Thinking of getting a MacBook. Here in the UK it says 2-3 weeks. Not sure if I want to wait. Anyone ordered recently able to share their experience?

I'm not sure if I should just drive to the nearest Apple store and see if they got any stock in. I don't want to upgrade anything. Just the 8GB/256GB model in either silver/grey.

Mine is a standard spec, 1.2/8gb/256gb model, and it'll be about 3 weeks from order to delivery in the U.K. See my previous post for exact details.

I seen your post but couldn't tell if you were from the UK or not. Thanks for replying! Not sure what to do. Has the money been taken from you when you placed the order or does it come out when they dispatch it?

I think they pre authorise the amount to your card but don't charge it until the status changes to 'preparing for shipment'.

I ordered my 1.2/512/SG on 7/7 and it's due to arrive on 22/7, so 14 days or so to the UK. It shipped a few days ago and I've been tracking the UPS site like a mad man. I think it may come early even though it's taking a convoluted route (Shanghai, Dubai, Cologne, hopefully next stop London!).

That seems pretty quick. Looks like the 1.3s take a little longer because they probably aren't coming of the lines already to be shipped to stores. So the 1.1 and 1.2 models are probably sometimes available to go straight to shipment when an order is made.

Good luck with the convoluted shipment route... Mine came via China, Korea, Kazakhstan, Poland, Germany then finally to Paris. Then it took a nice tour from one outer suburb warehouse to another before they finally decided it would be a good idea to save some fuel and actually send it to me..

I wish mine would arrive that quickly ;)

What I meant by due date is the actual estimated date once it shipped. My estimated date was originally 3-4 weeks, meaning 3-10 August. It shortened to 2-3 weeks a few days later (27-Jul to 3-Aug) and then ended up sooner again. You might get lucky!

Fingers crossed. I am not good at being patient!

My order has updated today to 'preparing for shipment' from 'processing order'. I don't know how long the preparation process takes, but I'm hoping it might be here by the end of next week.

Here in the UK it now says:

Dispatched:
  • 1-2 weeks
Last time I checked it was 2-3 weeks. Still haven't ordered mine yet.

I ordered mine yesterday and dispatched is 1-2 weeks. My orders says, delivery 7 August- 14 August here in Finland.

I've just had an email update to state that it has been dispatched.

However the estimated delivery date is 3rd August. I'm hoping it doesn't take that long. Does it really take 10 days to send a laptop from China to the U.K.? I can fly to China in 8 hours?

My one took 5 days. It was excruciating watching it stop everywhere enroute. It was in Cologne for early 24 hours.

You'll love it when you get it.

It has finally arrived. I'm over the moon. The keyboard does feel a little strange, but I like it.

However, it won't connect to my BT Home Hub unless I log in to the BT Fon network. Any ideas why?

i orderred a SG 1.2 on Thursday evening, it shipped Friday ! I'm in Ireland, projected delivery Friday 7th.

Availability must be improving.

That's great news, nice to have a short wait..! What does your tracking info say? It's possible that yours is just coming from stock already in inventory in the UK rather than having to go into production then shipping from China. I know over here (Paris) they've had stock in store of both the 1.1 and 1.2 models in most colours for a while now, but never the 1.3... In any case, you're gonna love it.. :)

It's still in Shanghai, China, I have Export scan as the last action on the tracker from UPS.

I thought about the 1.3, thought it might take way longer, kinda glad I went for the mid model now.

Hope I do love it, I ordered up and cancelled twice already, thought I should wait for a MBP with the upgraded chips, but I love the look of the MB......

Yep it looks like yours was one of the machines that are basically already going into boxes and ready to ship right away. You should get it next week I'd say, after what will probably be a fairly surreal trip across the far east it will make including a likely stopover in Borat land...

Hmm, the MBP and rMB are pretty different beasts especially if you had the 15 inch in mind. Quad core i7s are a totally different game, but the 13 inch MBP is less of a huge leap away from the Air/rMB in most ways. In any case, if very high-end performance wasn't what you needed then the advantage of the extreme portability of the rMB might be a better fit for you in the end. Generally I think if people know they need a 15 inch MBP for the quad core power, they already have eliminated the possibility of going for an ultralight machine. Hopefully that's the case with you!

My machine was born on the 27th July and arrived at my door on the 31st July. Pretty impressed by that, especially as I had chosen merge in transit which traditionally is slower.

Nice one! Just curious, did it go to Kazakhstan on its way to Sheffield? Seriously these days it looks like if you want to get a new laptop quickly, the place to live is Almaty...
