Do you work for Briggs and Riley?

i second the mont blanc bag. if you got the cash, imagine how bad a$$ it would be. tooling around, being the casual dude in jeans and scruffy face, step out of your domestic hot rod and BAM! toss down your $1000 bag with $3000 of gadgets in it, all blase and like "yeh, that bag of stuff is worth more than some peoples' car" *snif*
what timepiece do you wear? that totally reveals your other face and the kind of person you are or want to be seen as.

I always carry a man bag for work. My wife just bought me a Ducti Utility Bag for my birthday yesterday:

Loving the strap :)

I must be one *picky* bastard.

I've had my MBP since Nov. 08 and still haven't found a bag I like, so I still just carry it in its foofbag in my hand.

I would prefer a messenger bag that is designed for the MBP, but at the same time designed for the MBP to be in it's sleeve--I don't want to put it in the bag without it still being in a sleeve.

I'm short as crap so I can't use a vertical messenger bag, it's gotta be horizontal.

Prefer black nylon/canvas--needs to be professional and I need to be able to carry a couple textbooks along (grad school).

I'd prefer the bag to stand up on its own via little metal feet.

I also don't want it too bulky.

No zippers.

I basically want a bag designed with the MBP in mind and padded but still designed to allow the MBP to be put in there in its sleeve.

Ideas???? I feel like I've looked at every possible bag on the market by every possible maker.

I have a Samsonite bag that I bought from Office Depot for school, fits all my stuff in it plus my MBP (when I need it).

i would really prefer to carry a backpack.. it will be very easy to use and easy to carry..

Going by the bags some of you guys pick out, I'm surprised you have such a fixation on how your laptop looks. xD

I bought a Brenthaven bag 7 years ago for my then new 17 inch Powerbook G4. I kept using it even after I got a 17 inch MBP two years ago. The Brenthaven bag was custom designed to fit 17 inch Mac laptops and is still being sold as the Prolite III. It is available at Amazon. Because it is made of nylon, it is relatively light weight and will hold an incredible amount of gear in addition to the computer itself. It has a built in sleeve with a separate velcro fastened top for the laptop. I have really enjoyed mine.

I use an Incase sleeve along with a waxed canvas messenger bag from Manhattan Portage. Very versatile setup, use the sleeve if I am making a day trip in the car and easy to pull out of the bag at the airport.

Manhattan Portage is hands down the best bag I have ever used.

Tumi. They're expensive but are well made and excellent. The one I have doesn't seem to be made anymore, but it holds a lot and is small. When I had my 17" MBP it fit perfectly even though the messenger I have is on the small side.

I use BumBackPack's medium-sized Hampton Hybrid all the time. I think it's great. It has a separate foam lined compartment for your laptop, plenty of space in the main compartment, plenty of pockets, and I can use it as a shoulder bag or ergonomic backpack. I wasn't sure about the orange lining in the main compartment, since I'm not a fan of the color, but it definitely helps me find stuff at the bottom of the bag.

Just got a Taipan Lift L from Booq for my 17" MBP... Nice, professional-looking, and travel-friendly.

Haha Prolene I am disappointed I thought for sure you would be carrying your machine around in an ACU Backpack ; )

Here is a question do men like to carry the messenger bags while women go for more of a purse look?

What have you guys seen? Im gonna be getting either a 13 in MBP/MBA and carrying it around a law school campus...

Thanks for any help!

My sugesstion is you get Tumi. It is more expensive, but the quality is fantastic. I'm particularly fond of the "flap" bags, i.e. something that looks like this.

You don't have to get that one of course, they have a number of flap bags. But you'll find that with the flap, the computer is well-protected yet you can expand the bag to fit some stuff if you need to.

Also, Tumi has lots of good little things. The cushioning is great, all the pockets and stuff are sewn really well and can take a lot of abuse. Also, my Tumi bag has this tight keyring holder/thingy in one of the zip pockets -- it's a great place to latch your keys when you're on a plane, because you know the keys aren't going anywhere, period.

Anyway, all my luggage is Tumi. At a minimum, I'd go to a Tumi store near you and get a feel for their stuff. I've had my current Tumi computer bag for like six years now, and I'm hard-pressed to find even a thread out of place. I put in a Macbook Pro, Nokia phone, Bloomberg reader card, and all the regular stuff.

If the Tumi store has a limited selection (as they sometimes do), order online.

I purchased the Booq Mamba Saddle Bag the other day (I'm from Australia, so I'm linking an Aussie website) - http://rushfaster.com.au/product.php?pProductID=BOQ-MSD-BLK

Fantastic bag, only thing I'm frustrated with is they reduced it from $150 to $100 AU sometime after I've bought it. Blergh!

It doesn't have a carry handle though, just a shoulder strap, which is slightly annoying, but I'm sure I'll get over that.

It holds quite a fair bit, and carries a 13" (with 'adapter pads') and 15" Unibody MBP.
