I'm sure it was just a coincidence that that video "leaked" out. Perfect opportunity for him to take a cheap shot at Apple.

And I too want to know if the app has even been submitted.

I suspect it hasn't. This leak seems like it might have been a stunt to see if anyone on iOS has any interest. Then they can let folks think the issue is Apple while they actually build the thing

----------

Do you have examples where they've actually done this? There are certainly plenty of examples of Apps that compete with Apples that have been approved and are in the App Store. So I guess my real question is, is this a real or imagined "problem"?

AppShopper. But it wasn't yanked for being competition so much as they designed the UI to look just like the official store. Which is a firm no no.

Google Now is actually pretty awesome and useful. You don't know how well it works and how much value it brings until you start using it. It's Apple's customers' loss if it doesn't come to iOS.

And to all Google bashers out there, don't forget all the good, convenient and free services that you all enjoy from Google. An excellent search engine, Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Translate, just to name a few.

I bet none of you raised your voice against Google Translate when it was brought up as a feature that is available in iOS that counters Samsung's translator program.

The fact of the matter is, you all received more services for free from Google that you ever will from Apple. Just saying...

Well no, but google don't hide the fact they make all their money from mining your habit and data.

again who cares? everyone "makes money off of u" just take a shiat at a public toilet or ordering a drink at the bar

What does Google's marketing department want me to think?

well they are obviously not gonna say "use our products and we are going to sell your data to others" and apple is no different. iOS is full of bloaded 3rd party bs that is supposed to make your "life easier" (yea right ...)

siris ticket ordering stuff and yelp everywhere comes to mind

again, as long as i get some kind of features out of it I COULDNT CARE LESS what they do with my gps data or funny 9gag pictures

Schmidt made this comment not as a form of information, but as an advertisement.

"Oh, Apple is so evil, they won't approve our apps - come to Android, you can have any app you want over here!"

And then it's also a form of making sure that Apple will approve the app, because if they didn't - they would look evil and anti-competetive.

Any interest I had in Google Now has now vanished due to this ridiculous statement by Schmidt.

Fun fact: 125 million people on Android are able to use Google Now - the day they release Google Now for iOS, suddenly there will be 450 million people able to use Google Now.

Google should release software for iOS first - like every other company already does it^^

If Apple Maps was even close to functioning properly they wouldnt have allowed Google Maps in. They received a firestorm of negative publicity that forced their hand.

You don't know that. In fact it seems more likely that Google wasn't planning to create a Maps until that press came out. Consider that they knew their contract was coming to an end and they had YouTube ready weeks before that date (something like 6 weeks before ios 6 launched) But no Maps. Why wouldn't they have been working on it if they planned to do it all along. Why did it take 6 months after WWDC revealed the switch which they probably knew about weeks before that for something to come out

Nah they built it - probably only took a dev a few weeks to port it over. The point is it won't work in the same way - you'll just get notifications to open the app up all the time
"Your train service is disrupted"
"You have a meeting coming up"
and will have to swipe to open - not a terrible thing - but not as integrated as Android.

I do think it's one of Androids biggest benefits.

If there was any reason to block this at the moment I suspect it's because there is going to be a big shift in iOS in 7. More developed home pages and Notifications. And a lot more Location based stuff - which may well be something along the lines of NOW. Well we can only hope.

It's definitely odd there has been no new iOS7 announcements by now... nor OSX. There normally is by this time of year for the Devs to get on board the new APIs.

Last week, Google apparently accidentally leaked a promotional video revealing that its Google Now app will be coming to iOS. Google Now is currently an Android-only app designed to automatically integrate relevant bits of information such as weather, traffic, appointments, and more into users' lives. The video was quickly removed, but Google had not issued a statement on its appearance.

iPhone Hacks now points to a Tweet from Techmeme editor Mahendra Palsule noting that Google Chairman Eric Schmidt was asked about Google Now coming to iOS at the company's Big Tent event in India today. According to the report, Schmidt suggested that whether or not Google Now comes to the App Store is currently up to Apple's reviewers. The exchange between Schmidt and The Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger appears nearly 18 minutes into the interview (via TechCrunch):Apple and Google obviously have had a contentious relationship as competition between iOS and Android has intensified in recent years. While Apple has generally approved Google's apps submitted to the App Store, there have in some cases been significant delays, as seen with Google Voice remaining in limbo for over a year before finally receiving approval.

So Google's Chief Theft Officer speaks again - whatever he says is irrelevant anyway. "Google Now"? I'll pass, thanks.

Oh please. He answered a question with a legitimate response. Get over it and stop trying to read into something that wasn't there. Do you still have interest in Apple products after what Phil said? Ridiculous indeed.

Fun fact: You just said any interest you had in Google has now vanished. Why would you care if they release something first on iOS now?

And no - not every company releases products on iOS first. Keep dreamin' that dream though!

Tell it to the software censors at the iStore. When Apple stops censoring software from Google, then Google will stop complaining about it. Until then, their complaints are legit.

Voice was yanked because it violated the terms. And, many believed that apple's exclusive provider, Att, was pretty adamant about apple rejecting the app due to distribution agreements. Infact, even wired.com predicted google voice would be rejected prior to the actual rejection. Google knows the rules and it is pretty pathetic to know the rules and then get mad when something happens because you don't follow them.

And remember - google has done this exact same thing in their own app store: http://androidcommunity.com/android-tethering-apps-pulled-from-market-20090331/

Gonna need sources. Also, it is good that ATT has sway over what you can install on your phone?

The difference is that you can still install it, even if google removes it from the store. They just don't want to host it.

Contrived controversy. Just Eric being his usual "charming" self.

Contrived only by forum members.

He was asked a question - and he answered it very straight forward.

Amazing home much subtext people think is here. Contrived indeed. Tin foil is flying off the shelf...
