cupertino to sell you.

I'm so tired of this cord war, cords are dying. It's like when people were obsessed with blueray as disks were on their way out

You're not one of the cool kids, huh?

Apparently, wired is in. 🤷‍♂️

While Apple would like to do that, EU and soon Indian regulations may prevent portless devices with MagSafe pad charging from happening. Besides, you can get far higher charging rates with a USB Type C connection (up to 100 watts with the Power Delivery 3.0 specification).

I wouldn't be surprised once both Android phones and the new iPhone 15 both go with USB Type C connectors. We may see a resurgence of wired earbuds starting this fall, especially since the headphone makers don't have to consider two different types of connectors anymore.

I am pretty sure they have multiple prototypes at Apple using different ports/standards and technology. The video looks cool, but what about real life considerations, limitations, and scaling these cases. Apple has to make, sell, support millions of them. Imagine problems with the prototypes multiplying in to millions of defective devices. Do they even have manufacturing pipelines to make them at scale? Lightening production lines have been set for years.
Yes apple uses the USB-C port in products since 2015 (MB 12“, later MBP, now all ipads). so this is not about manufacturing, its their policy.

Why do you think a USBC port any different to integrate than a lightning port?

they get good money from 3rd parties using lightning accessories. Thats the reason why they don’t switch
