Wait... So the rumored FaceId no bezel iPad Pro is now not happening???

I think the fact that they didn't update the none touch bar MBP at the same time as the 2018 MBP's says something, this 13" MacBook could replace that model and the Air with the current 12" MacBook dropping to $999, the long stated rumour that it was delayed because Apple wanted to put a 10nm inside it but has now changed to the 14nm Kaby Lake because Intel delayed them until 2019 makes sense, Mark Gurman stated this early in the year after Apple had the intention of announcing it at WWDC but later changed the plans (according to Gurman)
There is also no successor to the 2017 13" nTB MBP Kaby Lake processor yet so far (Coffee Lake doesn't have any 15-W chips, Kaby Lake R doesn't of the higher-end integrated graphic and Whisky and other Lakes aren't out yet).

No wireless charger can match the speed and power of the wired ones yet. Yes, it is convenient to have these charging mats lying around places to top up the compatible gadgets, but then it gets really expensive.
Reminds me of the people claiming that wireless headphones could never match wired ones in terms of sound quality.

Turns out that while they were not wrong, they were focusing on the wrong metrics because the people who did favour wireless headphones like the AirPods did so for other benefits such as convenience, and were completely fine with sacrificing sound quality in the process.

When I use wireless charging, it's typically overnight while I sleep. So long as my phone is at 100% by the time I wake up in the morning, who really cares how quickly or slowly it charges?

The market in a bit of a weird position at the moment: most competing sub-$1000 (or even low $1000s) laptops still only have 1080p screens (which are probably dirt cheap due to their ubiquity), while $400 tablets are sporting retina displays...
Part of that price discrepancy is due to Intel charging significantly more than, eg, Qualcomm for the main processor unit.

Let's hope the 12" Macbook gets Thunderbolt USB-C and Touchbar...
spect ratio of the Airs is bad... so even with Retina I'm not interested in those...

And, yes we definitely need a new Mini...

That's why I prefer the Mini... fits the pocket... if necessary even the backpocket of a jeans...

I mean, those clothes should be discontinued too

It definitely makes sense to ship the 13” MacBook in September given Back To School purchases and the promotion itself.
Also you seem to be confused about the price positioning without realising the other changes to the lineup. There will be price drops.
A sub $1000 MacBook with therefore be present in the lineup. Ideally we would see the price drop to $899 but realistically it’ll be £999, with this model coming in at $1199.

And those iPad Pro screen measurements aren’t accurate but that doesn’t really matter.

While an upgraded mini won't sell in the same volume as the regular size, it will sell. And it's not like Apple can claim model lineup simplicity anymore so... why not make more money Apple?

Stockholders (and mini fans) want to know.
Because the people buying an iPad mini are likely getting one in place of a larger iPhone, which means that the iPad mini may actually be causing Apple to earn less money, not more.

Yeah, I’m kind of amazed that 3.5 years later the 12” MacBook hasn’t moved in price. I can appreciate at launch that they couldn’t hit the $999 price point with a new product like that. But you’d think over time if the purpose of it was a low end laptop to sit alongside the MacBook Pro that after 3.5 years they could have slowly reached $999 and maybe even had a 13-14” non-Pro version of it as well.

Is it possible that 12" Macbook become that $999 laptop and new 13" will cost $1200?

USB.3 lightning cables? SHAME Apple! SHAME!

Samsung, when are you going to make fun of this?
[doublepost=1534507568][/doublepost]Apple is late in merging 12" macbook with Macbook Air line up, they maybe are sizing the market with this 2 products, but if so, they are going to take just wrong stadistics, as both offer SOOOOO diffrent specs.

Sounds like another speed bump for the MBA and no retina display or new features - other than probably removing the old USB-A and TB2 ports for one or two USB-C jacks.

It's getting scary how Apple really doesn't want to put any effort in its Macs nowadays (unless it's to release an expensive faux-pro product like the iMac Pro).

You're right of course. But I wonder if (soon to be) existence of the 6.5 iPhone at a $1000 is a reason why Apple is apparently sort-of EOL-ing the iPad mini. Partly because for some tasks a 6.5" phone can substitute a 7.85" tablet (probably movie watching as the 16:9 crop on the 6.5" iPhone is very close in size to the same crop on the 3:4 7.85" iPad mini). And partly because Apple rather sells $1000 phones for those purposes than $400 tablets.
I don't think the size of the iPhone has anything to do with Apple's decision to kill the Mini... if they do indeed kill it. I think it will have everything to do with price.

I am a fan of the iPad Mini 4 and was hoping for a Mini Plus (Pencil support). But when I saw the introduction 2018 iPad at the entry price of $329 I concluded that there is no place (price-wise) for a mythical Mini Plus. Apple took a few steps back from the Air 2 and Pro 9.7 to get the 2018 iPad down to that $329 price. Doing the same thing with the Mini I don't think would translate well. Keeping everything in the Mini 4 as-is but upgrading the processor and adding Pencil support would push it to $400-500... for a Mini Plus that is a hard sell. Yes, there are people who would buy it at that price... I'd seriously consider it. But I don't think it would be at the volume that Apple would expect.

I expect, perhaps next March, the current 329 iPad to have a bezelless version with better cameras and faceid. It already has pencil support. A 9.7 inch screen edge to edge gets you a physical chassis just about the size of the iPad mini. They could get away with charging more than the basic 329 iPad since it’ll have AR, true depth etc. best of all worlds. And quite realistic I think.

iPad SE (low end with beZels and Touch ID), iPad (9.7 bezelless Face ID with mini sized chassis) and then the two pros at 11” and 12.9. Nice clean lineup. No internal iPad overlap. Upsell opportunities and no cannibilaZation with the X+

One can hope.

Where are you seeing that? Article clearly states new iPad pros. 11” and 12.9. Both will be bezelless per prior rumors. The 10.5 screen gets stretched , the current 12.9 gets bezels lopped odd.

Yup - Exactly what I think they'll do. Especially since the current 12" MacBook has gotten better with upgrades over time. I think the 13" model looks a lot like the 12", using the same processor class, with the Retina display found in the current 13" MacBook Pro (and hopefully an additional USB-C port.)

The 13" model will be thinner and lighter than the Air (and MacBook Pro "Escape") it replaces, with as good battery life and performance as the Air, but now with a Retina display.

It probably took Apple a little longer than they wanted to get to this point (thanks to Intel), but it looks like it's probably here. And the lineup becomes much simpler:

Macbook: 12" and 13"
MacBook Pro 13" and 15"

with clear distinctions between the two product lines (weight, processor speed, storage options, TouchBar, Thunderbolt 3) to justify the positioning and pricing.

So you’re saying the chassis of the MB except in 13? If they’re going with an all new chassis why didn’t they just go with 14 then? MB 12/14. MBP 13/15. Also the biggest problem with the MB is the damn keyboard.

Pretty confusing info. I for one have no idea what they’re planning even with this new info. Take the MBa chassis. Retina. Perhaps edge to edge. Keep the ports and keyboards and that’s a great machine. But it’s not really an “air” since the 12 MB is really the lightest ultraportable.

Oh ok, I was looking at the pictures and still saw the Home Button. My bad.

Not if the customer buys an iPad and the smaller iPhone as that meets their needs.
IMHO, phones are getting far too big. I'll think long and hard about going larger than the iPhone 7.
