It looks great, but video games never end up looking as good as they do on these “first look” trailers when you actually play it on your TV in your bedroom.

Uncharted 4 would like to have a word with you. Granted, it took Naughty Dog quite a while to release it (3 years after PS4’s debut), but it can be done. Actually, now I want a new Uncharted, which is what this trailer reminds me of.

This is a tech demo on the newly announced unreal engine 5 running on a ps5 not for osx lol.

Welp, lets see how well it looks and runs when it’s running a REAL video game. Like where there’s guns, explosions, stats, achievement tracking, AI, sprinting, jumping and the other 99 players that you’re playing online with. Along with 100+ GBs of maps, characters and engine that has to be QAed and maintained. Most video games consist of more than just pacing through a canyon. I bet in several years when Unreal 6 is released, we still won’t have any released games that look and run this well.

I mean, it doesn't really look that much better than actual games running on UE4 now. We're really in the era of diminishing returns. That demo looks absolutely achievable as a target for real games.

Too bad there aren't any Macs that can actually run any of these games in maximum quality (except a Mac Pro with a good graphics card of course).
My 2019 iMac with Radeon Pro Vega 48 can run all the latest games at ultra quality, maintaining a minimum of 60 fps, usually at 2560x1440.

(Occasionally I have to run a game at 2048x1152 to maintain a consistent 60 fps. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was one such game, whereas Rise of the Tomb Raider ran at 2560x1440 without breaking a sweat.)

is this an actual game in development?

The demo is just a tech demo, it isn’t part of any game that’s intended for release, but Epic Games did say that it’s fully playable.

I have an eGPU connected to a MacMini 2018 with an i7 and 32gb of ram. It does quite nicely with gaming. :)

which eGPU do you have?

Last time I tried to play on MacOS it didn't go well. I got way more FPS on Windows in the same games. I'm not gonna install Windows on my Mac to decently play games.

Curious to see what the minimum system requirements are to run future games on the Mac. I have yet to try Apple Arcade. Is that even available on Mac?

Given that a lot of the Macs on Apple's site have integrated graphics, does that mean UE5 would only benefit those w/ dedicated graphics cards plus some VRAM?
