'Everyone' at Apple Apparently Calls Foldable 'iPhone Ultra'

Heres what i dont get...how can it be an Ultra if it has less features then the pro? It doesn't have faceId, built in Magsafe, a 3rd Telephoto Lense, Unfolded i highly doubt you will be able to use the apple pencil with it, (All of this is still currently rumored)....so How is this a Ultra when in theory you could just buy a Iphone 18 Pro/Pro Max and the new OLED Ipad Mini and get more functionality out of those just without the foldable feature.

It might even be cheeper to get those together then just the fold, and that way you have more functionality, just in two seperate devices.

Point is, i think the fold is a more realistic name choice, because the term ultra implies EVERYTHING when thats misleading.

I think EVENTUALLY it will be an ultra device once they add a 3rd camera, faceID, Magsafe and a form of apple pencil support, but thats 2-3 years down the road.

Also, price and durability play a crucial role here. If its 2500 dollars...and the Pro Max is 1400 and the Ipad OLED is 1000, your getting more for less with both devices, and if its not IP rated for dust and water (Like it wouldent survive a day at the beach)...then is it really Ultra?

Look i dont expect the damn thing to stop a bullet or be indestructible. Its still a foldable phone with trade offs, but calling it Ultra is just misleading to my OCD mind is all.

Touch id annoys me on my iPad Mini, I mainly paid the extra money for the iPad Pro for FaceID (and the better keyboard accessory). I would struggle to regress back to Touch ID for a 2000+ dollar phone, yet i can also understand the challenge because they cant really implement FaceID for both the internal and external screens. I have owned a Samsung Z Fold in the past, however I moved back to an iPhone Pro plus iPad Mini simply because overall that was preferable for me.

ME TOO....like thats what killed the mini for me, i love the form factor, its perfect, but its like no faceID, no 120HZ, its like common apple what are you doing. Give me a mini pro!

Another reason that I think this will be the name? It allows them to introduce an iPhone Duo Max in a couple years. One that’s bigger, maybe has the same triple camera as the pro, face ID, maybe it’s a little bit bulkier to allow for all of that…
I think it’s pretty obvious that if the fold is successful, Apple will absolutely expand the line to reach more niches and price points.
Samsung already has three lines of foldables, I would not be shocked to see Apple join them.

Touch id annoys me on my iPad Mini,

I much like Face ID, and dislike Touch ID intensely. I don't understand what is going on with this fold. If it's true it's touch ID, that's just crazy. I get the Touch ID with the Mini, as a cost cutting thing.

If anything, to me, this lends more credence to the idea that it will not be called the iPhone ultra.
Apple would absolutely not be throwing around and official marketing name internally.
Also, just within the last year, we have seen the MacBook Neo and iPhone Air, two names that were absolutely not expected.
People expected an iPhone 17 Air and a product simply called the MacBook, neither of those things happened.
Same with the 16e and 17e.

Apple’s prior naming conventions tells me that this product is going to have a name of its own that directly relates to its main feature over the other iPhones, in this case that it has two screens on it, one of which that unfolds into a tablet- like form factor.
That’s why I still think the most likely name is something like the “iPhone Duo” or even something just as simply on the nose as “iPhone Fold”.

The only products that Apple has used the term “Ultra” with is the Apple Watch, which is already targeted at the sports market, where the term “Ultra” is regularly found, and a SOC suffix, which is not a product, it’s a part of a product.

I was thinking iPhone Air Max because unfolded it will be very large or maximized, and thin.
