I have learned through experience just to yawn at Google products because they always charge off in 40 directions and then kill products by the dozen at a time. They can't decide what they want to be as a company and can't commit to anything long term.

He was on the Apple board when the iPhone came out..

Take a guess.

Again - I ask - what did Eric Schmidt steal specifically.

Yeah - Search, Maps and Email certainly are beta programs.

I think I'll pass. I don't want Google's gimmicky spyware on my iPhone constantly burning up my battery so Google can continuously collect data on everything about me and profit off of my info and privacy without paying me.

And they definitely are not going to be allowed to track my children on their phones corrupting their minds with all the corporate advertising Google is fond of blasting all around the web.

By the way Schmidt, it's funny that on Android your actual competition (companies with Ad Blocking apps) seems to be the only apps specifically outlawed from Android and actually enforced. Tons of malware ok to leave in the Play Store but you sure made sure to remove all the ad blockers. Wow.

...

Holy crap have you drunk the Kool-Aid or what. You've managed to hit all of the talking points in just a few sentences.

I commend you on your crusade and wish you luck keeping the corporations out of your children's lives....as they use their iPhones....

That's after 16 months of App Store 'limbo'. Apple can just sit on apps as long as they want. There was nothing wrong with it, they just didn't approve it for over a year.

And you know exactly that the reason was apple did not want to allow it, not something like
-> there was a bug (happens)
-> it was not enabled by the developer
-> it was not allowed through provider regulations (voip was not allowed)

Yeah - Search, Maps and Email certainly are beta programs.

He used the insider knowledge to push the android system.
It was impossible to have such a similar system from day one regarding the timeframe. So development for ios like features had to start before the public release.

Oh please. He answered a question with a legitimate response. Get over it and stop trying to read into something that wasn't there. Do you still have interest in Apple products after what Phil said? Ridiculous indeed.

Fun fact: You just said any interest you had in Google has now vanished. Why would you care if they release something first on iOS now?

And no - not every company releases products on iOS first. Keep dreamin' that dream though!

It's absolutely obvious that that answers was meant to cater to all the "Apple is evil - Google is freedom" fanboys.

"iOS? Oh, that's a dictatorship, why don't you buy or FreedomOS instead?

Apple doesn't randomly kick apps out of the Appstore or reject apps for fun, so all this "We don't know if they'll accept our app" from Google is ********!

Google Voice? - Skype and other VoIP-apps have been available for years, also instant messaging apps.
Oh, and Whatsapp...

All those could have been rejected if Apple were behaving like a Nazi that kicks apps out of the store for fun or because they imitate apps that are already inplemented in iOS.

But they are available.

Maps? Other map-applications have been available for years.

Google Now? It's unlike any feature in iOS, so why would Apple reject the app?

They even allow Nuance Dragon Dictation, even though it's the same as Siri Dictation or Microsoft Photosynth, even though it's the same as Panorama pictures in iOS.

Play by the rules and your app will be accepted - creating FUD with the fanboys to make sure that Apple HAS TO accept your app, even when it's perhaps not playing by the rules is douchebag behaviour.

Oh, and Eric Schmidt was on Apple's board when the iPhone was in developement.
Do you really think that he didn't take knowledge he learned that way to Rubin who was developing Android at Google?

And the facts are where? Please don't link to commentary by Steve Jobs or other blogs that are spouting conspiracy theories. Please link to documentation that clearly states Eric Schmidt stole anything.

I love this conversation that comes up pretty regularly on here. Just love it

There are plenty of Android developers that don't seem to have this problem. I'm not a developer. I just know that I could have better software and Apple won't allow it.

Correction, there ARE plenty of Android Developers who HAVE EXACTLY THAT PROBLEM !
Thats why they first implement their app for ios and only if it makes sense for them because it is accepted, they port it to android.
And yes i know what i am talking about because i support developers and startups

- Google sat on a bug for 16 months? You can't be serious.
- Google submitted it but didn't want to make it public? That makes no sense. They had to go public with Apple holding up the app to force Apple to approve it.
- Google Voice doesn't use VOIP. That is a common misconception.

So tell me - what was Phil doing with his interview the day before the S4 was released. I'm pretty sure it was him talking smack.

Please note - I don't fault EITHER company for talking smack about the other. Whether it's implied or a full on assault. Do I think it's the best way to handle the media - perhaps not. But I'm of the mind both Phil and Eric are both operating at the same "level"

Did I even mention Phil Schiller in my post? No. Did I criticize Mr. Schiller when he made his bizarre tweet before the S IV announcement right here on these MR forums? Yup. (https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=16990287#post16990287)

So please tell me. Please. Why are you barking at me with this non-sequitur?

If there was documentation on what he stole he would be in jail.

You would have to ask Steve Jobs but he's dead so you can't.

Myself. I believe Jobs.

This is the one thing i don't like about apple. They have the right to just not approve an app if they feel it causes competition or as i think apple puts it "confusions" between two competing apps and obviously theirs would win every time.

If they were confident in their products, they would approve every app as long as it passed their actual functionality specifications.

What, you're taking the Schmidt's words seriously? I don't know where this feeling is coming from. Yes, in the first days of Google Voice, Apple didn't approve it, possibly out of spite. But it's there now. In fact, Google's apps are at the top of the list. There are other browsers on the phone, but you have to use AppKit. There are other mail apps you can use. Google's idea, and the idea of its Fandroids, is that Apple is some kind of horrible communist dictator. Pheh.

What Apple does is vet its apps. They give developers very clear guidelines, to ensure that it remains secure and a good experience. Eric apparently thinks that's funny.

It was a general barking. I just happen to quote you...

You clearly don't understand or know what it means when people say that. Or you're being obtuse.

No point arguing against LagunaSol, his hatred for Google is very special, almost makes you think that the company kidnapped his first-born child or something.

And you know exactly that the reason was apple did not want to allow it, not something like

From Apple itself:

"The application has not been approved because, as submitted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality..."

Note that GV was virtually unchanged when it was finally allowed in the store (I believe some back-end things were reworked for iOS 4).

A cursory Google doesn't show this as a large annoyance for Android devs. Either way, I'm sorry you have to work harder to provide a better experience to the end user, but that's the way things work. Work harder and make better products. Do you really want to force me to use Safari because you just don't feel like doing better work?

SJ's trust.

Not to mention, of course, the obvious tiny thing that Peace already mentioned above.

He is a first-class scoundrel, a woodface and a liar...nothing less than that.

Did he kick your kitten too?

Peace didn't mention anything. He alluded to something - but it was so general I'm not quite sure what he meant. Maybe you can clarify. What exactly did Schmidt steal?

And if SJ's trust (in Schmidt) were so muddied - why the glowing statement in the press release when he left the board. Do you really think Steve Jobs would give or sign off on a quote if he really was thermonuclear about Schmidt himself? Does that sound like Steve Jobs? And weren't there reports of both of them having coffee together much later on? Well after Android was on the "shelf" so to speak.

Sorry - doesn't compute.
