Anyone else tired of hearing about Epic?
And to think, the trial hasn't even started yet! (seriously though, there are people who don't realize this and think that the trial was back in November, and that Epic lost)
I can’t stand epic, but **** Apple. I can’t stand the company Apple has become. Can’t even get auto correct to work well. And **** Tim Cook.
While I think you might be extrapolating a bit too much here, it's true that the auto correct on iOS/iPadOS/macOS is horrible. I don't think it's an area that Apple's touching. Really, I don't think a single thing about it has improved in the last 10 years.

Yes, and anything to do with Ted Lasooooo.
I’ll the leaker that should remain unmentioned for once, starts with a “P” and ends in “-ser”
(I got notning against Ted Lasso, but can see why so much pushing can get bothersome)

On the topic, does Epic has some ace card or does anybody can think of anything? I don’t get how this can budge... so many parallels to any retailer in the world that just wouldn’t fly, it’s like if Nike wants to change how Costco or Walmart works when/where they sell their stuff, because their Nike stores “something something”. And its for the small mom and pop’s shops that artisanal goods, cakes, etc there

I consider the Strategy that both companies are using to be stupid !

Apple should be promoting ALL the FREE Marketing that Epic got via the App Store, to help their case.

Epic should be focused on Apple's Stranglehold on App Discovery, & that third-party App Stores are needed because of that reason ... which, with added competition, will bring down the Commission Rate !

Neither Apple NOR Epic appears to be run by intelligent people when it comes to this lawsuit !

It costs more to use Epic's store than any of the 30% cut stores. Steam never changed from 30% and developers ignore Epic unless bribed to use their expensive store.

I'm not. I think the things they want are beneficial to everyone.
Remember revolutions only start when someone crosses the line.

Ya, I don't want android. The family security features on Apple are a huge selling feature for me.

Plus, I would have easily paid a premium for Fortnite on IOS. Between their sneaky business model, and ideological CEO, Epic has totally lost the big picture.

If Epic Games just pays Apple their part, this would all be over. But no, even though like I’ve been saying forever, Epic Games makes billions of dollars every year.

Correct.

But Epic is upset that in order for them to make billions of dollars in the App Store... they have to give Apple hundreds of millions of dollars just for them to facilitate the transfer of dollars to VBucks.

Note: I'm not siding with Epic here... I'm just stating why they are upset. I, too, think Epic should just play by the rules as they are written (and have been written for the last 13 years...)

But I can see Epic's point. Apple taking 30% to turn real dollars into fake dollars is kinda ridiculous.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is an expensive gamble by Epic. Lose all revenue from Apple's platforms and then pay lawyers around the globe to fight your cause.
If Epic wanted to try gambling they'd have been much better off buying $1Billion in BitCoin instead.
That's a gamble that's paid off well for a smarter guy than Tim Sweeney.

You do realize even if epic wins you can still keep safe in apple wall garden. Either don't download from another store or the might simply put an option where it's "install apps only from iOS store" everyone else can sideload a different store all they want but it wouldn't have to change anything if you didn't want it to.

i dont play Epic games BUT I dont want them having backdoor workaround access that could weaken security for my phone to meet their greedy needs.

No one is forcing them to put their app on the AppStore. Very little noise demanding Apple put it back on.

Bottom line, you buy an iPhone knowing the way the store works.
If you want choice of stores, you buy an Android phone. Simple.

Having used both types of phones, and seen work situations where side loaded apps brought viruses into our work network, I think the controlled single Apple store works better.

How is this not android?

I don't think you understand. I used to have android but the latest and greatest features are no longer as important to me as a customer. My phone is simply not that important. I want only verified applications across all devices. It's hard enough managing all the family permissions. Security and vanilla apps are fundamental to why I choose apple devices.

hi there.

i get what you are saying but have seen headaches from Android side loaded apps loading viruses to networks that caused everyone in company issues with the mail. Eventually the IT guys disabled wifi access for all phones - so we all lost some useful functionality because someone with a bad app skirted the process :(

If apple can simply void warranty for anyone doing this or stop support for systems hacked. Epic wants apple to drop shields just so they can make more money with zero responsibility to security and stability of the system. Epic is full of Shot, they should release their own phone if they want to be free.

Apple should offer to put Epic's games on for 0% commission and then invite a third party developer to intervene complaining that Epic's preferential treatment is anti-competitive :)
Lmao that would make no sense for Apple. If something like that happened, then Apple would be forced to give everyone a 0% commission.

They can’t have “backdoor access” if you don’t install their apps... If you were so worried you’d only install apps from the App Store. So what’s the deal? Just like you said:

No one is forcing them to put their app on the AppStore
No one would be forcing you to install apps that wouldn’t be in the AppStore.

Epic Games should argue to enforce iPhones being able to install Android, or even better, enforce iPhones to pre-install Android instead of iOS, ALL PROBLEMS SOLVED that way. /s

BS, I'd profit massively especially as a small developer if they achieve a global change.
I'm VERY curious as a developer what your revenues are yearly and what your costs for your app is and what your statistics show for your various pricing and sales models in the App Store for iOS/iPadOS/WatchOS ...

care to be brave and share without stating the app?
