Today's DigiTimes report also claims Apple will use the September event to announce the "launch schedule" for its wireless AirPower charger, costing in the region of $160-$190. Apple previewed its multi-device AirPower charging mat at its iPhone X event last September, and confirmed that it will be released at some point in 2018, but it has yet to reveal how much it will cost. An earlier rumor citing "industry insiders" has suggested a price point of around $149.

No wireless charger can match the speed and power of the wired ones yet. Yes, it is convenient to have these charging mats lying around places to top up the compatible gadgets, but then it gets really expensive.

Apple seems to be "spraying its mark" by announcing new products 1 year ahead of time before releasing it... Courage no more?

Yup - Exactly what I think they'll do. Especially since the current 12" MacBook has gotten better with upgrades over time. I think the 13" model looks a lot like the 12", using the same processor class, with the Retina display found in the current 13" MacBook Pro (and hopefully an additional USB-C port.)

The 13" model will be thinner and lighter than the Air (and MacBook Pro "Escape") it replaces, with as good battery life and performance as the Air, but now with a Retina display.

It probably took Apple a little longer than they wanted to get to this point (thanks to Intel), but it looks like it's probably here. And the lineup becomes much simpler:

Macbook: 12" and 13"
MacBook Pro 13" and 15"

with clear distinctions between the two product lines (weight, processor speed, storage options, TouchBar, Thunderbolt 3) to justify the positioning and pricing.

I hope you are wrong because I would really hate for this new 13" model to have the same 12" frame. That would mean that this new 13" would also have the same 480p FaceTime camera currently used in the 12". That is INSANE in 2018.

All I really want is for the non-touch bar MacBook Pro to be refreshed with the 3rd gen keyboard and newer processor. But it appears like Pro users will be forced to use the touch-bar, like it or not.

I wouldn't bet on it.

If so, I think the iPad is forever doomed to be a nice supplementary device to your phone and pc that is a ‘nice to have’ product for those with the cash to spare, but not a ‘must have’ ie in the same way that a pc or a smartphone is.

I know it’s not good to map your own experiences and needs onto billions of other potential customers but...

I’m a ‘tech enthusiast’ and own a Mac, iPhone & Apple Watch, I just can’t justify buying an iPad. In fact I considered getting one instead of a MBP last year but it just wasn’t worth it.

It’s not as powerful (meaning functionality not processing horsepower) and even with a Smart Keyboard it was clunky to use.

I had to keep on reaching up to use the touchscreen - you know like people with those touchscreen pcs that Apple are so fond of laughing at.

I would defy anyone to use the iPad Pro for proper light productivity tasks for a week instead of a pc/Mac and not end up frustrated. And this is basic stuff that the pc/Mac has been pretty good at since at least the late 80s.

If Apple just come out this year and say ‘here’s the new iPad Pro, it’s faster and it has the notch - which you can use in landscape as well as portrait!’ I’ll just shrug my shoulders and continue to not buy one.

Then go buy one they are available on Apple’s website. They will probably be updated later this year as well.
I don’t want to buy now since there may be newer version this year. But if I wait, Apple may discontinue the 12" line of products and the specific configuration I want may no longer be available from 3rd party seller.

$150 for a wireless charging "mat"? My Samsung wireless charger cost only $25.00. Is there something about the Apple version which would justify a $150 price?

I would consider one of these new MacBook Airs if they continued to provide USB-A ports and an audio jack. Toss a USB-C port on there, but dumping ports that people still use in a modern context that are not out-of-date is user-hostile.

Who needs a iPad mini?

Me; as many people, I need an iPad mini-sized. After years of having an iPad Air in home, I've realised that it is too big for certain tasks and it's weight and size makes the iPad mini ideal for those (reading books, magazines, websites, playing some games...) It's amazing.

I would be happy if Apple left it as it is, just with upgraded internals (an Apple A9 or even better, an A10 would be awesome, nothing more).

Because the richest company in the world cannot have more than 3 products, right? So messy! Not good. Apple should have only ONE product.... the dongle.
IMO the Air and the MacBook basically fill the same product category so I'm not sure what advantage having both offers. Are there use cases which would prevent one from being used in place of the other?

They won’t discontinue the 12” MacBook, the rumour is they will be releasing a 13” low cost MacBook or MacBook Air, the “12 MacBook will get updated.

A Mini with truetone, FaceID and 512GB storage (insert Fry meme telling everyone to shut up and take my money)

The 12” has Retina screen while the air doesn’t, the 12” is thinner and lighter than the Air and the Air is cheaper for people such as students.

As ASUS releases a new machine with a screen in the touch pad, and a VGA front facing camera in the display.

Apple isn’t the only one who skimps on some things.

It can charge multiple devices at the same time.
For $150 I can buy six Samsung chargers. Viewing pictures of the Apple product it doesn't appear as if it can charge six full devices at the same time.

I understand the differences between the two models. However those are more implementation details. The Air could have a Retina screen. The 12" could be less expensive. The product segment for these two products is light and portable. Both products are essentially the same in this regard.
