While Apple would like to do that, EU and soon Indian regulations may prevent portless devices with MagSafe pad charging from happening. Besides, you can get far higher charging rates with a USB Type C connection (up to 100 watts with the Power Delivery 3.0 specification).
The new EU regulation specifically states that any device can charge wirelessly if it doesn’t have a port, high probability, that Apple will also make their phones portless, rumored for a while that that is what they want to do anyway. My guess is regular iPhones will be portless, and only the Pro iPhones will get USB-C. But I could be wrong, they could be all portless.
Also 100 watt charging for airpods would be awesome.

I think given the relatively slow rate of wireless pad charging (and the fact they heat up the phone), Apple would rather just "bite the bullet" and go USB Type C on the iPhone, AirPods charging cases, and the charging connectors for the wireless keyboard and mouse that comes with the iMac. With USB Typc C, Apple could do 30 watts initial charging rate for iPhone 15 and 40 watts initial charging rate for the iPhone Pro/Pro Max, far above what the 15 watts initial charging rate for the MagSafe connection used by iPhones.

But getting back on topic, I wouldn't be surprised that within the next month Apple starts production of the AirPods, AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro cases with USB Type C connectors that support up to circa 18 watts initial charging rate.
