So, this morning I received an automated email from Apple saying that the payment was declined. I have no idea why and there's nothing that can be done until monday when both Apple and the bank have customer service available.
It's kind of a first world problem but I'm in the middle of some depressing **** right now, involving the bureaucratic aftermath of the death of a close relative, and looking forward to getting a new laptop was what kept me motivated. And now this whole thing is another bureaucratic puzzle to figure out.
First of all, I'm sorry to read about your troubles :/ Please don't hesitate to get professional help, if you think things are getting too much.
And secondly, there is still a chance it won't affect your shipping window. Call Apple and you bank first thing n Monday and I'm sure it will work out. A few years ago I had a similar issue with my bank, called Apple the next day, and they manually updated my card info and there were no delays because of this.

I’m very sorry to hear that!

I hope you have some good close people to talk to about the things happening to you, or a therapist (very worth it from my experience!). I’m not trying to play it down, but a new MacBook won’t help at all in episodes of depression, even though it might be a small spark of joy.

If you’re in mental trouble or seemingly deadlocked situation please get professional help ?

❤️
Thanks for your genuine concern!
I'm not in danger or suicidal. I have a neurpsychiatric condition and I'm easily overwhelmed when a collection of tasks is too much for my excecutive functioning. So I tend to fixate on a point in the future when I know I can enjoy something new, exciting or especially interesting, to get the energy and motivation I need to untangle the mess that is my to-do list. It's a valid copid mechanism. Before I learned it, I was a mess.
I do have a professional mental health contact. :)

Hi guys, finally managed to spend some time with the new Mac. I'm in love, lol. Was worth the 20 years of ageing that I went through last week waiting for it :)

Did everyone who was waiting for the Mac on Friday get it?
Haha i was waiting for it but obviously didn’t get it bc Monday was the most likely option from the beginning. I’m still glad we don’t have a holiday on Monday where I live. Both Apple and UPS now confidentially show Monday, November 1st as delivery date. Only gotta survive the Sunday somehow ?

Think so. Think there was somebody/some people who missed the delivery so not sure if they managed to pick up it somewhere.

I'm sorry to hear that. In those days anything that sparks joy helps to cope. I hope the MacBook part will get sorted soon.

I'm sorry to hear that. I wish you the best for everything ;)

Regarding your order, I wouldn't be too concerned. It happened to me as well, since I forgot to increase the limit of the card I used. The issue did not delay my order (on the contrary, it was shipped before the original estimate). So, I wouldn't worry about that: you should be able to solve this quite easily by calling Apple or your bank (also, if they are charging the card they are probably preparing to ship).

I guess so. No responses probably mean people are now enjoying their new MacBook Pros :)

A few things that I noticed with my 14":
  • 14" is the perfect compromise between portability, weight and screen size. Also the palm area is superb, I was worried that my big hands would lie on the edge of the frame. Not the case with the 14".
  • The trackpad size is perfect. Large but you don't rest your palms on it.
  • brutally fast and quiet compared to my 15" Mid 2015 MBP
  • 32 GB RAM was worth it: my active RAM usage (active!) with an external 1440p UW 144 Hz display is 14 GB I guess due to the VRAM. Very high imho
  • The 1 TB SSD is also insanely fast. 7 GB/s read and write
  • Remaining battery time while setting up, copying data and installing apps was 8 hours. Twice as much as my best energy saving attempts on my old 15" Mid 2015 MBP with gSwitch, TurboBoost Disabler and low screen brightness.
I can totally recommend:
  • The WD D50 Thunderbolt 3 works perfectly fine. 87W of power, Ethernet, DisplayPort 1.4 and lots of USB connections via one port. Genius! (RGB is off permanently since their RGB software is Windows only. But glad it isn't on with no way of disabling it as it don't have a TB3 Windows device).
  • Al Dente is working fine and I'd recommend it: you can limit the battery charge which is a non-issue with the MBPs battery life. My old MBP had 76% battery capacity after 250 cycles and 5 years. I wish Al Dente existed back in 2015.

Does DHL do Saturday deliveries in NL these days? I remember a couple of years ago they did not (when they missed delivery of my new iPhone on Friday and moved it to Monday (in the end I got it on Friday because it was just sitting 5 minutes from my house and I managed to arrange a pickup on Friday). Don't know the current situation though.

I regularly get parcels on Saturdays from DHL.

DHL Express could be a different story though ?
True, I think DHL Express also doesn't deliver on Saturdays. Keep in mind for a Saturday delivery, they'd need to keep their whole logistics chain working. If a normal package wouldn't depart on Friday evening from Seoul, there would ne no way to deliver it on Saturday. The whole costs add up I guess.

Also they probably use weekends for maintaining their vehicles and to fix backlogs that occured in the week. Otherwise the packages would pile up until eternity.

If you guys are switching from a 2013-2015 15 inch MBP Retina, the 16 will be perfect :)

I've been playing with it since Friday, it's beautiful, silent, great battery life (16' M1 Pro, 32Go RAM, 512 Go SSD).

You are waiting but the wait is worth it what ever the model you get :)
I wish you guys a happy unboxing for the weeks to come !

That trackpad looks so tiny compared to the 16" model. After 2 days I'm so used to the 14" now as if I never had anything else :D

Here we go!
I assume “AI” stands for Apple International?

Nice! Mine still says 'Left facility in Cologne' as last update, although UPS does estimate expected delivery for tomorrow afternoon. It doesn't show up in UPS My Choice though, I have to add the tracking number manually. Is there a specific method to get it to show up there?

The only method that I know of (besides adding it manually) is if the delivery address and name matches with the one you’ve registered + confirmed in UPS my choice.
For the confirmation of the Address UPS usually sends out a letter with a PIN code.

Also, my parcel still sits in cologne, but I expect it to move to my area with a very early flight Monday morning.

My infamous bad luck with hardware just struck - I noticed a dead pixel on my MacBook Pro 16" in the bottom right corner. ?‍♂️ Everything else is perfect, including the rest of the display (no blooming or "dirty screen effect"). Can hardly see it, but of course once you know it's there ...

The Apple Store website says that current orders will be shipped in "5 - 6 weeks" and the config I want (US keyboard) isn't available in stores for pickup, so unfortunately ordering a replacement would mean being without a notebook again for a month, because I think I'd have to return the current one within 2 weeks? And who knows what little flaw the new machine then has. :(

That sucks. I am in similar situation (well, my MacBook doesn't have any flaws), as I want to return my bas model 16" to get the version with the M1 Max.
So here is what I did: I called Apple and explained my situation. I explained, that I need the MacBook for work and being 1 month without wasn't really an option. So he was able to grant me two weeks of extra time to return the MacBook. This way I will only be without one for about a week.
Should work for you as well.

Sorry to hear that…
I’d say give apple a call and see what they can do for you in this situation…

What about keeping it, waiting until the situation clears next year when they are broadly available and then let Apple repair it based on warranty? Not sure though if one dead pixel is covered by the warranty ?
