It’s pretty much a fact the DMA killed any meaningful competition in the EU. Rather than sponsor up and coming tech it chose to regulate existing tech with draconian regulations thereby killing the chance of any meaningful competition in the eu.

This is the exact same reason why they have introduced a start screen for iOS so you can pick your search engine it’s about lack of competition

To be clear, the DMA is killing any hope of innovation in the eu after the regulations went into effect. My contention is which corporation would want to invest the billions of dollars necessary to be “real” competition to Apple, only to have “my ip is your ip” philosophy of regulation?

It should also be noted that there was not much in terms of eu competition in the smartphone space as of late anyway. That the DMA was the nail in the coffin for future innovation is very telling.

The DMA will be responsible for the death of large scale innovation in the eu. What company who has their head on their shoulders wants to be branded a gatekeeper and lose control of their intellectual property? Maybe as you suggest huawei. But they need to up their revenue since the criteria is revenue based.

Because the reason why the EU is regulating Apple with the start screen to pick your search engine is because chrome has no competition anywhere in the world apart from china

This is the exact same reason why the DMA has been introduced as well because there is no competition for iOS & android anywhere in the world apart from china

As I believe the DMA is lipstick on a pig.

The reason you cite makes to me no sense. We know most people will pick google anyway. Why inconvenience a majority when the default is selectable anyway? As is the default browser.

The DMA wants to make iOS equal to windows and level the playing field by giving away apples assets.

If you think that the majority will pick Google anyway then fair enough but the only country that Google is not number 1 is in china
So as a consequence of that the EU has brought in this legislation to make people aware that other search engines actual exist instead of just going with the default option

That’s your opinion about the DMA but again if there was actual competition around the world apart from in china then it wouldn’t exist
