Question for the bandoholics: I have one of the original blue sport bands, but not sure if it's gen 1 or gen 2. It is the one in the bottom of the photos. The first photo was taken by a window, the second under a skylight and is more saturated. For reference, the bands above it in ascending order are:

Surf Blue
Capri Blue
Blue Horizon
Abyss Blue
Mallard Green

Gen 1 the one from the original Apple Watch release if I look closely. IIRC Bandbriete shows that gen 2 is a bit lighter whilst gen 1 is more sky blue and darker like the colored pencils

For some reason I still remember the pnemonic we came up with during the pandemic: blue2neon, not that a band can be too neon (give me all the forever chemicals 🍽️)

Gen 1 is darker than Gen 2.
o dang thanks for the correction that I mustn’t have put them backwards 😂 but indeed Bandbriete does show it like that. The poster earlier had the pictures in actual light a little different, so the True Tone display sometimes confused me too. Will update it cheers 👋

With Beats’ recent foray into accessories, I wonder whether we’ll see Beats-branded Apple Watch bands soon. Would be interesting to see whether it’ll also eventually replace the Nike partnership given that Apple is positioning Beats as a sport-adjacent brand.

Yeah let’s throw out the collab with the 80B company that our CEO is on the board of, genius

Nike Apple Watch bands exist because the collaboration makes sense, people run and do active things with a fitness oriented watch.

Beats cobranded bands would make sense because...?

Beats already makes iPhone cases, so I wouldn’t say it’s a stretch
Nike is a fashion accessory brand which aligns with being an accessory to the Watch.

Beats is an audio brand and just out of the blue made iPhone cases which really was a move made by Apple. They’re simply Apple cases with the Beats branding.

What kind of design do you have in mind that Beats can offer to the Apple Watch?

Apple doesn't need Nike.
Also, Nike doesn't need Apple.

And to your point, Beats doesn't need Apple either. They had nothing to do with each other until recently.
Apple and Beats are one of the same, so one doesn’t need the other. And you could argue that Beats is very much Apple’s sports-focused brand, with their marketing using high profile athletes like LeBron James, Shohei Ohtani, and Lionel Messi. In fact, the tagline for the Powerbeats Pro 2 is “built for athletes.” So it wouldn’t be out of place if they came out with bands designed for fitness.

There was an article by 9to5Mac or MacRumors (I can’t remember which) which said that marketing products under the Beats brand could be a way for Apple to continue selling their non-carbon neutral accessories while working towards their 2030 carbon neutrality goal.

You could but it’s not

Cool, yet here we are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They sell one pair of headphones for working out. They pay athletes for endorsements. It was started by two music industry people…

AirPods are waterproof and great for working out and Apple does tons of athlete endorsements and the original AirPods ad featured a skateboarder…
